'Avoid them': How men are fleeing Ukrainian army conscription

Two men in Ukraine's western region of Uzhhorod spoke to Euronews about why they are fleeing conscription from the country's army — and how they are doing it.

00:00Every day the number of graves in the park next to the Calvary Cemetery in Ushorod, Western Ukraine, grows.

00:08This place has become the memorial site for recent fallen fighters of Transcarpathia.

00:13Roughly 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, according to US estimates.

00:2143-year-old Igor was buried here 10 days ago in the Ushorod Cemetery.

00:26His remains are still standing in the grave.

00:30In recent years, almost every day there has been a funeral.

00:34The only crime of the hidden soldier-bound men is that they do not want to be buried here.
