00:00
hi kids today we will learn the decimal place values tenths hundreds and
00:09
thousands and naming decimal numbers so let's get started
00:17
kids tenths have one digit after the decimal point like 0.5 is 5 tenths as
00:30
there is only one digit to the right of the decimal point so it is tenths place
00:39
and we name it as 5 tenths here we have another decimal number and we will name
00:50
it as 6 tenths here is one more we will name it as 4 tenths now let's name this
01:02
number the number before the decimal is whole part it is named as it is then
01:14
decimal is named as and now if there is one number after decimal it is named as
01:26
tenth if there is second number after decimal it is named as hundred if there
01:36
is third number after decimal it is named as thousands here we have one
01:44
digit after decimal so it will be named as tenths so we will name this number as
01:55
4 and 1 tenths and is for decimal now let's take another example here we have
02:07
to name this decimal number the number before the decimal is whole part it is
02:16
named as it is decimal is named as and so the name became 23 and now we have
02:33
two digits after the decimal so we will name it as hundredths so our name became
02:43
23 and 12 hundredths now we are given with a decimal number name we have to
02:55
convert it into its standard form that is 4 and 6 tenths let's learn how we can
03:06
convert it into its standard form the number before and is a whole number just
03:17
write it as it is it is for now and stands for decimal point so put a
03:30
decimal point in place of and now six tenths means six is first digit after
03:41
decimal point so we will write it as 4.6 now let's take another example 24 and
03:55
7 tenths we have to convert it to its standard form the number before and is a
04:07
whole number just write it as it is so write 24 now we know and means decimal
04:21
point so put a decimal now seven tenths means seven is the first digit after the
04:31
decimal point so our number became 24.7 kids now let's learn about hundredths
04:45
place hundreds place means there are two digits after the decimal and last
04:53
digit must be a number other than zero this is two hundredths as two is the
05:04
seconds place after decimal this is five hundredths as five is at the
05:13
seconds place from decimal number kids now how will you write six hundredths
05:25
hundreds means there are two digits after the decimal point and second digit
05:33
is not zero so it will be point zero six as zeros hold the places where there
05:44
are no digits also you can write it as 0.06 or point zero six now let's write
05:58
four hundredths four hundredths means there are two digits after decimal point
06:05
and the last digit is not zero we will write it as point zero four now let's
06:18
write four and one hundredth first right for now right and that is decimal
06:30
now one hundredths mean two digits after decimal place and second place is not
06:39
zero so right 0.01 now let's write 24 and two hundredths first right 24 now
06:56
right and that is decimal now two hundredths means two is a second digit
07:06
after decimal so we will write it as twenty four point zero two now let's
07:18
write four and seventeen hundredths first right for now we know and means
07:29
point so put a decimal now seventeen hundredths mean there are two digits
07:39
after decimal point so right four point seventeen so kids we learned when it's
07:50
hundreds there are two digits after the decimal point and the last digit must
07:57
not be zero now let's learn about thousands place thousands place means
08:07
there are three digits after the decimal point point zero zero two is named as
08:17
thousands let's have a look at a few examples point zero zero five is five
08:29
thousands point zero zero six is six thousands point zero twelve is twelve
08:41
thousands point 123 is 123 thousands so kids whenever there are three digits
08:53
after decimal point you name them as thousands and remember zeros hold places
09:02
where the digits are less than three now how will you write four and one
09:12
thousandth first right for now right and that is decimal so put a decimal now
09:28
one thousandth mean there are three digits after the decimal and last digit
09:36
is not zero so place one at the third place and zeros will hold the places
09:44
where there are no digits so our number is four point zero zero one which is four
09:55
and one thousandth now let's write 24 and two thousandth first right 24 now
10:11
right and that is decimal now two thousandths means two is the third digit
10:21
after decimal so it is 24 point zero zero two we place zeros where there are
10:33
no digits now let's write four and 17 thousandths first right for now put
10:46
decimal now 17 thousands means zero one seven are the three digits after the
10:57
decimal point so write it as four point zero one seven zeros hold the places
11:07
where there are no numbers to write good so whenever it's written thousands
11:16
it means there are three digits after the decimal point and last digit is not
11:24
zero zeros take the places after decimals if the number to be written is
11:33
not a three digit number let's have a look at more examples point zero zero
11:42
four is four thousand point two one two is two hundred twelve thousand point zero
11:54
four five is forty five thousand two point zero four equals two and four
12:05
hundred twenty six thousand point zero zero four is twenty six thousand and
12:15
four thousand three hundred and fifty point sixty six equals three hundred and
12:26
fifty and sixty six hundred seventy five point zero zero six is seventy five and
12:37
six thousand now you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more bye bye
