00:00And also some more bad news for the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump the latest popularity polls
00:07Appear to have closed the gap between Donald Trump and his political rival Kamala Harris
00:11So let's take a look at as to how the numbers snuck up at the moment
00:14Now according to the latest poll figures conducted over three days from the 23rd of August to the 25th
00:20Kamala Harris appears to be gaining popularity and momentum and
00:25Appears to be narrowing Donald Trump's a lead as far as issues of economy and
00:30Employment are concerned now 43% of the voters started with Donald Trump remembered
00:3643% of the Americans still think that Trump is a man who can sort out the American economy and unemployment issue
00:41While 40% of the Americans now prefer Kamala Harris
00:45The difference now stands at a marginal 3% as compared to a substantial 11% lead
00:51That the Republican leader had back in July
00:54However, these statistics do not take into consideration the latest political twist after independent candidate Robert F
01:01Kennedy jr. Suspended his presidential campaign and decided to endorse
01:05Donald Trump
01:07The Robert Kennedy jr. Has the backing of nearly about seven to eight percent of the registered American electorate
01:13Will be key in swing the political mandate with neither side establishing a clear lead in any of the pre-election surveys
01:21Now in terms of issues on the ballot the latest poll also reveals that economy remains the biggest concern for 26% of the voters
01:28Followed by 22% of the voters who picked political extremism and threats to democracy
01:34Before 13% of the registered voters immigration is in fact the most important issue this election season
01:41All
01:46Right now to give us more perspective on this we being joined by mr
01:48John a blank who's a former foreign policy adviser to President Don Joe Biden and he's joining us on
01:54This broadcast knows long. Thank you very much indeed, sir for joining us on this broadcast and beyond
01:59Let me in fact start off with with this legal trouble that the Republican candidate
02:05Donald Trump is into the indictment charge has been filed again in this time round
02:10He's being referred to as a political candidate rather than as a former president
02:14Do you think that's going to have any carbon impact in terms of how the American public of course perceives Donald Trump?
02:21Thank you for having me I think that almost all American voters have already made up their mind about Donald Trump
02:28They've seen what he did in his first term in office
02:32They've seen what he has tried to do in refusing to leave office. They've seen his two impeachments
02:38They've seen the evidence of his deep criminality including his convictions
02:43And I don't I don't think it's going to really change a whole lot of minds either way
02:47You know
02:48That's interesting because you say that the people have already made up their mind and Donald Trump supporters would turn around and say that this
02:54Is essentially a political witch hunt and this is something that Donald Trump will try
02:58Yeah, you know use a more to his advantage
03:00But let's also talk about these pre poll surveys which are now showing that Kamala Harris appears to be closing the gap
03:07With Donald Trump on issues of economy and unemployment
03:11The gap is not just three percent
03:13But do you think considering the baggage that Kamala Harris brings in as the current vice president?
03:18She can convince the American electorate that she can actually turn things around for the average American voter. I
03:26Think that's the key question. I think most Americans already know what they believe about Donald Trump
03:3340% will vote for him
03:34No matter what for somewhere in the 40s will vote for him
03:38No matter what and somewhere in the 40s will vote against him no matter what so it's really that
03:45relatively small group that are trying to decide what is Kamala Harris an acceptable alternative and
03:51I think that she has every reason to be optimistic because the poll numbers have been trending in the right direction
03:58but
03:59Let's be clear. This will be an incredibly narrow margin right up until Election Day
04:05No matter how it eventually turns out
04:07Now this part of time because you've also been a former foreign policy adviser to Joe Biden
04:12This is also going to be a big question that will be playing on the minds of a lot of the Democrats
04:16The foreign policy of Joe Biden which will be the legacy that Kamala Harris will be taking to the presidential elections
04:21How much do you think that'll weigh in on the minds of an average Democrat?
04:26The war in Ukraine the war in the Gaza Strip the disastrous pullout from Afghanistan all of these things and of course
04:32Something that will go down as the legacy of Joe one and by virtue of that of Kamala Harris
04:39Yes, American voters tend not to make their presidential choices on the basis of foreign policy as
04:46Someone who is passionately devoted to foreign policy. I kind of wish they would but the fact is they don't
04:52However, this is going to be a margin of error election
04:55So it is very much a real question
04:58How much is President Biden's policy on Gaza going to hurt Kamala Harris?
05:04and I think particularly in states like Michigan where there is a sector of the population Arab Americans
05:11Citizens who are Muslim who are progressive a whole lot of others
05:15Where this really could provide the margin of success or of or of loss?
05:21I think that's that's gonna be very significant. Thank you very much indeed. Mr. Jonah for joining us and getting us that perspective there
