In a heated presidential debate, Joe Biden and Donald Trump exchanged personal insults, with Biden struggling to address concerns about his age and Trump criticizing his successor's performance on the economy and global affairs. Biden, who had prepared intensively, appeared faltering, speaking rapidly in a raspy voice, stumbling over words, and staring open-mouthed. Trump's bombastic attacks and Biden's uneven performance have heightened worries within the Democratic Party as polls show Trump tied or ahead in the race. This historic debate, the first between a sitting president and a former president, featured accusations of incompetence and childish behavior. Both men, Biden at 81 and Trump at 78, did not shake hands and spoke from muted microphones to avoid interruptions

00:00:00Folks, how are you?
00:00:01Great to be here.
00:00:02Thank you.
00:00:03And please welcome the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump.
00:00:24Gentlemen, thanks so much for being here.
00:00:29Let's begin the debate, and let's start with the issue that voters consistently say is
00:00:34their top concern, the economy.
00:00:37President Biden, inflation has slowed, but prices remain high.
00:00:41Since you took office, the price of essentials has increased.
00:00:45For example, a basket of groceries that cost $100 then now costs more than $120.
00:00:51And typical home prices have jumped more than 30%.
00:00:55What do you say to voters who feel they are worse off under your presidency than they
00:00:59were under President Trump?
00:01:00We've got to take a look at what I was left when I became president and what Mr. Trump
00:01:04left me.
00:01:05We had an economy that was in freefall.
00:01:07The pandemic was so badly handled.
00:01:10Many people were dying.
00:01:11All he said was, it's not that serious.
00:01:13Just inject a little bleach into your arm.
00:01:15You'll be all right.
00:01:16The economy collapsed.
00:01:17There were no jobs.
00:01:20Unemployment rate rose to 15%.
00:01:22It was terrible.
00:01:23And so what we had to do is try to put things back together again.
00:01:26That's exactly what we began to do.
00:01:28We created 15,000 new jobs.
00:01:30We brought out a position where we have 800,000 new manufacturing jobs, but there's more to
00:01:36be done.
00:01:37There's more to be done.
00:01:38Working-class people are still in trouble.
00:01:40I come from Scranton, Pennsylvania.
00:01:41I come from a household where the kitchen table, if things weren't able to be met during
00:01:45the month, it was a problem.
00:01:46The price of eggs, the price of gas, the price of housing, the price of a whole range of
00:01:50things.
00:01:51That's why I'm working so hard to make sure I deal with those problems, that we're going
00:01:55to make sure that we reduce the price of housing, we're going to make sure we build
00:01:592 million new units, we're going to make sure we cap rents so corporate greed can't take
00:02:04over.
00:02:05The combination of what I was left with and corporate greed is the reason why we're in
00:02:07this problem right now.
00:02:09In addition to that, we're in a situation where if you take a look at all that was done
00:02:14in his administration, he didn't do much at all.
00:02:17By the time he left, things were in chaos, literally chaos.
00:02:21And so we put things back together.
00:02:23We created, I said, those jobs.
00:02:24We made sure we had a situation where we now, we brought down the price of prescription
00:02:29drugs, which is a major issue for many people, to $15 for an insulin shot as opposed to $400.
00:02:37No senior has to pay more than $200 for any drug, all the drugs they can include beginning
00:02:43next year.
00:02:44And the situation is, we're going to make that available to everybody, to all Americans.
00:02:49So we're working to bring down the price around the kitchen table, and that's what we're going
00:02:52to get done.
00:02:54Thank you.
00:02:55President Trump?
00:02:56We have the greatest economy in the history of our country.
00:02:59We have never done so well.
00:03:02Everybody was amazed by it.
00:03:04Other countries were copying us.
00:03:05We got hit with COVID, and when we did, we spent the money necessary so we wouldn't end
00:03:11up in a Great Depression, the likes of which we had in 1929 by the time we finished.
00:03:16So we did a great job.
00:03:17We got a lot of credit for the economy, a lot of credit for the military, and no wars
00:03:21and so many other things.
00:03:23Everything was rocking good.
00:03:25But the thing we never got the credit for, and we should have, is getting us out of that
00:03:28COVID mess.
00:03:30He created mandates that was a disaster for our country, but other than that, we had given
00:03:35them back a country where the stock market actually was higher than pre-COVID, and nobody
00:03:41thought that was even possible.
00:03:43The only jobs he created are for illegal immigrants and bounce-back jobs, a bounce-back from the
00:03:48COVID.
00:03:49He has not done a good job.
00:03:50He's done a poor job, and inflation is killing our country.
00:03:53It is absolutely killing us.
00:03:55Thank you.
00:03:56President Biden?
00:03:57Well, look, the greatest economy in the world, he's the only one who thinks that, I think.
00:04:00I don't know anybody else who thinks he had the greatest economy in the world.
00:04:04And the fact of the matter is that we found ourselves in a situation where his economy,
00:04:12he rewarded the wealthy.
00:04:13He had the largest tax cut in American history, $2 trillion.
00:04:17He raised the deficit larger than any president has in any one term.
00:04:20He's the only president other than Herbert Hoover who has lost more jobs than he had
00:04:24when he began, since Herbert Hoover.
00:04:26The idea that he did something that was significant in the military, you know, when he was president,
00:04:32they were still killing people in Afghanistan.
00:04:35He didn't do anything about that.
00:04:36When he was president, we were still finding ourselves in a position where you had a notion
00:04:40that we were this safe country.
00:04:43The truth is, I'm the only president this century that doesn't have any, this decade,
00:04:49that doesn't have any troops dying anywhere in the world like he did.
00:04:55President Trump, I want to follow up if I can.
00:04:57You want to- Am I allowed to respond to him?
00:04:58Well, I'm going to ask you a follow up.
00:05:00You can do whatever you want with the minute that we give you.
00:05:02I want to follow up.
00:05:03You want to impose a 10% tariff on all goods coming into the US.
00:05:07How will you ensure that that doesn't drive prices even higher?
00:05:10It's not going to drive them higher.
00:05:11It's just going to cost countries that have been ripping us off for years like China and
00:05:15many others in all fairness to China.
00:05:17It's going to just force them to pay us a lot of money, reduce our deficit tremendously,
00:05:22and give us a lot of power for other things.
00:05:24But he made a statement.
00:05:25The only thing he was right about is I gave you the largest tax cut in history.
00:05:29I also gave you the largest regulation cut in history.
00:05:32That's why we had all the jobs.
00:05:33And the jobs went down, and then they bounced back.
00:05:35And he's taking credit for bounce back jobs.
00:05:37You can't do that.
00:05:38He also said he inherited 9% inflation.
00:05:41No, he inherited almost no inflation, and it stayed that way for 14 months.
00:05:46And then it blew up under his leadership because they spent money like a bunch of people
00:05:50that didn't know what they were doing.
