00:13The Egyptian campaign, which Napoleon Bonaparte organized and personally led, from 1798 to 1801, had the primary objective of attempting to capture Egypt.

00:29The quiet period, that ensued after the spectacular triumphs of the, 1796 to 1797, Italian campaign did not align with General Bonaparte's political strategies.

00:46Following his initial triumphs, Napoleon started to assert his autonomy.

00:53He required another set of triumphant events, to seize the public's attention,

01:11he devised a plan for an invasion to take Egypt.

01:16He also successfully persuaded the Directory, that France needed to build a colony, on the Red Sea.

01:25As this would provide the quickest path to India.

01:29Fearing Bonaparte's popularity, the Directory government chose to remove him from Paris,
