Transcript
00:00Bangladesh will be looking forward to this session and try and score and get rid of that 132 as quick as possible
00:06They are in a good position, but that was yesterday. So you don't have to look too much in the past
00:12They need to start well here
00:13They need to understand that this test can go in any direction if Bangladesh lose early wickets
00:19Then Pakistan can come back into this test when at the moment well placed at 3 and 16 for 5
00:25Two well-set batters, but that was as I said earlier that was yesterday
00:29So they have to start all over again, and they need to ensure that they just do not
00:35Lose a wicket early on if they get get their eye in and we know what mushfiqur Rahim and little Kumadas can do with the bat
00:42Still it's very good batting surface. They need to realize the fact that yes get set one more time and just keep on batting
00:50Yeah, when you look at the progress and the run flow through the day yesterday for Bangladesh
00:55They almost started off in first gear, but then come third session and they were in top gear
00:59But they were scoring at what 12 runs in 12 overs
01:02But then you come into the last session and it's just really good in gradual increase
01:07Yeah, absolutely and credit to shut man the the man at the top order
01:10He lost his partner early didn't he and it took a lot of courage a lot of skill
01:14To weather the storm the Pakistan storm they came hard they bowled they bowled well, didn't they in in patches?
01:20And I think he's the key man
01:22He was the one who set the platform and a lot of people might have criticized
01:26Bangladesh early saying are they not batting quick enough modern-day scoring etc, but actually look at the end of the day
01:32That's what matters and they got to 300 and Pakistan haven't done
01:35Bangladesh haven't done that very often
01:37So a lot of credit to him and you know good old-fashioned batting get through the new ball and on you go
01:43Yeah
01:43Talk about the new ball when the second new ball came in Lytton Das was the right man because he has opened for Bangladesh
01:49So he knows how to tackle that and how good was he the other day?
01:52Well, I remember that particular over from Naseem Shah when he took him on and he was a really aggressive
01:59Yeah, he's a classic. That's the shot that I was talking about. He smashed 18 runs in that over that went
02:06One bounce and went out of the ground
02:08So what what does it show it shows that he is he's very good on picking up the length very quickly
02:14He's been scoring runs. He's been leading scoring scorer for Bangladesh last year or so and
02:21When you do get set you don't want to lose that opportunity because as I said earlier, this is a very good surface for batting
02:27I'm not too sure what's gonna happen of and later later in the day because
02:33You would want to go and play
02:35Normal natural cricket and a point taken from Nick is that
02:40You need to balance it out
02:42If you look at how aggressive Lytton was later in the day, but look at how well prepared was Mushfiq Rahim
02:48Mr. Dependable because Bangladesh team depends on him and it took his time
02:53So he played that old-fashioned innings of just grinding it out and making sure you he blocks one
02:58And really good to see good mix of caution with aggression
03:02You mentioned how the pitch is going to play and what's in store and day four
03:05Let's have a closer look with Basit Khan what the pitch is like
03:10Yesterday we saw just five wickets were taken so it still is a very good batting surface. You look at the surface is dry
03:17It's not much to report in terms of deterioration
03:20There is maybe a couple of cracks just opening up slightly
03:24But the only thing that'll come into play is maybe the ball keeping low
03:28Slightly a lot of discussions on how the fast bowlers have bowled on this pitch
03:32We don't want to talk about spinners how they want to be effective how they can be effective on this pitch
03:39First example is South Shaquille getting stumped
03:41It's medias and just slowing it up and getting the ball to grip and turn
03:46Slightly more and then sake sake ball ways both slowly
03:49But when sake bowls slowly, he'll get more purchase out of this surface, which is interesting
03:55Normally associate in the subcontinent the ball you started in as a spinner
04:00But if you bowl slower
04:02You'll get a little more purchase or something for the spinners to think about and something may be going forward in the test match
04:09With their speeds adjusting their speeds and trying to maybe flight it up and slow it up slightly
04:16Alright, we'll talk more about what the pitch can do with our guests and also something very special lined up left handers against bowlers
04:23Coming round and over the wicket how to tackle that all on the other side of the break
04:27Welcome back once again to the pitch side studio time for us to head to the master class
04:30Amit Sohail will tell us more how to tackle
04:32Bowlers coming over and round the wicket cause quite a few wickets fell when bowlers came around and hit the stumps
04:41What we saw dismissals of five left handers one of Pakistan four of Bangladesh
04:46So I thought why not pull in Pakistan's elegant top quality left-handed opener because that was the problem
04:52I got Amit Sohail alongside. Amit we saw yesterday from first of all round the wicket and over the wicket
04:58Let's talk about over the wicket first
04:59We saw two similar dismissals Zakir Hassan and Saim Ayub chasing deliveries for slightly fuller pitch and wider outside the off stump
05:07Where do you think they faltered there?
