PM Anwar: My comments on ringgit's performance misinterpreted

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stated that his recent comments regarding the ringgit have been misunderstood.  Speaking to reporters after launching the Guidelines on the Management and Governance of Federal Statutory Bodies on Friday (Aug 9), Anwar clarified that his earlier remarks referred to the ringgit's status as the highest-performing currency in Asia.   The Prime Minister urged the public to listen to his speech in its entirety before drawing any conclusions. 00:17Some people didn't understand Malay, so they wrote it in English.

00:24They said that the Prime Minister gave a wrong analysis because the RMB is not the strongest currency in Asia.

00:35I watched the video yesterday. I said that it was the highest increase in Asia.

00:41That's why in Malaysia, Malay, Chinese, Indian, Dayak, and Kadazan must speak Malay fluently.

00:50They don't want to be like this.

00:53So I hope that Malaysia can correct this.

00:57In my speech, I said that the increase is the highest in Asia.

01:06And that's a fact.

01:08The second thing I said was that the RMB is the strongest in Asia.

01:26It's not that the RMB is stronger than the Yen.

01:30That's all.

01:31So if they want to say something, they can. But at least it's a positive statement.
