00:00Well, some heartbreaking news coming in from Paris this morning, Indian wrestler Vinesh
00:17Phogat has been disqualified from the gold medal match this morning at the Paris Olympics.
00:24She was competing in the 50kg freestyle category and according to a statement that has been
00:29put out by the Indian Olympic Association, the athlete weighed a few grams over the permissible
00:34limit.
00:35Now the rules say that athletes that are competing in a certain weight category must remain in
00:41that weight category for the two days of the competition.
00:44Unfortunately for Phogat, that was not the case.
00:47This morning when she was weighed, she weighed a few grams over the permissible limit.
00:52Well, in light of this, of course, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has also
00:58put out a tweet, consoled the athlete, he's said that, you know, she must not lose hope
01:04and that India's hopes, of course, are riding on her and that she must come back stronger.
01:10But other than that, reports, news agencies, in fact, from India are also reporting that
01:16the Prime Minister has spoken to the President of the Indian Olympic Association, P T Usha,
01:22and has said that whatever it is that can be done to make Phogat's case stronger must
01:27be done.
01:29The Prime Minister has also inquired about any additional steps that can be taken, any
01:33sort of remedies, you know, that can be filed for, to let Vinesh Phogat compete in this
01:40final.
01:41But unfortunately, as things look right now, it seems that Vinesh Phogat is not going to
01:45be able to compete in the final gold match, which was slated for today evening around
01:517.53 Paris time.
01:54She's been disqualified.
01:55Unfortunately, it seems that she's not going to be able to make the cut for that.
01:57She's not going to be able to compete in that.
01:59It's clear, however, that this is one of the most stunning upsets for India at the Olympics
02:05so far.
02:06The three-time Olympian, of course, had qualified some very, very intense matches.
02:13As of yesterday, she had defeated the reigning world champion Japan's Yui Sasaki with a 3-2
02:19decision.
02:20And then she had gone on to beat Ukraine's Oksana Livach by 7-5 and Cuba's Yuzneliz
02:27Guzman-Lopez by 5-0 before reaching the final.
02:32Lots of hopes, lots of dreams were riding on Vinesh Phogat's game today.
02:37But as things stand, she may not be able to compete after all.
02:40She's been disqualified this morning after her weight was found to be a few grams over
02:46that 50kg mark, which is what athletes are permissible to compete with in this category.
02:56As far as we know, since Phogat is not going to be competing, since she's been disqualified,
03:01she's going to rank last.
03:03Disqualified athletes at the Olympics are not given any rank.
03:07They automatically fall to the last rank.
03:10And that's going to be the case for Vinesh Phogat as things stand right now.
