French President Macron refuses to name prime minister from left-wing coalition

While the talks were "fair, sincere, and useful," no practical solution was reached, said Macron. The government would probably fall apart upon the appointment of a left-wing prime minister, he said.

00:00French President Emmanuel Macron did not name a leftist prime minister and will hold a new

00:07round of consultations in an effort to form a new government.

00:12The left-wing New Popular Front Alliance won the most seats in July's snap legislative

00:17elections but not enough to govern.

00:21The party nominated Lucie Castaix as prime minister who says she is ready to govern and

00:26willing to compromise to get things done.

00:29We are here to remind the president the importance of respecting the election results and to

00:35get the country out of the paralysis in which it is plunged.

00:40We have come to propose a solution of stability.

00:43But far-right leaders that met with Macron on Monday said the party would block a prime

00:48ministerial candidate from the left-wing alliance.

00:52Our position remains unchanged compared to the one we expressed in the legislative elections.

00:58The New Popular Front, in its program, in its movements and in the personalities that

01:03it embodies, represents today a danger for the public order, for civil peace and of course

01:09for the country's economic life.

01:10Marine Le Pen called for an exception for the National Assembly to be convened before

01:15a prime minister is appointed.

01:19The New Popular Front said they would not partake new consultations with Macron unless

01:24it was to discuss Castaix's nomination.
