Fire service provides update on "significant" blaze

00:00At approximately half past one this morning, we were made aware of a large fire at a residential

00:07property, Salters Lane in Faversham.

00:10We attended and at the height of the fire, we had ten fire engines, a height vehicle

00:17and various other support vehicles at the scene that also included our volunteer response

00:23team who were there supporting local residents from the impact of the fire.

00:28I would estimate between 50 and 60 firefighters were there at the height of the fire, yes.

00:34We are looking to investigate the cause of the fire and that will take the majority of

00:39the day.

00:40Those investigations are just beginning, so we would like to ask people in the local area

00:46to avoid the area wherever possible.

00:48The Canterbury Road is affected in Faversham, so although it's open, it is limited access.

00:57I can't confirm any casualty numbers or details at the moment, just to say that it was a large

01:03residential building that was affected by the fire and it was a significant fire.
