00:00Back live in New York, I'm Brent Musburger, and Irv and I were just talking about what
00:06the loss of Kenny Houston means to the Washington Redskins.
00:09A safety man turned the wrong way, and Dickey burned him for the Packers' last touchdown.
00:14Quickly to the board, a lot of surprises this afternoon.
00:17Tampa Bay is insisting that Chicago get back in the hunt.
00:20Doug Williams has thrown three interceptions, and Chicago leads Tampa Bay 14-0 in the second.
00:26Philadelphia, apparently going to be in the playoffs as of sunset tonight.
00:29All they need is a win.
00:30It's been easy so far, 24-0 over Detroit.
00:33Green Bay and Washington, the game you're watching, and now the Redskins desperately
00:37need a win.
00:38They must come back in the second half of this one.
00:40The New York Jets are ahead of Baltimore, 13-3 is the count in that game.
00:44Todd, three yards to Barkham, and Dave Jacobs, two field goals for Walt Michaels, 28-27 yards.
00:50It was easy for Pittsburgh.
00:52They ran up a 24-0 count.
00:54Back then came Cincinnati, 29-yard pass, Anderson to Isaac Curtis, and Isaac Curtis
00:59is well now for the Bengals, 7-3 in the cold in Buffalo.
01:03The Bills, on a 50-yard interception by Steve Freeman, lead the Broncos, and the Broncos
01:08need that victory as they pursue San Diego.
01:10Tough game here in the snow in Cleveland, tied at 7.
01:13Campbell, from 11 yards out for the Oilers, siped 42 yards to Mike Pruitt, the Browns'
01:17touchdown.
01:18San Francisco and St. Louis are scoreless.
01:20The Cardinals without their coach, who was fired earlier this week, Bud Wilkinson, and
01:23Kansas City lead Seattle, 7-0, 28 yards, Fuller to J.T. Smith.
01:28Let's show you some highlights now.
01:29The Tampa Bay kicking game, four kicks blocked last week against Minnesota, not any better
01:34on this Sunday afternoon against the Chicago Bears.
01:37It was a blocked kick that set up Chicago's first score, as they came pouring in on the
01:41Tampa Bay punter, and Lee Coons got all over it.
01:45The Bears then recovered it, and from there, Walter Payton was able to score his 60th career
01:49touchdown, which ties him for the all-time Bear leadership.
01:54Here he is, ramming in for the six points, extra point, made it 7-0.
01:58Gary Fencek then had one of the three interceptions off Doug Williams, and the Bears were in business
02:05again.
02:06Here comes the run back by Fencek to set it up, and it was Dave Williams running a pattern
02:11for Mike Phipps, hit him with the score, and it is 14-0 with time, running out in the first
02:16half in Tampa Bay.
02:19Running out in the first half in Philadelphia, Brandon Kors, the Eagles lead the Detroit
02:22Lions by a commanding 24-0 score.
02:25Harold Connick has caught two touchdown passes so far.
02:27We've got a couple of minutes left to go at halftime.
02:30Ron Jaworski in the first quarter, goes as big receiver right here, keeps his catching
02:33streak alive to 110 games, setting up a scoring opportunity later with Wilbert Montgomery,
02:387-0 Philadelphia.
02:39Jaworski again going up on top, going to number 17, a corner pattern, touchdown Philadelphia,
02:45and the Eagles seem to have a cakewalk and hand 14-0 early in the ballgame.
02:49Jaworski going up once again, his favorite target, Carmichael, touchdown, and the Eagles
02:52lead at halftime.
02:53We're just a couple of seconds left to go in a half-by-score, 24-0.
02:56They are at the half now in Tampa Bay, still 14-0, Chicago over the Buccaneers.
03:00The game you're watching, of course, Washington and Green Bay.
03:03Started out as though it might be easy for the Redskins, Joe Theismann here to Ricky
03:07Thompson.
03:08Thompson at the one-yard line, crashed in for the touchdown.
03:11It was 7-0 Skins.
03:12Lynn Dickey is directing the Packers now for Bart Starr, over the middle to Walter Tullis,
03:17and this was a 52-yard touchdown play, and again the Redskins secondary is burned for
03:22the first time.
03:23Theismann threw a bad pass right here, intercepted in the end zone, badly underthrown receiver
03:28that time, down came the Packers, up over the top went Nate Simpson, it was 14-7.
03:34Then with time running out of the second period, here was the bomb, Dickey, and again the Packers
03:39have scored, and oh, the loss of Kenny Houston for the Redskins.
03:42He will be out for the remainder of the season because of a broken wrist, and the NFL today
03:46will continue on CBS after these messages from your local stations.
03:49♪♪

05:39Coming up next on CBS, one of three doubleheader games.
05:42The Atlanta Falcons will be playing the San Diego Chargers,
05:45the Minnesota Vikings are in the Los Angeles Coliseum for an appointment with the Rams,
05:49and the key attraction, the New York Giants are in Dallas to take on the troubled Cowboys.
05:54The Cowboys have lost three straight.
05:56In fact, you have to go back to this rally for their last victory.
06:00121 left.
06:01Roger Staubach trying to rally against the Giants.
06:04The Cowboys are behind, third and two.
06:06He hits Drew Pearson, first down at the 29.
06:09From the shotgun again.
06:10Staubach to Pearson, and he gets to the 45.
06:14Now the screen pass to Tony Dorsett.
06:18A 33-yard gain, and Dorsett got down to the Giants' 12-yard line.
06:26With the seconds running out, Rafael Septian kicked the field goal
06:31that gave the Cowboys a 16-14 victory.
06:35Now it's rematch time.
06:37Tom Landry, how improved are the Giants?
06:41I don't see a real major improvement other than they've won more games.
06:45They lost one or two along the way too, but they know they can win now,
06:49and they're very confident.
06:51They're playing very good defensive football.
06:54Tampa Bay beat them pretty well, but they did it mostly on passing and turnovers.
06:59But they're a good defensive team.
07:01Our offense is going to play awful well.
07:03Irv, I think we should add that if the Cowboys had lost that game to the Giants,
07:07that losing streak would now be five because they had lost the week before to Pittsburgh.
07:11Now you have been following the Dallas Cowboys very carefully.
07:14What's wrong with the team this year?
07:16I don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with the team, Brent.
07:19They're still a great football team, but in the last five games,
07:22the Cowboys have turned the ball over 13 times and only taken it away once.
07:26You can't win with that kind of football.
07:28How do you like today's game against the Giants?
07:30Will they come back at home or is there still more trouble ahead for them?
07:34They're going to have trouble on the hands of the Giants
07:36because the Giants have a championship defense.
07:38They are a quality defensive football team,
07:40but when the Cowboys have their backs against the wall, you have to go along with it.
07:43All right.
07:44Irv, there's one other player that I want to mention in the National Football League.
07:47You saw him in action on Thursday night.
07:50He's been a longtime star around the league.
07:53Then he was a benchwarmer until the second half, and out he came again, Bob Greasy,
07:58directing the Miami Dolphins to a come-from-behind victory over the New England Patriots.
08:03This one to Tony Nathan.
08:05Then you'll see the touchdown pass to Nat Moore.
08:07Forget the stats.
08:09Bob Greasy was benched for Don Struck, and he handled it like a gentleman.
08:12And when the time came, Greasy was ready to do the job.
08:15He has been knocked by broadcasters.
08:17He has been knocked by other quarterbacks.
08:19But he demonstrated once again that he is an extremely high-class human being.
08:23Now let's send you back to the stadiums.