05:10Look Arooj
05:12The very reason this back and across movement came into being to negate that
05:18You know when you when you're batting
05:21against somebody if a right-handed batsman is playing against a left arm bowler bowling over the stumps or
05:27right arm fast bowler bowling
05:29To a left-hand batsman over the stumps that back and across movement becomes very important, right?
05:36So let's do something you got batting. Okay, a lot of aspiring cricketers and they can learn from the best
05:41Why don't you show us what they could have done better?
05:44The reason why I emphasize on back and across movement it it helps you to play the ball down the track
05:51Yeah, rather than playing through covers with an angled bat
05:55You know, I'll show you how how to do it when when you actually moving back and across your shoulder is
06:02pointed
06:03towards mid-on
06:06Either mid-on or in between the umpire and mid-on that helps you to get into the line and play the ball
06:13Straight rather than not moving back and across and trying to play the ball
06:19With this back lift and this foot movement and what happens with this one is without moving back and across
06:26when you lift the bat it goes inwards and
06:29When you bring it down
06:32open face and
06:34you expose yourself to
06:36make the ball towards the slips or
06:39The wicket keeper so it's very important for batters
06:42When they see the ball is seeming about and the bowlers are trying to angle the ball away
06:47You have to move back and across and then get into line play straight brilliant. I think
06:53Nicely summed up in terms of what they could have done and what the learnings would be, right?
06:58Let's move across to around the wicket
07:00We saw Khurram Shahzad bowl to absolute Jaffers awful length
07:03Which a little bit off the surface and then Muhammad Ali clean up Shazman on 93 similar dismissals around the wicket with that angle
07:11What do you have to say about those?
07:12It's a similar kind of a thing, you know, you don't have to move back and across
07:16What you need to do is once the bowler is bowling around the stumps when you take your setup
07:22You know when you're looking the bowler coming from that side
07:25You actually close your shoulder your trail shoulder goes towards the wicket keeper or maybe
07:31Fine leg what happens from there is when you lift the ball a bat
07:35It goes towards leg slip and from there when you bring the bat down
07:41The arc is totally different and that will
07:46Leave a gap between bat and pad
07:49So it's highly imperative for the batters when they are looking to face
07:53Against the right arm fast bowler bowling from around the stumps. You have to make sure in your setup
08:00When the ball is about to be delivered you keep your front shoulder
08:04If not in between mid on or the umpire you have to keep it
08:11Parallel to the umpires position and from there when you lift the bat
08:15You lift the bat towards the slips and from there when you bring it down. There is no gap
08:22Well, it couldn't have been done better
08:24Classical left-hander Amir soil showing us exactly what they could have done. I hope you've enjoyed this one
08:31Yeah, it's just so amazing how to tackle different kind of bowlers and they come in especially the thinking smart ones
08:36You're using the crease and going wide and trying to create angles against you
08:40Yeah
08:41I think the biggest question for Pakistan this morning in terms of bowling when we think about how they
08:46Executed their plans is how they're going to win the game
08:48I mean, we're here on the end of day three early morning day four and all eyes have got to be on victories
08:53I don't think anyone wants to see these boring draws anymore, you know 450 plays 450 and it ends in a draw
08:59I think one of the things we want to look at is how can we win the game Pakistan will be thinking how can they
09:03take early wickets and
09:05One of the ways they can do that is obviously to try and get those Bangladesh batsmen out very quickly this morning
09:10But you know that for me would be a thinking point from both teams
09:15Well, I'll take it from where what way he's leaving. I mean your Bangladesh captain, would you?