00:05:52And they don't know what they were doing.
00:05:53It was the worst, probably the worst administration in history.
00:05:56There's never been.
00:05:57And as far as Afghanistan is concerned, I was getting out of Afghanistan.
00:06:01But we were getting out with dignity, with strength, with power.
00:06:05He got out.
00:06:06It was the most embarrassing day in the history of our country's life.
00:06:10President Trump, over the last eight years, under both of your administrations, the national
00:06:15debt soared to record highs.
00:06:17And according to a new nonpartisan analysis, President Trump, your administration approved
00:06:20$8.4 trillion in new debt, while so far, President Biden, you've approved $4.3 trillion in new
00:06:27debt.
00:06:28So, former President Trump, many of the tax cuts that you signed into law are set to expire
00:06:32next year.
00:06:33You want to extend them and go even further, you say.
00:06:36With the U.S. facing trillion-dollar deficits and record debt, why should top earners and
00:06:41corporations pay even less in taxes than they do now?
00:06:44Because the tax cuts spurred the greatest economy that we've ever seen, just prior to
00:06:49COVID.
00:06:50And even after COVID, it was so strong that we were able to get through COVID much better
00:06:53than just about any other country.
00:06:55But we spurred, that tax spurred.
00:06:57Now, when we cut the taxes, as an example, the corporate tax was cut down to 21 percent
00:07:02from 39 percent, plus beyond that.
00:07:05We took in more revenue with much less tax, and companies were bringing back trillions
00:07:10of dollars back into our country.
00:07:12The country was going like never before.
00:07:15And we were ready to start paying down debt.
00:07:17We're ready to start using the liquid gold right under our feet, the oil and gas right
00:07:21under our feet.
00:07:22We were going to have something that nobody else has had.
00:07:25We got hit with COVID.
00:07:27We did a lot to fix it.
00:07:28I gave him an unbelievable situation with all of the therapeutics and all of the things
00:07:33that we came up with.
00:07:35We gave him something great.
00:07:37Remember, more people died under his administration, even though we had largely fixed it.
00:07:43More people died under his administration than our administration.
00:07:47And we were right in the middle of it, something which a lot of people don't like to talk about.
00:07:51But he had far more people dying in his administration.
00:07:54He did the mandate, which is a disaster, mandating it.
00:07:57The vaccine went out.
00:07:58He did a mandate on the vaccine, which is the thing that people most objected to about
00:08:03the vaccine.
00:08:04And he did a very poor job, just a very poor job.
00:08:07And I will tell you, not only poor there, but throughout the entire world, we're no
00:08:11longer respected as a country.
00:08:13They don't respect our leadership.
00:08:14They don't respect the United States anymore.
00:08:17We're like a third world nation between weaponization of his election, trying to go after his political
00:08:22opponent.
00:08:23All of the things he's done, we've become like a third world nation.
00:08:27And it's a shame.
00:08:28The damage he's done to our country, and I'd love to ask him and will, why he allowed millions
00:08:33of people to come in here from prisons, jails and mental institutions to come into our country
00:08:39and destroy our country.
00:08:41President Trump, we will get to immigration later in this block.
00:08:44President Biden, I want to give you an opportunity to respond to this question about the national
00:08:48debt.
00:08:49He had the largest national debt of any president in a four year period, number one.
00:08:53Number two, he got $2 trillion tax cut, benefited the very wealthy.
00:08:58What I'm going to do is fix the tax system.
00:09:00For example, we have a thousand trillionaires in America, I mean, billionaires in America.
00:09:05And what's happening?
00:09:06They're in a situation where they, in fact, pay 8.2% in taxes.
00:09:11If they just paid 24%, 25%, either one of those numbers, they've raised $500 million,
00:09:17billion dollars, I should say, in a 10 year period.
00:09:20We'd be able to right wipe out his debt.
00:09:22We'd be able to help make sure that all those things we need to do, childcare, elder care,
00:09:27making sure that we continue to strengthen our health care system, making sure that we're
00:09:31able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with
00:09:37the COVID, excuse me, with dealing with everything we have to do with.
00:09:46Look, if we finally beat Medicare.
00:09:52Thank you, President Biden.
00:09:53President Trump.
00:09:54He's right.
00:09:55He did beat Medicare.
00:09:56He beat it to death and he's destroying Medicare because all of these people are coming in.
00:10:01They're putting them on Medicare.
00:10:03They're putting them on Social Security.
00:10:05They're going to destroy Social Security.
00:10:06This man is going to single handedly destroy Social Security.
00:10:10These millions and millions of people coming in, they're trying to put them on Social Security.
00:10:15He will wipe out Social Security.
00:10:17He will wipe out Medicare.
00:10:19So he was right in the way he finished that sentence.
00:10:21And it's a shame.
00:10:22What's happened to our country in the last four years is not to be believed.
00:10:28Foreign countries, I'm friends with a lot of people.
00:10:30They cannot believe what happened to the United States of America.
00:10:33We're no longer respected.
00:10:35They don't like us.
00:10:37We give them everything they want and they think we're stupid.
00:10:40They think we're very stupid people.
00:10:42What we're doing for other countries and they do nothing for us.
00:10:45What this man has done is absolutely criminal.
00:10:50Thank you, President Trump.
00:10:51Dana.
00:10:52This is the first presidential election since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
00:10:57This morning, the court ruled on yet another abortion case temporarily allowing emergency
00:11:03abortions to continue in Idaho, despite that state's restrictive ban.
00:11:08Former President Trump, you take credit for the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which
00:11:13returned the issue of abortion to the states.
00:11:17However, the federal government still plays a role in whether or not women have access
00:11:23to abortion pills.
00:11:25They're used in about two thirds of all abortions.
00:11:29As president, would you block abortion medication?
00:11:33First of all, the Supreme Court just approved the abortion pill.
00:11:37And I agree with their decision to have done that.
00:11:39And I will not block it.
00:11:41And if you look at this whole question that you're asking, a complex but not really complex
00:11:4751 years ago, you had Roe v. Wade and everybody wanted to get it back to the states.
00:11:52Everybody, without exception, Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives.
00:11:57Everybody wanted it back.
00:11:58Religious leaders.
00:11:59And what I did is I put three great Supreme Court justices on the court and they happened
00:12:04to vote in favor of killing Roe v. Wade and moving it back to the states.
00:12:09This is something that everybody wanted.
00:12:12Now, 10 years ago or so, they started talking about how many weeks and how many this getting
00:12:16into other things.
00:12:17But every legal scholar throughout the world, the most respected, wanted it brought back
00:12:23to the states.
00:12:24I did that.
00:12:25Now the states are working it out.
00:12:26If you look at Ohio, it was a decision that was it was an end result that was a little
00:12:30bit more liberal than you would have thought.
00:12:32Kansas, I would say the same thing.
00:12:35Texas is different.
00:12:36Florida is different.
