Newcastle Mela festival celebrates anniversary

00:10Newcastle Mela, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024, is sure to be a hit

00:17After the recent riots up and down the country, including in Sunderland and Hartlepool, the

00:20Mela's organisers in alignment with local police are making sure this year's is the

00:24best yet, and that it celebrates the mix of cultures we have in the region.

00:28The free festival sees crowds of over 40,000 attend each year, and runs across the bank

00:33holiday weekend.

00:34It promises fun for all the family, whatever your age, starting with Mela in the City at

00:38Grey's Monument on Saturday the 24th, then the Mela kicks into action in Exhibition Park

00:43on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

00:45There will also be opportunities to experience arts and crafts, such as henna workshops and

00:48stilt walkers.

00:50Given recent national events, the Mela hopes to bring the community together for some family

00:54fun, and in its 30th year, it promises to be one not to miss.
