00:45It's been a very long count and a very long evening.

00:48I want to start by thanking of course Keir Starmer,

00:51who has transformed the Labour Party since our terrible result in 2019,

00:56to bring us to this fantastic result this evening.

01:01May I begin by giving my warmest congratulations to Dan Norris,

01:05who has been a servant of North East Somerset or Wansdyke, as it then was, before,

01:10and I'm sure will be a devoted constituency MP in future.

01:15And congratulate Sir Keir Starmer, who has led his party to what seems to be an historic victory,

01:21and this is the great virtue of our democracy.

01:24So I congratulate both of them.

01:27And one final thought, from Caractacus Potts,

01:31and that is, from the ashes of disaster, grow the roses of success.
