Imran Khan rose to power after he staged 2014 sit in where he and his goons entered the Federal capital of pakistan in islamabad. Khan and his goons attacked several Government buildings and even severely beat up police officials including head of police. His aim was to usurp power which he couldn't do so by contesting elections. So use of force was the only option for this vagabond. He urged expats to stop sending money through banking channels, called for civil disobedience which included not paying taxes and utility bills. This was an attempt to default the state and running government.
However, supreme court of pakistan convicted existing premier nawaz sharif and paved way for Khan and Company to destabilize pakistan. After spending three and a half years in Government as a Premier, Khan was ousted through a democratic process called no confidence motion. Khan blamed united states for his expulsion and his party also blamed Saudi Arabia of playing a role. Upon his arrest, Imran Khan's led party Pakistan Tehreek e insaaf arranged a brazen attack on Army buildings and other infrastructure of pakistan. You may google may 9th riots in Pakistan.