00:12:37But they're all making their own decisions right now.
00:12:40And right now, the states control it.
00:12:42That's the vote of the people.
00:12:44Like Ronald Reagan, I believe in the exceptions.
00:12:47I am a person that believes.
00:12:49And frankly, I think it's important to believe in the exception.
00:12:52Some people you have to follow your heart.
00:12:53Some people don't believe in that.
00:12:55But I believe in the exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
00:13:00I think it's very important.
00:13:01Some people don't follow your heart, but you have to get elected also.
00:13:05And because that has to do with other things.
00:13:07You got to get elected.
00:13:08The problem they have is they're radical because they will take the life of a child in the
00:13:13eighth month, the ninth month and even after birth, after birth.
00:13:16If you look at the former governor of Virginia, he was willing to do this.
00:13:21He said, we'll put the baby aside and we'll determine what we do with the baby, meaning
00:13:25we'll kill the baby.
00:13:27What happened is we brought it back to the states and the country is now coming together
00:13:31on this issue.
00:13:32It's been a great thing.
00:13:34Thank you, President Biden.
00:13:35It's been a terrible thing what you've done.
00:13:38The fact is that the vast majority of constitutional scholars supported Roe when it was decided.
00:13:44And that was that's this idea that they were all against it.
00:13:47It's just ridiculous.
00:13:48And this is the guy who says the state should be able to have it.
00:13:51We're a state where in six weeks you don't even know whether you're pregnant or not,
00:13:55but you cannot see a doctor, have your and have him decide on what your circumstances
00:14:00are, whether you need help.
00:14:02The idea that states are able to do this is a little like saying we're going to turn civil
00:14:06rights back to the states, that each state have a different rule.
00:14:10Look, there's so many young women who have been, including a young woman who just was
00:14:13murdered and he went to the funeral.
00:14:17The idea that she was murdered by a by by an immigrant coming in to talk about that.
00:14:24But here's the deal.
00:14:25There's a lot of young women to be raped by their by their in-laws, by their by their
00:14:30spouses, brothers and sisters, by just it's just ridiculous.
00:14:35And they can do nothing about it.
00:14:37And they try to arrest them on the cross state line.
00:14:39Thank you.
00:14:40There have been many young women murdered by the same people he allows to come across
00:14:45our border.
00:14:47We have a border.
00:14:48That's the most dangerous place anywhere in the world.
00:14:50Consider the most dangerous place anywhere in the world.
00:14:53And he opened it up.
00:14:54And these killers are coming into our country and they are raping and killing women.
00:14:59And it's a terrible thing.
00:15:00As far as the abortion is concerned, it is now back with the states.
00:15:03The states are voting.
00:15:05In many cases, the it's frankly a very liberal decision.
00:15:08In many cases, it's the opposite.
00:15:10But they're voting and it's bringing it back to the vote of the people, which is what everybody
00:15:14wanted, including the founders, if they knew about this issue, which, frankly, they didn't.
00:15:19But they would have everybody wanted brought back.
00:15:22Ronald Reagan wanted it brought back.
00:15:24He wasn't able to get it.
00:15:26Everybody wanted it brought back.
00:15:27And many presidents had tried to get it back.
00:15:30I was the one to do it.
00:15:31And again, this gives it the vote of the people.
00:15:34And that's where they wanted it.
00:15:36Every legal scholar wanted it that way.
00:15:39Staying on the topic of abortion, President Biden, seven states.
00:15:43I'll let you do that.
00:15:44This is the same topic.
00:15:45Seven states have no legal restrictions on how far into a pregnancy a woman can obtain
00:15:51an abortion.
00:15:53Do you support any legal limits on how late a woman should be able to terminate a pregnancy?
00:15:57I support Roe v. Wade, which had three trimesters.
00:16:02First time is between the woman and the doctor.
00:16:04Second time is between the doctor and an extreme situation.
00:16:08The third time is between the doctor, I mean, between the woman and the state.
00:16:13The idea that the politicians, that the founders wanted the politicians to be the ones making
00:16:19decisions about a woman's health is ridiculous.
00:16:21That's the last.
00:16:22No politician should be making that decision.
00:16:24A doctor should be making those decisions.
00:16:26That's how it should be run.
00:16:28That's what you're going to do.
00:16:29And if I'm elected, I'm going to restore Roe v. Wade.
00:16:32So that means he can take the life of the baby in the ninth month and even after birth
00:16:38because some states, Democrat run, take it after birth.
00:16:41Again, the governor, former governor of Virginia, put the baby down, then we decide what to
00:16:45do with it.
00:16:46So he's he's willing to, as we say, rip the baby out of the womb in the ninth month and
00:16:51kill the baby.
00:16:53Nobody wants that to happen.
00:16:55Democrat or Republican, nobody wants it to happen.
00:16:58That is simply not true.
00:17:01The Roe v. Wade does not provide for that.
00:17:03That's not the circumstance.
00:17:04Only if a woman's life is in danger, she's going to die.
00:17:07That's the only circumstance in which that can happen.
00:17:09But we are not for late term abortion, period, period, period.
00:17:14Under Roe v. Wade, you have late term abortion.
00:17:17You can do whatever you want, depending on the state.
00:17:19You can do whatever you want.
00:17:20We don't think that's a good thing.
00:17:22We think it's a radical thing.
00:17:23We think the Democrats are the radicals, not the Republicans.
00:17:26For 51 years, that was the law.
00:17:2851 years, Constitutional Scholarship said it was the right way to go.
00:17:32Fifty one years and it was taken away because this guy put very conservative members on
00:17:36the Supreme Court.
00:17:37He takes credit for taking it away.
00:17:39What's he going to do?
00:17:40What's he going to do?
00:17:41In fact, if the if the MAGA Republicans, he gets elected and the MAGA Republicans control
00:17:46the Congress and they pass a universal ban on abortion, period, across the board at six
00:17:52weeks or seven or eight or 10 weeks, something very, very conservative.
00:17:55Is he going to sign that bill?
00:17:57I'll veto it.
00:17:58He'll sign it.
00:18:00Thank you.
00:18:01Let's turn now to the issue of immigration and border security.
00:18:03President Biden, a record number of migrants have illegally crossed the southern border
00:18:07on your watch, overwhelming border states and overburdening cities such as New York
00:18:12and Chicago, and in some cases causing real safety and security concerns.
00:18:17Given that, why should voters trust you to solve this crisis?
00:18:20Because we worked very hard to get a bipartisan agreement that not only changed all of that,
00:18:26but also made sure that we are in a situation where you had no circumstance where they could
00:18:30come across the border with the number of border police there are now.
00:18:34We significantly increased the number of asylum officers, significantly.
00:18:38By the way, the Border Patrol endorsed me, endorsed my position.
00:18:42In addition to that, we find ourselves in a situation where when he was president, he
00:18:45was taking, separating babies from their mothers, putting them in cages, making sure they were
00:18:51in the families were separated.
