00:00On this day in space.
00:03In 1969, human beings walked on the moon for the very first time.
00:08Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin exited their lunar lander
00:12and planted their moon boots on the lunar surface at about 11 p.m. Eastern time.
00:16Armstrong led the way down the ladder.
00:19When he took his first step, he famously said,
00:22That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
00:26Once they found their footing, they got straight to work.
00:29They inspected the spacecraft to look for any damage from the landing,
00:32set up cameras, collected moon rocks,
00:35and planted the American flag into the soil.
00:38They also strolled around on the moon to assess the mobility of their spacesuits.
00:42And that's what happened on this day in space.
