00:00The NBI is now preparing a subpoena for the three doctors who were involved in the alleged illegal sale of the kidney.
00:09The Philippine Medical Association is also preparing its own investigation
00:15which is not yet convinced that they have accomplices involved in the crime.
00:19Maki Pulido is on the case.
00:21The Philippine Medical Association has been alarmed by the three doctors' involvement in organ trafficking.
00:30But Dr. Hector Santos, the President of the PMA, does not believe that there are doctors involved in the sale of the kidney.
00:37The doctor may have diagnosed, agreed on what the patient needs to do, or even operated on the transplant.
00:44But the doctor does not believe that he will sell or buy the kidney for the patient.
00:50The doctor is not the one who is procuring the organ.
00:53They will just check if the patient has sent the organ donor.
00:57The question is, did this go through the department of health?
01:01They have an organ program.
01:03The Philippine Medical Association is ready to investigate, but there is no basis to do this now
01:08because the NBI is not yet naming who these doctors are.
01:13There is evidence that only one doctor in their ethics committee
01:16that the heaviest punishment is a recommendation to suspend the medical license.
01:31The Philippine Society of Nephrology was also surprised by the news.
01:34The PSN does not condone illegal practice of organ trafficking.
01:39We have always advocated for ethical practice in kidney transplantation.
01:43We have to admit that there were some things in the past that have happened.
01:48And historically, there are things that have been proved before.
01:51But it has been suspended because the PSN is very strong, together with our training institutions,
01:57on proper procurement of our organs.
02:01The NBI is now completing all the information before submitting the subpoena for the three doctors.
02:07A nurse at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, or NKTI,
02:11is the alleged leader of the organ trafficking syndicate that was raided in Bulacan.
02:15The NKTI first said that the unit of the alleged nurse had nothing to do with the kidney transplant.
02:20She also talked to the NKTI leadership and denied the allegation.
02:25But she did not report back to work.
02:27According to the NKTI, she was on day off yesterday and is on emergency leave today.