00:18:53That's not the right way to go.
00:18:55What I've done since I've changed the law, what's happened, I've changed it in a way
00:18:59that now you're in a situation where there are 40 percent fewer people coming across
00:19:04the border illegally.
00:19:05That's better than when he left office.
00:19:07And I'm going to continue to move until we get the total ban on the total initiative
00:19:13relative to what we can do with more Border Patrol and more asylum officers.
00:19:19President Trump?
00:19:20I really don't know what he said at the end of that sentence.
00:19:22I don't think he knows what he said either.
00:19:25We had the safest border in the history of our country.
00:19:28The board, all he had to do is leave it.
00:19:29All he had to do is leave it.
00:19:31He decided to open up our border, open up our country to people that are from prisons,
00:19:38people that are from mental institutions, insane asylum, terrorists.
00:19:42We have the largest number of terrorists coming into our country right now, all terrorists
00:19:46all over the world, not just in South America, all over the world.
00:19:49They come from the Middle East, everywhere, all over the world.
00:19:52They're pouring in.
00:19:53And this guy just left it open.
00:19:55And he didn't need legislation because I didn't have legislation.
00:19:58I said, close the border.
00:19:59We had the safest border in history in that final couple of months of my presidency.
00:20:04We had, according to Border Patrol, who is great.
00:20:07And by the way, who endorsed me for president, but I won't say that, but they endorsed me
00:20:11for president.
00:20:12Brandon, just speak to him.
00:20:14But look, we had the safest border in history.
00:20:17Now we have the worst border in history.
00:20:19There's never been anything like it.
00:20:20And people are dying all over the place, including the people that are coming up in
00:20:24caravans.
00:20:25Thank you, President Trump.
00:20:26President Biden?
00:20:27The only terrorist who's done anything crossing the border is one who came along and killed
00:20:31three in his administration, killed an al Qaeda person, come in and his administration, killed
00:20:37three American soldiers, killed three American soldiers.
00:20:42That's the only terrorist that's there.
00:20:43I'm not saying no terrorist ever got through with the idea.
00:20:46They're emptying their prisons.
00:20:47We're welcoming these people.
00:20:49It's simply not true.
00:20:51There's no data to support what he said.
00:20:52Once again, he's exaggerating.
00:20:54He's lying.
00:20:56President Trump, staying on the topic of immigration, you've said that you're going to carry out,
00:20:59quote, the largest domestic deportation operation in American history, unquote.
00:21:04Does that mean that you will deport every undocumented immigrant in America, including
00:21:08those who have jobs, including those whose spouses are citizens and including those who
00:21:13have lived here for decades?
00:21:14And if so, how will you do it?
00:21:17Just one second.
00:21:18He said we killed three people.
00:21:20The people we killed are al-Baghdadi and Salamani, the two greatest terrorists, biggest terrorists
00:21:25anywhere in the world.
00:21:26And it had a huge impact on everything, not just border on everything.
00:21:31He's the one that killed people with the bad water, including hundreds of thousands of
00:21:35people dying and also killing our citizens when they come in.
00:21:40We we are living right now in a rat's nest.
00:21:43They're killing our people in New York, in California and every state in the union because
00:21:48we don't have borders anymore.
00:21:50Every state is now a border.
00:21:52And because of his ridiculous, insane and very stupid policies, people are coming in
00:21:57and they're killing our citizens at a level that we've never seen.
00:22:01We call it migrant crime.
00:22:03I call it Biden migrant crime.
00:22:05They're killing our citizens at a level that we've never seen before.
00:22:09And you're reading it like these three incredible young girls over the last few days.
00:22:14One of them, I just spoke to the mother and he just had the funeral for this girl, 12
00:22:19years old.
00:22:20This is horrible.
00:22:21What's taken place, what's taken place in our country.
00:22:24We're literally an uncivilized country now.
00:22:28He doesn't want it to be.
00:22:29He just doesn't know.
00:22:30He opened the borders.
00:22:31Nobody's ever seen anything like.
00:22:33And we have to get a lot of these people out and we have to get them out fast because they're
00:22:37going to destroy our country.
00:22:38Just take a look at where they're living.
00:22:40They're living in luxury hotels in New York City and other places.
00:22:45Our veterans are on the street.
00:22:46They're dying because he doesn't care about our veterans.
00:22:48He doesn't care.
00:22:49He doesn't like the military at all.
00:22:51And he doesn't care about our veterans.
00:22:52Nobody been worse.
00:22:53I had the highest approval rating for veterans taking care of the VA.
00:22:58He has the worst.
00:22:59He's gotten rid of all the things that I approved choice that I got through Congress.
00:23:03All of the different things I approved, they abandoned.
00:23:06We had by far the highest and now it's down in less than half because he's done all these
00:23:11great things that we did.
00:23:12And I think he did it just because I approved it, which is crazy.
00:23:16But he has killed so many people at our border by all of these people to come in.
00:23:20President Biden, you have the mic.
00:23:23Every single thing he said is a lie.
00:23:25Every single one.
00:23:26For example, veterans are a hell of a lot better off since I passed the PACT Act.
00:23:31One million of them now have insurance and their families have it.
00:23:35And their families have it because what happened, whether it was Agent Orange or burn pits,
00:23:40they're all being covered now.
00:23:41And he opposed, his group opposed that.
00:23:43We're also in a situation where we have great respect for veterans.
00:23:47My son spent a year in Iraq, living next to one of those burn pits, came back with stage
00:23:52four glioblastoma.
00:23:53I was recently in France for D-Day.
00:23:58And I spoke all about those heroes that died.
00:24:01I went to the World War II cemetery, World War I cemetery he refused to go to.
00:24:05He was standing with his four-star general.
00:24:08And he told me, he said, I don't want to go in there because they're a bunch of losers
00:24:11and suckers.
00:24:12My son was not a loser, was not a sucker.
00:24:14You're the sucker.
00:24:15You're the loser.
00:24:16President Trump?
00:24:17First of all, that was a made up quote, suckers and losers.
00:24:20They made it up.
00:24:21It was in a third rate magazine that's failing, like many of these magazines.
00:24:25He made that up.
00:24:26He put it in commercials.
00:24:28We've notified him.
00:24:29We had 19 people that said I didn't say it.
00:24:31And think of this.
00:24:32Who would say I'm at a cemetery or I'm talking about our veterans because nobody's taking
00:24:37better care.
00:24:38I'm so glad this came up and he brought it up.
00:24:41There's nobody that's taken better care of our soldiers than I have to think that I would
00:24:46in front of generals and others say suckers and losers.
00:24:49We have 19 people that said it was never said by me.
00:24:53It was made up by him.
00:24:55Just like Russia, Russia, Russia was made up.
00:24:57Just like the 51 intelligence agents are made up.
00:25:01Just like the new thing with the 16 economists are talking.
