00:00Hi friends! Today we will practice sentences based on various types of present tense. So

00:09let's start. In the last section, we learned about the

00:14present tense and its types. Let's recapitulate it.

00:20The present tense is used to describe an action or situation that is happening at the moment.

00:28We also learned that present tense is further divided into four types.

00:34Simple present tense or present indefinite tense.

00:40Present progressive or continuous tense. Present perfect tense and present perfect

00:48progressive tense. Now, let's revise the usage of simple present

00:55tense. We use simple present tense to describe facts

01:00and habits. For instance, the moon gets its light from

01:04sun. We use the simple present tense to describe

01:09scheduled events. The train leaves at 5 o'clock.

01:13We also use simple present tense to make your listener or reader feel more engaged with

01:19the story. For example, On a spring morning, Jack goes for a walk

01:26in the garden and sees beautiful flowers blooming with vibrant colors and fragrance there.

01:33So this is simple present tense. Now here is the rule for forming the sentence

01:40in simple present tense. Subject plus first form of the verb plus

01:47S or ES plus object. Rhea writes a letter. Here Rhea is the subject.

01:57Write is the first form of the verb write and we have added S to write because the subject

02:05is singular and then we have the object letter. Now let's revise present progressive tense

02:13or continuous tense. The present progressive tense is used for

02:19an ongoing action in the present. I am going. Here the action of going is still

02:28in progress. Now here is the rule for forming a present

02:33progressive tense. Subject plus is M or R plus the first form

02:40of the verb with ING and then the object. Rhea is writing a letter. Here Rhea is the

02:49subject. Is is the helping verb because the subject is singular and then is the first

02:57form of the verb write with ING to show that the action is still in progress and letter

03:05is the object. Now let's revise present perfect tense.

03:13Present perfect tense is used to describe an action that began in the past and has finished

03:19by the time of speaking. I have watched the movie. Here the person

03:26started watching the movie in the past which is finished just by the time of speaking the

03:31sentence. And here is the rule to form a sentence in

03:36present perfect tense. Subject plus has or have plus third form of

03:43the verb plus object. Rhea has written a letter. Here Rhea is the

03:50subject. Has is the helping verb because our subject is singular. Written is the third

03:58form of the verb and letter is the object. Now let's learn about the present perfect

04:06progressive tense. Present perfect progressive tense is used

04:13for depicting a continuous activity that began in the past and continues into the present.

04:21For example, Gardener has been growing plants in the garden since morning.

04:28Here gardener has started growing plants in the morning and is still continuing to do

04:34that or the action is still in progress. And here we have the rule for forming a sentence

04:42in present perfect progressive tense. Subject plus has or have plus being plus the first

04:52form of the verb with ing and then the object. Rhea has been writing a letter since last

05:0115 minutes. Here Rhea is the subject which is singular.

05:08So we have used has as a helping verb along with being and we have used writing to show

05:15a continuous action which is the first form of write along with ing. Letter is the object.

05:25Now this sentence means that Rhea started writing a letter in the past 15 minutes ago

05:32and is still writing. So this is present perfect progressive tense.

05:40Now let us try to look at some examples and identify the types of present tense.

05:47Sam is drinking milk. Now can you tell me what type of tense is

05:53used in this sentence? In this sentence the action of drinking is

05:59going on in the present. The helping verb is is used for present tense.

06:07And the first form of the verb along with ing is used to show a progressive action.

06:14So it is present progressive tense. Here we have another sentence.

06:20He plays football and then he goes home. In this sentence we are showing a habitual

06:27action. And first form of the verb play and go is

06:32used along with s or es. So it is a simple present tense.

06:40Here we have next example. He has won 5 matches so far.

06:48Can you tell me what type of tense is used in this sentence?

06:53The given sentence is in present perfect tense as the third form of the verb when

06:59along with the verb has is used. And also this sentence tells us about something

07:06that started in the past and has just finished by the time of speaking.

07:12So it is present perfect tense. Here we have another example.

07:18He has been living here since two years. What type of tense is this?

07:26This sentence tells us about something that started in the past and is still progressive

07:32or still continues. So it is present perfect progressive tense.

07:39And you can see we have used has along with been and also first form of the verb live

07:47along with ing. Here we have another sentence.

07:52She laughs in the classroom. What type of tense is this?

07:59Simple present tense. We are expressing a habitual action which are

08:04expressed using present tense. And we use first form of the verb along with

08:10s. So here we have first form of the laugh along

08:16with s. Now let's classify some sentences in a quick

08:22fashion. Monica is walking to catch the bus.

08:28Present progressive tense. He has served his country.

08:34Present perfect tense. The girls have been preparing for the guests.

08:41Present progressive tense. The hen lay eggs in the basket.

08:47Simple present tense. The crow is sitting on the branch of the tree.

08:54Present progressive tense. The girls have prepared food for the guests.

09:01Present perfect tense. Tony has been doing his homework since an

09:05hour. Present perfect progressive tense.

09:10Harry is watching a movie. Present progressive tense.

09:16I go to school by bus. Present indefinite tense or simple present

09:22tense. The nurse looks after the patients.

09:28Present indefinite tense or simple present tense.

09:33He has been reading comics since evening. Present progressive tense.

09:40Rivers originate from mountains. Present indefinite tense or simple present

09:47tense. Tom is jumping into the pool.

09:52Present progressive tense. The teacher has been teaching English since

09:56an hour. Present perfect progressive tense.

10:01John has invited the guests. Present perfect tense.
