00:00In the face of the ongoing search for a solution to the heavy traffic in Manila,
00:05another key factor is the transportation department to alleviate the headache and bank balance problem.
00:13According to the DOTR, a study has been conducted to build the first cable car system in the country.
00:21Let's take a look at the center of the news, Ryan Lesigues.
00:26The heavy traffic in Manila is a major problem.
00:32That's why the DOTR is hastening projects such as the railway system
00:37that is expected to help alleviate the heavy traffic, especially in EDSA.
00:42But the DOTR's solution is not just the railway system.
00:46The DOTR is also pursuing the construction of a cable car project in the country.
00:54In the Build Better More Forum in New Clark City,
00:57DOTR Undersecretary Timothy Batan said that the agency has already completed
01:02the pre-feasibility study of the Antipolo Cable Car in the first half of 2024.
01:24In Manila East Road, next to Antipolo,
01:28we thought about exploring the possibility of coming up with a feeder,
01:34what we call a feeder line.
01:35In the pre-feasibility project, the cable car is planned to be launched
01:40from MRT 4 in Taytay, Rizal to Antipolo.
01:43The DOTR will immediately pursue the detailed feasibility study.
01:50Here, it is known how many passengers are expected to be serviced by the cable car project
01:55and how much the government will spend.
01:58We know that Antipolo is very dense, lots of residents, lots of economic activity.
02:03So it will be complementary to MRT 4, to connect MRT 4 with Antipolo City.
02:10And that's where the idea of a cable car project came up.
02:16Meanwhile, the DOTR may possibly bid out the project at the end of 2025
02:21or in the first half of 2026.
02:23And if it continues, it is expected that the cable car will be implemented in the country in 2028.
02:30The DPWH is also included in the Build Better More Infrastructure Forum
02:35and one of the projects they will focus on is the problem of flooding.
02:40There are 18 major river basins in the country.
02:43One of them is under construction and will cost P240 billion.
02:49According to DPWH Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral,
02:53under the program, DPWH will prioritize flood management
02:58in the major river basins, such as Pampanga, Mindanao River and Cagayan de Oro.
03:07We want to make sure that our projects are also usable and will be sustainable.
03:16That's our goal.
03:18So integrated water resource management program is the key to managing flood.
03:25According to DPWH, there are already 5,521 flood control projects in May this year
03:35that were started in July 2022.
03:38DPWH has a partnership with DINR and NIA for the construction of flood control systems
03:45to use the accumulated water for irrigation and to be a source of electricity.
