Chat with Wendi Peters ahead of Lancashire shows

Lancashire actress Wendi Peters spoke to us ahead of her performances in Sister Act at the Winter Gardens

00:00I'm talking to you because you're bringing the Sister Act to Blackpool Winter Gardens

00:13in July. How are you feeling about coming up to Blackpool with it?

00:17Oh, I always love going back to Blackpool. It's sort of, it's obviously the area I was

00:22brought up in. I have lots of lovely memories. It's such a beautiful, big barn of a theatre.

00:29I remember I think I first played it in 1983. I was in the Blackpool Children's Pantomime

00:37at the Opera House Winter Gardens. And so, and then I've gone back and done lots of other

00:43shows there. So it holds lots of lovely memories. Yeah, it's great. It's always great to be back in

00:48Blackpool, but nice to be there in the summer when it'll be a bit more buzzy. The last times

00:53I've been there, it's sort of been just before Easter and it's been a bit quiet, but it'll be

00:57great. And hopefully if the weather stays like this, it'll be fun.

01:00Being from Lancashire yourself, does it feel any different performing in Lancashire to

01:05Lancashire audiences?

01:06It's always lovely. You know, the audiences all around the country have been brilliant with

01:12Sister Act. They're always up on their feet at the end. But there is something a bit more special

01:17about being up north and being here that the audiences just seem so much more open to it,

01:24right from the start, and they want to have a good time. But it's lovely for me to always come

01:28back because I get to stay at my mum and dad's and I get to see them and I get to see my sister.

01:33The dog comes with me, so she's having a great time. So it's lovely to catch up with people.

01:39Aside from performing on stage and seeing your family,

01:42is there anything else you want to do whilst you're up in Lancashire?

01:46Not really, no, because to be honest, that's taking up all my time, catching up with everybody.

01:51Do you still have lots of family who live in the area?

01:55Well, my mum and dad and my sister, not lots and lots of family, but yeah, enough to be

02:01catching up with and a few old school friends, you know, to catch up with and do dog walks with.

02:05So yeah, it'd be fun.

02:08How would you persuade the other people in Lancashire to come see you in Sister Act?

02:12Oh goodness, I mean, what a month we've got coming up and leading up to this

02:17general election and everything. There's so much going on, the Euros, football,

02:22and whether you like football or not, that's great, or whether you want to vote or not,

02:25but you should vote, obviously, on the 4th of July. But after that, come along to Sister Act

02:30and you will have two and a half hours of pure escapism. You will laugh so much. It's great

02:37music. We've got an amazing orchestra, amazing singers, amazing cast. Landy, who plays Dolores,

02:43I don't know how she does it, eight shows a week. She belts out number after number after number,

02:48and you cannot be overjoyed at the end. I would pay somebody money if they didn't say

02:54they were overjoyed and not dancing at the end.
