Grub Records is opening to become Sheffield's latest record shop. The shop is on Queen's Road and includes a wine bar.

00:00Hi so I'm Aaron Giles. I'm Harry Shackleton. And what's the record shop

00:05that you're opening here on Queen's Road? It's called Grub Records and we're hard

00:09launching this Friday. And can you tell me a little bit about what sort of

00:13records you'll be selling? So we're going to be selling mainly dance music focused

00:17records so everything from kind of like disco, jazz, world music all the way up

00:23to kind of harder stuff like electro, techno, drum and bass. We're planning to

00:27cover as many kind of niches as we can and have a nice varied stock. And what's

00:33inspired you to open a record shop? We've been talking about it for absolutely

00:37years if I'm going to be completely honest with you. It's the fact there's

00:39been nowhere in Sheffield for us to buy new dance music records, hot releases

00:44that are coming out on that Thursday ready to DJ at the weekends and it's

00:48something that we've missed. We've been buying records online, postage costs an

00:51absolute ton and we really wanted to bring this to Sheffield as somewhere

00:54where you can go buy new music, buy old music and bring it to play for the weekend.

00:59Now you've been open a couple of days a week haven't you for a few

01:03weeks now and what sort of response have you had on the days that you've been

01:07open? It's been amazing. We've been having local DJs play every kind of

01:11Friday, Saturday night. Loads of people coming down enjoying the wine side of

01:14the operation. We've been selling secondhand records through this whole

01:17time which have gone really really well. We're also selling them online. People have

01:21been really enjoying the spot and we're really happy to bring it to five days a

01:25week starting next week. Dave Sherd, you're going to be running the bar side

01:31of things here at Grub Records. Can you tell me a little bit about what you'll

01:36be doing? Yeah for sure. So we've basically put together a menu of natural wines.

01:42They're all seasonal and curated by one of our friends Alex who's a two-star

01:48Michelin sommelier based in Australia. They're a great bunch of wines

01:54really. Really easy drinking, seasonal, organic, biodynamic and yeah there's

01:59something on there for everyone really even people that aren't really into wine.

02:02Will you be open all the time that the record shop's open?

02:05Sorry, yeah we're open the same time the shop will be open. Bar a few hours maybe

02:11on a Sunday we'll be open a little bit later but generally yeah. We've been

02:14working hand in hand with these guys for a while now and it's nice to see it

02:18come together in one space really.
