00:00Yesterday, the Reciprocal Access Agreement or RAA was signed between the Philippines and Japan.
00:07It is said to be an agreement to ensure security between the two countries.
00:12Defense Secretary Givote Odoro is the Philippines' representative for the ceremonial signing,
00:17and for Japan, Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Iyoko.
00:21Several other officials of the two countries, including President Bongbong Marcos, are also witnesses.
00:27The RAA will allow the entry of Japanese soldiers in the country
00:31and Filipino soldiers in Japan for joint training exercises,
00:35as well as the humanitarian assistance of Japan to the Philippines in times of calamity.
00:40The Senate must approve the agreement.
00:43In the two-plus-two ministerial meetings,
00:46the Philippines and Japan urged China to comply with international laws,
00:51such as the 2016 Arbitral Tribunal Ruling.
00:54According to the Defense Pact,
00:56Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian said
00:59that the RAA should not threaten peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
