Britain in Bloom floral judges enjoy a 'wonderful' walkabout of Saundersfoot

The seaside village of Saundersfoot was delighted to welcome ‘Britain in Bloom’ judges for a walkabout after being selected as a finalist for the annual contest organised by the Royal Horticultural Society in its 60th anniversary year.
“We were delighted to welcome RHS Judges Roger Burnett and Ian Beaney to Saundersfoot on Tuesday, July 30, to show them our village as part of this year's Britain in Bloom Finals,” said Julie Davies from Saundersfoot in Bloom.
“We only had an hour and a half to show them as much as we could to show off the village, and it wasn't easy to fit it all in!”
Judges saw flowers, planters, and also chatted with volunteer James who has been busy as the village’s bollard-painter-extraordinaire, as well as painting lamp posts, BT boxes with pictures depicting Tenby RNLI’s Haydn Miller lifeboat.
They were shown the 2 Minute Beach Clean board, Olympic rings made of beach plastic, the Sensory Garden, Book Boat, The Strand, Welcome Centre, Ecoast recycling shop and the Keep Wales Tidy litter pick hub.
Ross from Saunderfoot Harbour was on hand to show and talk to judges about the decking events area, crabbing area, and they saw the 60 Friendship Tubs made up to mark Britain in Bloom's 60th birthday year and the Lonely Tree from the deck of the Coastal Schooner all while serenaded by the fabulous Côr y Môr choir in the Sailing Club in their first ever public performance!
“We left the village to show a couple of private gardens then ended the tour up at Saundersfoot Bay Leisure Park who after showing the judges around, provided coffees and teas to go with daffodil shaped welshcakes from Mam-Gu Bakery on the harbour and the judges were able to relax and chat with Saundersfoot in Bloom members, Nicola Cleevely, Chair of Saundersfoot Community Council and county councillor Chris Williams,” continued Julie.
“It went by in a blur but it was a wonderful day!
“A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in our 2023/24 programme, just some patience needed now as results aren't announced until mid October!”
