00:00Today, we will be taking a first look at Will Smith as the Genie in the live-action version

00:05of Aladdin.

00:14The first look at Will Smith as the beloved Genie in Disney's live-action iteration of

00:19Aladdin has arrived.

00:20Much to the surprise of many fans, this version of the Genie isn't big and blue, like the

00:25character voiced by Robin Williams in the animated film.

00:28Rather, this Genie stays true to the live-action form and is an actual person.

00:32Will Smith is fully Will Smith, no CGI involved, although the studio is hinting at it being

00:38implemented later on.

00:40Disney released a teaser trailer for the live-action Aladdin back in October, in the process teasing

00:44the iconic Cave of Wonders from the 1992 animated film.

00:48However, while the trailer showed Aladdin approaching the famous magical lamp that resides

00:52within the massive cave, it didn't actually feature an appearance by the Genie.

00:57Well, wait no more, the first photos of Smith in the film have arrived.

01:01Entertainment Weekly has published a handful of new images from the live-action Aladdin,

01:06along with the magazine covers that feature Smith and co-stars Mina Massad as Aladdin

01:11and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, all together.

01:14Smith is seen here in his regular human form only, leaving it to a future trailer of photos

01:18to reveal his massive blue CGI design in the film.

01:22Of course, this Genie is different than the one that fans fell in love with back in the

01:26But that's okay, director Guy Ritchie was well aware that he could never recreate the

01:30magic of Robin Williams, so he decided to go in a completely different direction.

01:35According to Entertainment Weekly, the effects weren't finished on Smith's blue floating

01:39form as the Genie, which is why it's being held back for now.

01:42Smith went on to say that he believes his version of the Genie will stand the test of

01:46time because there hasn't been anything like him in a Disney movie to this point.

01:50I think it'll stand out as a unique even in the Disney world, he said.

01:54There hasn't been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history.
