Israeli strikes begin as hostage deaths trigger protests

Israel’s first nationwide general strike began on Monday (September 2), following the discovery of the bodies of six Israeli hostages. Flights and hospital services were severely disrupted and banks were closed as Israel's biggest labor union launched industrial acrtion pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into agreeing to a mediated deal to secure the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. - REUTERS