00:25:04It's the same thing.
00:25:05Fifty one intelligence agents said that the laptop was Russia disinformation.
00:25:10It wasn't.
00:25:11That came from his son Hunter.
00:25:13It wasn't Russia disinformation.
00:25:15He made up the suckers and losers.
00:25:17So he should apologize to be right now.
00:25:20War star general stand your side was on your staff who said you said it period.
00:25:25That's number one.
00:25:26And number two, the idea, the idea that I have to apologize to you for anything along
00:25:31the line.
00:25:32We've done more for veterans than any president has in American history, American history.
00:25:37And they now are in their family.
00:25:38The only sacred obligation we have as a country is to care for our veterans when they come
00:25:42home and their families and equip them when they go to war.
00:25:46That's what we're doing.
00:25:47That's what the VA is doing now.
00:25:49They're doing more for veterans than ever before in our history.
00:25:52All right.
00:25:53Thank you so much.
00:25:54Let's move to the topic of foreign policy.
00:25:55I want to begin with Russia's war against Ukraine, which is now in its third year.
00:26:01Former President Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin says he'll only end this war
00:26:07if Russia keeps the Ukrainian territory it has already claimed and Ukraine abandons its
00:26:13bid to join NATO.
00:26:16Are Putin's terms acceptable to you?
00:26:18First of all, our veterans and our soldiers can't stand this guy.
00:26:23They can't stand him.
00:26:25They think he's the worst commander in chief, if that's what you call him, that we've ever
00:26:29had.
00:26:30They can't stand him.
00:26:31So let's get that straight.
00:26:32And they like me more than just about any of them.
00:26:35And that's based on every single bit of information.
00:26:38As far as Russia and Ukraine, if we had a real president, the president that knew that
00:26:43was respected by Putin, he would have never he would have never invaded Ukraine.
00:26:48A lot of people are dead right now, much more than people know.
00:26:51You know, they talk about numbers.
00:26:52You can double those numbers, maybe triple those numbers.
00:26:55He did nothing to stop it.
00:26:57In fact, I think he encouraged Russia from going in.
00:26:59I'll tell you what happened.
00:27:00He was so bad with Afghanistan.
00:27:02It was such a horrible embarrassment, most embarrassing moment in the history of our
00:27:06country that when Putin watched that and he saw the incompetence that he should he should
00:27:11have fired those generals like I fired the one that you mentioned.
00:27:14And so he's got no love lost, but he should have fired those generals.
00:27:18No general got fired for the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country, Afghanistan,
00:27:24where we left billions of dollars of equipment behind.
00:27:27We lost 13 beautiful soldiers and 38 soldiers were obliterated.
00:27:32And by the way, we left people behind, too.
00:27:33We left American citizens behind.
00:27:35When Putin saw that, he said, you know what?
00:27:38I think we're going to go in and maybe take my.
00:27:41This was his dream.
00:27:42I talked to him about his dream.
00:27:44The difference is he never would have invaded Ukraine, never just like Israel would have
00:27:50never been invaded in a million years by Hamas.
00:27:55You know why?
00:27:56Because Iran was broke with me.
00:27:58I wouldn't let anybody do business with them.
00:28:00They ran out of money.
00:28:01They were broke.
00:28:02They had no money for Hamas.
00:28:03They had no money for anything, no money for terror.
00:28:06That's why you had no terror at all during my administration.
00:28:10This place, the whole world is blowing up under him.
00:28:14President Biden.
00:28:15I've never heard so much malarkey in my whole life.
00:28:17Look, the fact of the matter is that we're in a situation where let's take the last point
00:28:21first.
00:28:22Iran attacked American troops, kill or cause brain damage for a number of these troops.
00:28:29And he did nothing about it recently when he was president there.
00:28:32They attacked.
00:28:33He said they're just having headaches.
00:28:35That's all it is.
00:28:36We didn't do a thing when the attack took place.
00:28:39Number two, we got over 100,000 Americans and others out of Afghanistan during that
00:28:47airlift.
00:28:48Number three, we found ourselves in a situation where if you take a look at what Trump did
00:28:53in Ukraine, this guy told Ukraine, told Trump, do whatever you want and do whatever you want.
00:29:00And that's exactly what Trump did to encourage him.
00:29:04Do whatever you want.
00:29:05And he went in.
00:29:06Listen to what he said when he went in.
00:29:08He was going to take Kiev in five days, remember, because it's part of the old Soviet Union.
00:29:12That's what he wanted to reestablish, Kiev.
00:29:15And he, in fact, didn't do it at all.
00:29:17He didn't, wasn't able to get it done.
00:29:19And they've lost over, they've lost thousands and thousands of troops, 500,000 troops.
00:29:25President Trump, I never said that for one minute.
00:29:27I just want to go back to my original question, which is, are Putin's terms acceptable to
00:29:32you?
00:29:33Keeping the territory in Ukraine?
00:29:34No, they're not acceptable.
00:29:37But look, this is a war that never should have started.
00:29:39If we had a leader in this war, he led everybody along.
00:29:43He's given $200 billion now or more to Ukraine.
00:29:47He's given $200 billion.
00:29:49That's a lot of money.
00:29:50I don't think there's ever been anything like it.
00:29:52Every time that Zelensky comes to this country, he walks away with $60 billion.
00:29:56He's the greatest salesman ever.
00:29:58And I'm not knocking him.
00:29:59I'm not knocking anything.
00:30:00I'm only saying the money that we're spending on this war, and we shouldn't be spending
00:30:06it.
00:30:07It should have never happened.
00:30:08I will have that war settled between Putin and Zelensky as president-elect before I take
00:30:15office on January 20th.
00:30:16I'll have that war settled.
00:30:18People being killed so needlessly, so stupidly.
00:30:22And I will get it settled, and I'll get it settled fast before I take office.
00:30:26President Biden, you have a minute.
00:30:29The fact is that Putin is a war criminal.
00:30:32He's killed thousands and thousands of people.
00:30:35And he has made one thing clear.
00:30:37He wants to reestablish what was part of the Soviet empire, not just a peace.
00:30:42He wants all of Ukraine.
00:30:44That's what he wants.
00:30:45And then do you think he'll stop there?
00:30:46Do you think he'll stop when he, if he takes Ukraine?
00:30:50What do you think happens to Poland?
00:30:51What do you think of Belarus?
00:30:52What do you think happens to those NATO countries?
00:30:55And so if you want a war, you ought to find out what he's going to do.
00:30:59Because if, in fact, he does what he says and walks away, by the way, all that money
00:31:04we give Ukraine and from weapons we make here in the United States, we give them the weapons,
00:31:08not the money at this point.
00:31:10And our NATO allies have produced as much funding for Ukraine as we have.
00:31:16That's why it's, that's why we're strong.
00:31:19Thank you.
00:31:20Moving on to the Middle East.
