Severe weather causing damaged infrastructure and at least four deaths in the mountainous central European country of Switzerland has forced one federal politician to ponder if the country is capable of weathering future storms.

00:08the country is to natural disasters, a national politician has said.
00:13Federal Councillor Ignacio Cassis delivered the warning in the northern Swiss canton of
00:17Ticino, an area lashed by severe flooding over the weekend, causing damaged infrastructure
00:23and three deaths.
00:24What is happening is a question that comes spontaneously to everyone.
00:29Will we go on like this all summer to see one natural disaster after another or will
00:34it stop?
00:35Who knows?
00:36Nobody knows.
00:37But certainly this closeness and this repetition of a week touches us deeply, makes us understand
00:45how fragile we are.
00:48Swiss President Viola Amherd wrote on social media that the situation remains tense with
00:53local police urging caution.
01:04Neighbouring European countries have been similarly battered by severe weather, which
01:09researchers caution will become more common due to climate change.
01:13Roughly 200 people were recently evacuated from northern Italian towns as the region
01:19was lashed by floods, thunderstorms and landslides.