09:20Cover the deficit and declare. No, I would not why not because of the fact that the
09:28Bangladeshi if I was a captain, I would want them to bet as many I mean as much as possible
09:34You spoke about this is the world test championship Nick and points do count drawers don't help though
09:39Do they it adds it adds few points to your team?
09:42Yes, fine
09:42But you don't want to take your chances when you think that you can go and win matches and in the end you lose them
09:49Match and you give away 12 points to the opposition
09:52so I think you still a lot of cricket to be played because these there are two days left here and if you want to
09:57bat
09:58Because you never know because early on first I was important if you lose one wicket then you get bowled out
10:03So you don't know you don't want to think about declaration you think of you. We're telling I'll be telling my boys
10:08Okay, go and get get set and I want to see both mushriku Rahim and little kumadas picking up a hand
10:13I'm gonna put a spanner in the works here
10:15Bangladesh declare 50 runs behind and say over to you Pakistan. What are you gonna do? Yeah, that's what if you're looking for a result
10:23I mean that goes for any team who was playing out there time for us to take a short break
10:27We'll come back and settle this matter. Don't go away. Welcome back. Once again to the pitch side studio quick
10:31Look at the bowling and yeah, it's been hard work. Not just for Pakistan bowlers also for Bangladesh
10:36They've been bending their backs trying to get wickets to over here for four inches
10:41Really well and a wicket apiece for a Nassim Shah Muhammad Ali and time are you so
10:48When you look at Pakistan's bowling, yes, of course when we saw the third session, especially after it seemed like they were tired legs out there
10:55Yeah
10:55and I don't take anything away from Bangladesh the way they better especially little kumadas because he understood the fact that this pitch is
11:02What better and better and especially in that over when he smashed 18 runs of Nassim Shah, but yes
11:08That's the reason why
11:10We had already discussed before the start of a test match that whether Pakistan got it wrong in terms of team selection
11:17Why didn't they pick up a front line?
11:21Spinner, so I mean there will be I mean look at it. So hot and humid. We've been sitting and it's sweltering
11:27It is too hot and too humid. So you got to give a break to the
11:31Especially the seamers because it's a long run the bending their back. It's hard work really hard, especially in the Sun
11:36That's the reason why you feel that a spinner can just take the load off the shoulders of seam bowlers. It's hard work, but
11:44Force the front line Nassim us you got to make sure that they don't bowl longer spells
11:48I think it's important also maybe four five six over if somebody gets into a good rhythm
11:52Maybe give him an extra but not more than four or five. Otherwise, you know, they'll start feeling really tired
11:59So Nick, I mean Pakistan is on the receiving end at the moment
12:02They don't have a choice unless Bangladesh declares or not. That's irrelevant
12:05How would you or what would you tell your bowlers now early this morning on day four?
12:09Take early wickets. I think there's room for improvement. I think if we've been very honest
12:13I think Pakistan did a good job, but I think there's room for improvement in terms of that added sharpness
12:18So he not quite at his best. I think some of the other bowlers Karim Shahzada thought was excellent
12:24But I think for them it'll be a real practice on how well can we start here?
12:28How much pressure can we apply to lit and dust his defense, you know, we didn't see that really challenged yesterday
12:34He was allowed to get off strike. He was allowed to score it at will
12:37So I think a really important hour that first hour is going to be absolutely key this morning for both teams
12:43But as I said earlier, I think neither team benefits from a draw at the end of this game
12:47I think that
12:48They've got to start learning how to win and I think Pakistan need to address the fact that they haven't won a test at home
12:53In three years. Yeah, why is that? So if it's if it's because they don't have a world-class spinner
12:58Why is a world-class spinner not playing? Yeah, there's Jason Gillispie now as an important name in that camp
13:04And the chat he had last evening after the close of play with the bowlers
13:08I mean, of course the Australian mindset here go for the kill and at the same time he would be understanding
13:14How's the situation is you can't really hard ground the bowlers who've already spent like what five six hours and I think a little bit
13:20more positive
13:22Thinking in terms of how to pick a wickets here. I reckon the cracks that we saw yesterday has gone a little bit more bigger
13:30Ball on the cracks and see what the ball does great. Thank you gentlemen
13:34It's time for action on day four here between Pakistan and Bangladesh
13:38I'm sure it's going to be an exciting day of test cricket. Enjoy it