00:31:21In October, Hamas attacked Israel, killing more than a thousand people and taking hundreds
00:31:26of hostages.
00:31:28Among those held and thought to still be alive are five Americans.
00:31:32Israel's response has killed thousands of Palestinians and created a humanitarian crisis
00:31:37in Gaza.
00:31:38President Biden, you've put forward a proposal to resolve this conflict.
00:31:44But so far, Hamas has not released the remaining hostages and Israel is continuing its military
00:31:50offensive in Gaza.
00:31:52So what additional leverage will you use to get Hamas and Israel to end the war?
00:31:58You have two minutes.
00:31:59Number one, everyone from the United Nations Security Council straight through to the G7,
00:32:07to the Israelis and Netanyahu himself have endorsed the plan I put forward, endorsed
00:32:11the plan I put forward, which has three stages to it.
00:32:14The first stage is trade the hostages for a ceasefire.
00:32:19The second phase is a ceasefire with additional conditions.
00:32:22The third phase is no, the end of the war.
00:32:25The only one who wants the war to continue is Hamas, number one.
00:32:28They're the only one standing out.
00:32:30We're still pushing hard from, to get them to accept.
00:32:33In the meantime, what's happened?
00:32:36In Israel, we're finding that the only thing I've denied Israel was 2,000 pound bombs.
00:32:41They don't work very well in populated areas.
00:32:43They kill a lot of innocent people.
00:32:45We're providing Israel with all the weapons they need and when they need them.
00:32:48And by the way, I'm the guy that organized the world against Iran when they had a full
00:32:53blown intercontinental ballistic missile attack on Israel.
00:32:58No one was hurt.
00:33:00One Israeli was accidentally killed and it stopped.
00:33:04We saved Israel.
00:33:05We are the biggest producer of support for Israel of anyone in the world.
00:33:10And so that's, there are two different things.
00:33:12Hamas cannot be allowed to be continued.
00:33:15We continue to send our experts and our intelligence people as to how they can get Hamas like we
00:33:20did bin Laden.
00:33:21You don't have to do it.
00:33:23And by the way, they've been greatly weakened Hamas, greatly weakened, and they should be,
00:33:27they should be eliminated.
00:33:29But you've got to be careful for what using certain weapons among population centers.
00:33:34Just going back to Ukraine for one second.
00:33:39We have an ocean separating us.
00:33:41The European nations together have spent a hundred billion or maybe more than that, less
00:33:47than us.
00:33:49Why doesn't he call them?
00:33:50So you got to put up your money like I did with NATO.
00:33:52I got them to put up hundreds of billions of dollars.
00:33:55The secretary general of NATO said Trump did the most incredible job I've ever seen.
00:33:59You wouldn't, they wouldn't have any, they were going out of business.
00:34:02We were spending almost a hundred percent of the money was, it was paid by us.
00:34:06He didn't do that.
00:34:08He's getting all, you got to ask these people to put up the money.
00:34:11They're over a hundred billion dollars more spent and it has a bigger impact on them because
00:34:16of location, because we have an ocean in between.
00:34:19You got to ask him as far as Israel and, and Hamas, Israel is the one that wants to go.
00:34:25He said the only one who wants to keep going is Hamas.
00:34:28Actually Israel is the one and you should let him go and let him finish the job.
00:34:31He doesn't want to do it.
00:34:32He's become like a Palestinian, but they don't like him because he's a very bad Palestinian.
00:34:37He's a weak one.
00:34:39President Biden, you have a minute.
00:34:40I've never heard so much foolishness.
00:34:42This is a guy who wants to get out of NATO.
00:34:44You're going to stay in NATO?
00:34:45He's going to pull out of NATO.
00:34:47The idea that we have, our strength lies in our alliances as well.
00:34:51It may be a big ocean, but if we're able to avoid a war in Europe, a major war in Europe,
00:34:57what happens if in fact you have Putin continue to go into, into NATO?
00:35:01We have an article five agreement, attack on one is attack on all.
00:35:05You want to start the nuclear war he keeps talking about, go ahead, let Putin go in and
00:35:09control Ukraine and then move on to Poland and other places.
00:35:13See what happens then.
00:35:15He has no idea what the hell he's talking about.
00:35:17And by the way, I got 50 other nations around the world to support Ukraine, including Japan
00:35:23and South Korea, because they understand that this was this, this kind of dislocation as
00:35:28a serious threat to the whole world peace.
00:35:31No major war in Europe has ever been able to be contained just to Europe.
00:35:36President Trump, just to follow up, would you support the creation of an independent
00:35:40Palestinian state in order to achieve peace in the region?
00:35:43I'd have to see.
00:35:44But before we do that, the problem we have is that we spend all the money so they kill
00:35:49us on trade.
00:35:50I made great trade deals with the European nations because if you add them up, they're
00:35:54about the same size economically.
00:35:57Their economy is about the same size as the United States.
00:36:00And they were written, no cars, no, they don't want anything that we have, but we're supposed
00:36:04to take their cars, their food, their everything, their agriculture.
00:36:07I changed that.
00:36:09But the big thing I change is they don't want to pay.
00:36:11And the only reason that he can play games with NATO is because I got them to put up
00:36:17hundreds of billions of dollars.
00:36:18I said, and he's right about this.
00:36:20I said, no, I'm not going to support NATO if you don't pay.
00:36:24They asked me that question.
00:36:25Would you guard us against Russia at a very secret meeting of the 28 states at that time,
00:36:32nations at that time?
00:36:34And I said, no, if you don't pay, I won't do that.
00:36:36And you know what happened?
00:36:38Billions and billions of dollars came flowing in the next day and the next months.
00:36:42But now we're in the same position.
00:36:44We're paying everybody's bills.
00:36:46Let's turn to the issue of democracy.
00:36:48Former President Trump, I want to ask you about January 6th, 2021.
00:36:53After you rallied your supporters that day, some of them stormed the Capitol to stop the
00:36:57constitutionally mandated counting of electoral votes.
00:37:00As president, you swore an oath to quote, preserve, protect and defend unquote the constitution.
00:37:06What do you say to voters who believe that you violated that oath through your actions
00:37:10and inaction on January 6th and worry that you'll do it again?
00:37:13Well, I don't think too many believe that.
00:37:14And let me tell you about January 6th.
00:37:17On January 6th, we had a great border, nobody coming through very few.
00:37:22On January 6th, we were energy independent.
00:37:24On January 6th, we had the lowest taxes ever.
00:37:27We had the lowest regulations ever.
00:37:29On January 6th, we were respected all over the world, all over the world.
00:37:33We were respected.
00:37:35And then he comes in and we're now left that we're like a bunch of stupid people that what
00:37:40happened to the United States is reputation under this man's leadership is horrible, including
00:37:47weaponization, which I'm sure at some point you'll be talking about where he goes after
00:37:51his political opponent because he can't beat him fair and square.
00:37:54You have 80 seconds left.
