00:00This said, take a look at what happened.
00:11Hello there, you're watching this special broadcast on One India, the news coming in
00:15that former president of the United States, Donald Trump has been shot at.
00:18Prerna Shanelia, a freelancer journalist from California joins us.
00:22Prerna, what are the details that you are picking up from the ground?
00:25All right, Pankaj, we're learning that former President Donald Trump has been shot
00:29at a convention in Pennsylvania.
00:31And this is what we're learning from the sources, that it was a gunshot by somebody
00:37at the rally. We're not sure who the person was, but it was immediately shot by this
00:42secret services who was there to protect Trump.
00:44And he was taken away in a body bag.
00:47So that is what we're learning right now.
00:49We're not sure what the reasons were, but of course, we're looking at the reasons as
00:54to, you know, this might happen because of the elections coming in.
00:58And yeah.
01:01Absolutely. Prerna, correct me if I'm wrong.
01:04You have been there in the United States for the last more than two years, if I may
01:08say so. And the country is going to polls, as you mentioned.
01:12What kind of atmosphere do you find there in the United States?
01:16Because this is very unlikely possibly happening for the first time that a canvassing
01:21campaigning former president has been shot at.
01:24All right, Pankaj, this is very unconventional, but we're seeing the race has become
01:29really hot at this point.
01:31We're not sure who the Democratic primary candidate might be, because as we know, the
01:38President Biden has been receiving a lot of criticism for his cognitive issues.
01:46But at the other hand, if we see Donald Trump, who is the only primary candidate for the
01:55Republican Party, has been going very strong in this elections and this is happening to
02:00him is very unconventional, right?
02:02You said. But it's not very uncommon in America right now, because with the gun rights
02:06and people having guns in their position, it's very likely that, you know, anybody who
02:14is not happy with what Trump is doing or who wants, you know, elections to be otherwise
02:20or who might be supporting Democrats at this point might be, you know, might have
02:27triggered this action.
02:28And like I said before, we're not sure what the reasons are, but this is what we're
02:34learning that at this point, President Trump is safe and he has been taken away by the
02:40Secret Services. And hopefully very soon we'll get to know what the exact reasons were
02:47for this event.
02:48One final question, Prerna, you mentioned it correctly.
02:54We have seen Donald Trump in support of the gun culture that is plaguing the United States
02:59as we speak.
03:01If you had to pick 100 people there on the street as we speak, what is the scenario?
03:06How popular is Donald Trump or how unpopular?
03:08If I may ask you, he appears to be as of now.
03:12If I tell you the ground pulse, I would say Donald Trump is gaining a lot of popularity
03:18lately, and it's not that it is his policies that people are supporting, but it is Democrats
03:26or I would say Democratic candidate, which is President Biden, that they're not supporting
03:30at this point because people are not sure because of his age.
03:35I think people have been really happy with his work in his past candidacy, but moving
03:41forward, people realize and people know that this position requires a lot of strength,
03:47especially cognitive, which clearly President Biden has been lacking.
03:51And we have seen incidences where this has come into light and people have been noticing
03:58it.
03:59And in the last few weeks, I would say even media has been pointing this out and people
04:05could clearly see that Trump is the only alternative at this point that they have.
04:11So I would say it is people voting against Biden and not for Trump.
04:17And that's the pulse right now.
04:18But elections can go anywhere.
04:21As we all know, this is United States general elections and people can turn, you know, can
04:27turn at any point.
04:28And but at this point, if you ask me, it's President Trump who is very popular among
04:35the public and not Biden.
04:37Right.
04:38Prerna, we have been picking up lots of details here.
04:42Even President Biden has issued a statement and it looks like obviously cutting across
04:48all political lines of this kind of activity must be condemned.
04:52Any possibility?
04:52Because across the universe, we are all humans.
04:56Any possibility that with this incident, Donald Trump's popularity, the sympathy, if I may
05:02say so, would go up?
05:04Definitely, Pankaj.
05:05I think this would grant former President Trump a lot of sympathy votes because this
05:12is something that's not conventional and this is something that should not happen to anyone.
05:16I think people have the right to speech, especially in a free country like America.
05:20I think he should be able to say what you want, especially at a convention when he is
05:26one of the candidates for a ruling party, like, you know, Democratics have their own
05:31right to speech and so does Republicans.
05:34So I think this would definitely grant former President Trump a lot of sympathy votes where
05:39it could be seen as a curve towards his right, where he was, you know, he was stopped from
05:45saying or he was stopped during a speech where he was making some good points about
05:51his services or about his policies that he would bring if he becomes the president.
05:55So it's not just President Biden, but I think a lot of Republican politicians like, you
06:02know, Vivek Ramaswamy, like the speaker, have come out and supported Trump at this point
06:07and said that it is almighty that saved Trump and it is his sacrifice that would bring him
06:13to power in the November 2024 elections.
06:17Thank you so much for joining One India all the way from California.
06:21So there we have it.
