Torque is a measure of the effectiveness of a force acting on an object to rotate that object about a certain axis. If torque is 0, it means the force does not cause an object to rotate.

00:01Here is the thin stick.

00:05One end of the thin stick was attached to the shaft.

00:12An external force is applied to one end of the other perpendicularly.

00:18This external force is in the form of a push by the palm of the hand.

00:23The thin stick does not move translationally,

00:26but the stick rotates around the axis with a certain acceleration.

00:37Now, the external force hits the stick from bottom right to top left.

00:42The magnitude of the external force is still the same.

00:45The only difference is the direction.

00:49If previously the external force formed an angle of 90 degrees,

00:53now the external force forms an angle of 45 degrees,

00:56or 135 degrees, depending on how we measure the angle.

01:04The stick also rotates around the axis,

01:06but with a lower acceleration compared to the previous acceleration.

01:19Next, an external force hits the stick towards the left.

01:24This time the external force forms an angle of 0 degrees,

01:27or 180 degrees, depending on how we measure it.

01:34It turns out the stick doesn't move at all.

01:37The stick doesn't rotate, the stick doesn't move translationally either.

01:49Based on these three conditions, the same external force

01:52applied to the same object can produce different effects.

01:57Objects rotate with varying angular acceleration.
