Wang Yi and Jake Sullivan seek to stabilize China-U.S. relations in Beijing talks

China's top diplomat Wang Yi met with U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Tuesday in Beijing, as the world's two largest economies seek to maintain open channels of communication to "stabilize" bilateral relations.  Acknowledging the strained relationship over the past few years, Wang expressed hope that the new round of China-U.S. dialogue could promote bilateral ties in line with the "San Francisco vision." He emphasized the need to "overcome distractions, remove obstacles," and allow the relationship to develop in a "stable, healthy, and sustainable" manner.  Sullivan's three-day visit to the Chinese capital marks his fifth meeting with Wang.   Their last encounter was in January in Bangkok, Thailand, two months after Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden held talks in San Francisco, where the two leaders engaged in "candid" exchanges and outlined the future course of China-U.S. relations.  #China #US #ChinaUS #Chinanews

00:44Sullivan says the two sides need to look for common ground.

00:48We are working to ensure that competition does not veer into conflict and that we find

00:53ways to work together where our interests align.

00:56And all of that requires the kind of strategic and substantive and constructive dialogue

01:01that Director Wang was just referring to and to which we remain committed.

01:06China says ties between Beijing and Washington are still at a critical juncture or being

01:11Against this backdrop, the two sides are having an in-depth exchange of views on sensitive

01:16issues.

01:17The meeting took place just a few hours after Sullivan arrived in Beijing Tuesday afternoon.

01:22China calls Sullivan's visit an important step to implement the common understandings

01:26the two heads of state reached at their San Francisco meeting.

01:30And the two sides should abandon major country competition and pursue peaceful development.
