Should Wales stand alone at the Olympics?

We ask the people of Newport whether they’d like to see Wales enter separately to team GB in the future.

00:00I felt sorry for that poor Welsh boy, he got a puncture in his tyre and he missed the medal

00:11by so long, sad that one.

00:15Mainly track events really, I mean I watched a bit of the football but as soon as I noticed

00:19that there was a bit of argy-bargy going on with the team, plus the Olympic football is

00:24a different kind of level isn't it, plus the Euros are on as well so it kind of saturated

00:29a bit from football around, but mainly track I feel, I used to be a long jumper myself

00:34so yeah.

00:35I always watch all sports, yeah.

00:38What events are you looking forward to the Olympics most?

00:40Athletics mainly, yeah.

00:43Long jump, high jump, cycling.

00:50Oh I like the running you know, and then I like the gymnastics, I like most things.

00:59I'm a widow now so I like going there, it's nice in the evenings, my husband, he's dead

01:05now, my God he wouldn't be away from the television, he's very sporty himself.

01:10I like the boxing, you know I watch the boxing, I watched that as well the other day.

01:15But aside from all the events, we wanted to know what people would think of Wales going

01:18it alone on the world's biggest stage.

01:21I saw it was a contest, it's a difficult thing to talk about I mean because like I think

01:27all nationalities will be represented but Wales in particular seem to get underrepresented

01:32in sort of the Commonwealth and the Olympics just purely because they're incorporated

01:35in the GP teams aren't they, so yeah, it'll be good to see, it'll be good to see.

01:39I don't mind any of them actually, to be honest, yeah, I'm not biased or anything like that

01:45I'd like to see the Olympics, I think it'll be a bit of an exciting fact, yeah.

01:50Yeah, Wales, because there's a lot of good sportsmen in Wales right, you know, so it'd

01:56be nice if they do that right.