00:37:56My question was, what do you say to those voters who believe that you violated your
00:38:00constitutional oath through your actions and inaction on January 6th, 2021, and worry that
00:38:05you'll do it again?
00:38:06Well, I didn't say that to anybody.
00:38:08I said peacefully and patriotically.
00:38:11And Nancy Pelosi, if you just watched the news from two days ago on tape to her daughter,
00:38:16who's a documentary filmmaker, they say what she's saying, oh, no, it's my responsibility.
00:38:22I was responsible for this because I offered her 10,000 soldiers or National Guard, and
00:38:28she turned them down.
00:38:29And the mayor of in writing, by the way, the mayor in writing turned it down.
00:38:33The mayor of D.C.
00:38:35They turned it down.
00:38:36I offered 10,000 because I could see I had virtually nothing to do.
00:38:41They asked me to go make a speech.
00:38:43I could see what was happening.
00:38:44Everybody was saying they're going to be there on January 6th.
00:38:46They're going to be there.
00:38:47And I said, you know what?
00:38:48There's a lot of people coming.
00:38:49You could feel it.
00:38:50You could feel it.
00:38:51I could feel it, too.
00:38:52And you could feel it.
00:38:53And I said they ought to have some National Guard or whatever.
00:38:57And I offered it to her.
00:38:58And she now admits that she turned it down.
00:39:01And it was the same day she was.
00:39:03I don't know.
00:39:04He can't be very happy with her daughter because it made her into a liar.
00:39:07She said, I take full responsibility for January 6th.
00:39:12President Biden.
00:39:13Look, he encouraged those folks to go up on Capitol Hill.
00:39:17Number one, I sat in a dining room off the Oval Office.
00:39:21He sat there for three hours.
00:39:22Three hours watching, begging, being begged by his vice president and a number of his
00:39:27colleagues on the Republican side as well to do something, to call for a stop, to end
00:39:32it.
00:39:33Instead, he talked, they talked about these people being patriots and great patrons of
00:39:37America.
00:39:38In fact, he says he'll now forgive them for what they've done.
00:39:42They've been convicted.
00:39:43He says he wants to commute their sentences and say that no.
00:39:48He went to every single court in the nation.
00:39:51I don't know how many cases, scores of cases, including the Supreme Court.
00:39:55And they said, they said, no, no, this guy, this guy is responsible for doing what is
00:40:01being was done.
00:40:02He did do a damn thing.
00:40:04And these people should be in jail.
00:40:06And they should be the ones who are being held accountable.
00:40:09And he wants to let them all out.
00:40:11And now he says if he loses again, such a whiner that he is, that it could be a bloodbath.
00:40:16Thank you, President Biden.
00:40:17President Trump.
00:40:18What they've done to some people that are so innocent, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.
00:40:23What you have done, how you've destroyed the lives of so many people.
00:40:27When they ripped down Portland, when they ripped down many other cities, you go to Minnesota,
00:40:34Minneapolis, what they've done there with the fires all over the city.
00:40:38If I didn't bring in the National Guard, that city would have been destroyed.
00:40:41When you look at all of the they took over big chunks of Seattle, I was all set to bring
00:40:46in the National Guard.
00:40:48They heard that they saw them coming and they left immediately.
00:40:51What he said about this whole subject is so off, peacefully patriotic.
00:40:56One other thing.
00:40:58The unselect committee, which is basically two horrible Republicans that are all gone
00:41:04now out of office and Democrats, all Democrats, they destroyed and deleted all of the information
00:41:11they found because they found out we were right.
00:41:13We were right.
00:41:15And they deleted and destroyed all of the information.
00:41:18They should go to jail for that.
00:41:19If a Republican did that, they'd go to thank you, President Trump, President Biden.
00:41:22I want to give you a minute.
00:41:23The only person in this stage is a convicted felon is the man I'm looking at right now.
00:41:28And the fact of the matter is, he isn't he's what he's telling you is simply not true.
00:41:32The fact is that there was no effort on his part to stop what was going on up in Capitol
00:41:38Hill.
00:41:39And all those people, every one of those who were convicted, deserves to be convicted.
00:41:43The idea that they didn't kill somebody, just went in and broke down doors, broke the
00:41:48windows, occupied offices, turned over desks, turned them over statutes.
00:41:53The idea that those people are patriots?
00:41:57Come on.
00:41:58When I asked him the first two debates we had, the debates we had first time around,
00:42:02I said, will you denounce the Proud Boys?
00:42:05He said, no, I'll tell them to stand by.
00:42:08The idea he's refusing, will you denounce these guys?
00:42:12You denounce the people we're talking about now?
00:42:14You denounce the people who attacked that Capitol?
00:42:17What are you going to do?
00:42:19I'm going to give you a minute, President Trump, for a follow up question I have.
00:42:25After a jury convicted you of 34 felonies last month, you said if reelected, you would
00:42:30quote, have every right to go after, unquote, your political opponents.
00:42:34You just talked about members of the Select Committee on January 6th going to jail.
00:42:38Your main political opponent is standing on stage with you tonight.
00:42:42Can you clarify exactly what it means about you feeling you have every right to go after
00:42:45your political opponents?
00:42:46Well, I said my retribution is going to be success.
00:42:49We're going to make this country successful again, because right now it's a failing nation.
00:42:53My retribution is going to be success.
00:42:56But when he talks about a convicted felon, his son is a convicted felon at a very high
00:43:00level.
00:43:01His son is convicted, going to be convicted probably numerous other times.
00:43:04Should have been convicted before, but his Justice Department let the statute of limitations
00:43:09lapse on the most important things.
00:43:12But he could be a convicted felon as soon as he gets out of office.
00:43:14Joe could be a convicted felon with all of the things that he's done.
00:43:17He's done horrible things.
00:43:19All of the death cause at the border, telling the Ukrainian people that we're going to want
00:43:24a billion dollars.
00:43:25You change the prosecutor.
00:43:26Otherwise, you're not getting a billion dollars.
00:43:28If I ever said that, that's quid pro quo, that we're not going to do anything.
00:43:34We're not going to give you a billion dollars unless you change your prosecutor having to
00:43:37do with the son.
00:43:38This man is a criminal.
00:43:40This man, you're lucky.
00:43:41You're lucky.
00:43:42I did nothing wrong.
00:43:43We'd have a system that was rigged and disgusting.
00:43:46I did nothing wrong.
00:43:47Thank you, President Trump.
00:43:48President Biden, you have said, I'm coming right to you, sir.
00:43:51You well, you want to respond?
00:43:52Go ahead.
00:43:53I'll give you a minute to respond.
00:43:54The idea that I did anything wrong relative to what you're talking about is outrageous.
00:44:00It's simply a lie.
00:44:01Number one.
00:44:02Number two, the idea that you have a right to seek retribution against any American just
00:44:07because your president is wrong is simply wrong.
