UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy says commitment to Ukraine 'is ironclad'

On his second day in the job, Lammy is on a whirlwind tour of 'key partner' countries Germany, Poland and Sweden where continued support for Ukraine was high on the agenda.

00:00The U.K.'s Foreign Secretary David Lamey has said Westminster's commitment to Ukraine is

00:07ironclad.

00:08Lamey was speaking in Hobielin after meeting his Polish counterpart, Radoslaw Sikorski,

00:14where the two ministers discussed security issues ahead of next week's NATO summit in

00:19Washington.

00:20They stressed both countries were prepared to provide long-term support to Ukraine, with

00:26Lamey saying that the U.K. took its commitment to Ukraine and NATO very, very seriously indeed.

00:32And of course what I think will be achieved over the coming days is that we demonstrate

00:41to Putin that we are there for the long haul, and that the finances to support Ukraine financially

00:55and militarily, and in terms of aid, are there, and that the alliance is firm and very

01:05importantly united.

01:08Sikorski said NATO leaders would present a united front at the 75th summit in Washington,

01:14saying Poland is a front-runner in terms of helping Ukraine.

01:41Lamey's whirlwind first trip as Foreign Secretary, which also saw him visit Germany and Sweden,

01:46aims to reset ties between the U.K. and the EU.

01:50And a reset was also on the agenda for Keir Starmer, who is visiting all four constituent

01:55nations of the United Kingdom.

01:58In Scotland on Sunday, which Starmer billed as an immediate reset with the devolved governments,

02:04he said he would seek to improve the U.K.'s trade deal with the European Union, which

02:08he called botched.
