00:00The Department of Labor and Employment has intensified its response to the cases of child labor in the country.
00:06With the help of Canada and the International Labor Organization, that's what Noel Talacay reported.
00:11Anyone who will employ a child in a dangerous and difficult job will be subject to the law.
00:21This is what the Labor and Employment Department is planning for the public.
00:26The DOLE has reached an agreement with the Government of Canada and the International Labor Organization, or ILO,
00:34to strengthen the fight against child labor in the country.
00:38The partnership with the ILO and Canada is important because they have a program that is directed,
00:50that will reduce, if not totally eliminate, the existence of child labor.
00:55According to the 2019 National Baseline Survey of Child Labor by the Philippine Statistic Authority, or PSA,
01:035 out of 10 youths, aged 5 to 17 years old, are victims of child labor.
01:11This is equivalent to 2.1 million.
01:14That's why the DOLE's goal is to reduce the number, if not completely eliminate it.
01:21Because there are still cases and we need to continue addressing the issue of child labor.
01:29One of the orders of President Ferdinand Marquez Jr. is to address child labor in the country.
01:35That's why the fight against child labor is included in the Labor and Employment Plan 2023 to 2028.
01:44At present, the administration has given high priority to the elimination of child labor and respect for freedom of association.
01:53This is far reaching for the work environment, recognizing social justice, respect for human and fundamental principles of the rights of work,
02:07and the importance of having a sustainable growth where no one will be left behind.
02:15According to the National Council Against Child Labor,
02:18it is led by the DOLE, supported by the DSWD, DOJ, DepEd, DOH, PNP, and NBI.
02:27There is a hotline, 1349, where the DOLE can call if there is a case of child labor.
02:37In order to meet the Sustainable Development Goal or SDG of the United Nations,
02:42the elimination of child labor is important.
02:45That's why 7 out of 17 SDGs are in favor of the elimination of child labor.
