00:00In this story, we bring you highlights of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's recent
00:26announcement focusing on significant developments for Bihar and its historic temples.
00:32During her Union Budget speech on July 23, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled
00:39ambitious plans for the Vishnupath Temple in Gaya and the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya.
00:46These corridor projects are set to transform these sacred sites into world-class pilgrim
00:51and tourist destinations modelled after the successful Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor.
00:57Let's delve into the significance of these two temples.
01:02The Vishnupath Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, holds a prominent place in Hindu mythology.
01:08Legend tells of a demon named Gayasur, who, after receiving powers to grant moksha, misused
01:14them.
01:15Lord Vishnu intervened, placing his foot on the demon's head, sending him to the underworld.
01:20Today, a 40-centimetre imprint of Vishnu's foot is believed to be located in the temple,
01:27drawing devotees who come during Pitra Paksha to perform rituals in remembrance of their
01:33ancestors.
01:34Built in 1787 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar, the Vishnupath Temple stands on the banks of the
01:40Triphalgu River, featuring a towering structure adorned with 44 pillars.
01:46Moving to the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is revered
01:51as the place where Gautam Buddha attained nirvana under the Mahabodhi tree.
01:56The temple's striking architecture, with its height of 170 feet, dates back to the
02:015th-6th centuries and represents one of the earliest examples of brick construction from
02:07the Gupta period.
02:09As noted by UNESCO, the Mahabodhi Temple complex is a major pilgrimage site, attracting visitors
02:14from around the world.
02:16The budget acknowledges the need of enhanced infrastructure and public amenities to accommodate
02:21the growing influx of pilgrims while preserving the site's spiritual and historical essence.
02:27In addition to these temple projects, Bihar has received several other important announcements
02:32in this year's budget, highlighting the state's role in national politics.
02:36With Ajanta Dal United securing 12 seats in the 2024 general elections and being part
02:41of the NDA coalition, Bihar's influence is significant.
02:46Other states, such as Andhra Pradesh, have also seen considerable budget allocations,
02:51including Rs 15,000 crore for the development of Amravati, its new capital.
02:56As India continues to evolve, these investments in villages and infrastructural projects reflect
03:02the government's commitment to enhancing cultural heritage and regional development.
