00:00Last week, I announced that I was convening an emergency committee
00:05under the International Health Regulations
00:08to evaluate the upsurge of MPOCs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
00:14and other countries in Africa.
00:17Today, the emergency committee met and advised me that, in its view,
00:24the situation constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.
00:29The detection and rapid spread of a new clade of MPOCs in eastern DRC,
00:35its detection in neighbouring countries that had not previously reported MPOCs
00:40and the potential for further spread within Africa and beyond is very worrying.
00:46It is clear that a coordinated international response is essential
00:50to stop these outbreaks and save lives.
