Harriet Cross is elected as MP for Gordon and Buchan, to cheers for party activists.

00:16Therefore, I give public notice that Harriet Cross is duly elected as the Member of Parliament

00:31for the Gordon and Buchan Constituency. The total number of votes cast across Gordon

00:35and Buchan Constituency at UK Parliamentary Elections on 4 July was 44,040, with the total

00:42number of ballot papers rejected being 166. Thank you.

00:55Good morning everyone and thank you. I of course want to start by thanking everyone

01:01who's turned out today to the polling stations to cast their vote, but obviously importantly

01:06those who actually made the vote happen by manning the polling stations today at the

01:10count this evening, Presiding Officer. None of this is obviously possible without them.

01:14But to the people of Gordon and Buchan, thank you so much for putting your faith in me.

01:20I know, I know that politics has not been in the best place and I know that a lot of

01:25people feel disillusioned and it's up to me and it's up to everyone who's now elected

01:30in this new Parliament to put that right and to serve you as our prime focus and that is

01:35what I promise to do. I made pledges to you and I mean those pledges, they're ones which

01:40I picked up after speaking to you on doors for more than a year now and I know they're

01:45important to you and that means that they're important to me. It'd be wrong of me not to

01:50acknowledge Richard for his service to Gordon over the last five years and I know you'll

02:00have done great work and I hope that we can carry some of that on if there's stuff left

02:04over. But going forward, as I say, I'm so honoured to be given this opportunity to serve

02:12you and represent you and I will do my very best for you every day. Thank you very much.