00:44:10No president's ever spoken like that before.
00:44:12No president in our history has spoken like that before.
00:44:15Number three, the crimes that you are still charged with, and think of all the civil penalties
00:44:20you have.
00:44:21How many billions of dollars do you owe in civil penalties for molesting a woman in public,
00:44:26for doing a whole range of things, of having sex with a porn star on the night while your
00:44:32wife was pregnant?
00:44:33I mean, what are you talking about?
00:44:36You have the morals of an alley cat.
00:44:38Give him a minute, sir.
00:44:40I didn't have sex with a porn star.
00:44:42Number one.
00:44:43Number two, that was a case that was started and moved.
00:44:46They moved a high ranking official, a DOJ, into the Manhattan DA's office to start that
00:44:51case.
00:44:52That case is going to be appealed and won.
00:44:54We had a very terrible judge, a horrible judge, Democrat.
00:44:59The prosecutor were all high ranking Democrats, appointed people.
00:45:03And both the civil and the criminal.
00:45:07He basically went after his political opponent because he thought it was going to damage
00:45:11me.
00:45:12But when the public found out about these cases, because they understand it better than
00:45:15he does, he has no idea what these cases are.
00:45:17But when they found out about these cases, you know what they did?
00:45:20My poll numbers went up way up.
00:45:22You know that because you're reporting it.
00:45:23And we took in more money in the last two weeks than we've ever taken in in the history
00:45:28of any campaign.
00:45:29I don't think any campaign has ever taken hundreds of millions of dollars came pouring
00:45:34in because the public knows it's a scam.
00:45:37And it's a guy that's after his political opponent because he can't win fair and square.
00:45:41Thank you, President Trump.
00:45:42President Biden, you have said, quote, Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans are determined
00:45:47to destroy American democracy.
00:45:50Do you believe that the tens of millions of Americans who are likely to vote for President
00:45:54Trump will be voting against American democracy?
00:45:57The more they know about what he's done, yes, the more they know about what he's done.
00:46:03And there's a lot more coming.
00:46:04He's got a lot of cases down the road coming around.
00:46:06He's got he's got a whole range of issues he has to face.
00:46:10I don't know what the juries will do, but I do and I do know he has a real problem.
00:46:14And so the fact that could you ever think you hear any president say that I'm going
00:46:19to seek retribution?
00:46:20Do you ever hear any president say that I thought Hitler had some good ideas?
00:46:24What got me involved to run the first place after my son had died, I decided in Iraq because
00:46:29of Iraq.
00:46:30I said I wasn't going to run again until I saw what happened in Charlottesville, Virginia.
00:46:34People coming out of the woods carrying swastikas on torches, torches and and singing the same
00:46:40anti-Semitic bio they sang when back in Germany.
00:46:44And what did and the young woman got killed.
00:46:46I spoke to the mother and she they asked him, they said, what what do you think of those
00:46:51people?
00:46:52What do you think of the people who wanted to get killed, the one who tried to stop it?
00:46:54And the one he said, I think they're fine people on both sides.
00:46:58What American president would ever say Nazis coming out of fields, carrying torches, singing
00:47:05the same anti-Semitic bio, carrying swastikas were fine people.
00:47:10This is a guy who says Hitler has done some good things.
00:47:12I'd like to know what they are, the good things Hitler has done.
00:47:15That's what he said.
00:47:16This guy has no sense of American democracy.
00:47:20President Trump.
00:47:21I think both of you know that story has been totally wiped out because when you see the
00:47:25sentence, it said 100 percent exoneration on that.
00:47:29So he just keeps it going.
00:47:30He says he ran because of Charlottesville.
00:47:32He didn't run because of Charlottesville.
00:47:34He ran because it was his last chance.
00:47:37He's not equipped to be president.
00:47:38You know it.
00:47:39And I know it is ridiculous.
00:47:40We have a debate.
00:47:41We're trying to justify his presidency, his presidency, his without question, the worst
00:47:47president, the worst presidency in the history of our country.
00:47:51We shouldn't be having a debate about it.
00:47:53There's nothing to debate.
00:47:54He made up the Charlottesville story.
00:47:56And you'll see it's debunked all over the place.
00:47:59Every anchor has to.
00:48:00Every reasonable actor has debunked it.
00:48:03And just the other day it came out where it was fully debunked.
00:48:07It's a nonsense story.
00:48:08He knows that.
00:48:09And he didn't run because of Charlottesville.
00:48:11He used that as an excuse to run President Biden and debunk it happened.
00:48:16All you have to do is listen to what was said at the time.
00:48:19And the idea that somehow that's the only reason I ran, I ran because I was worried
00:48:23a guy like this guy could get elected.
00:48:25If he thought they were good people coming out of that forest, carrying those woods,
00:48:31carrying those torches, then he didn't deserve to be president, didn't deserve to be president
00:48:35at all.
00:48:36And the idea that he's talking about, all this being fabricated, we saw it with our
00:48:40own eyes.
00:48:41We saw what happened on January 6th.
00:48:43We saw the people breaking through the windows.
00:48:45We saw people occupying their — his own vice president.
00:48:47Look, there's a reason why 40 of his 44 top Cabinet officers refused to endorse him this
00:48:54time.
00:48:55His vice president hasn't endorsed him this time.
00:48:57So why?
00:48:58Why?
00:48:59They know him well.
00:49:00They serve with him.
00:49:01Why are they not endorsing him?
00:49:02Thank you, President Biden.
00:49:03We're going to be right back with more from the CNN presidential debate.
00:49:15The House will be in order.
00:49:23This year, C-SPAN celebrates 45 years of covering Congress like no other.
00:49:28Since 1979, we've been your primary source for Capitol health, providing balanced, unfiltered
00:49:33coverage of government, taking you to where the policies debated and decided, all with
00:49:38the support of America's cable companies.
00:49:41C-SPAN, 45 years and counting.
00:49:44Covered by cable.
00:49:45We'll welcome them into a great national crusade to make America great again.
00:49:52Is that our dream has been earned for progress and for peace.
00:49:58Taxes will go up.
00:50:00And anyone who says they won't is not telling the truth.
00:50:05With our beloved nation at peace, we're in the midst of a springtime of hope for America.
00:50:10Because we are the party that believes in the American dream.
00:50:15Read my lips.
00:50:21I still believe in a place called hope.
00:50:26But here's the question for the American people.
00:50:29Who do you trust in this election?
00:50:31The real choice is whether we will build a bridge to the future or a bridge to the past.
00:50:36I have unlimited confidence in the wisdom of our people and the future of our country.
00:50:42I stand here tonight as my own man.
00:50:44And I want you to know me for who I truly am.
00:50:48They had their chance.
00:50:50They have not led.
00:50:51We will.
00:50:52I'm John Kerry, and I'm reporting for duty.
00:50:58These four years have brought moments I could not foresee and will not forget.
00:51:02It's time for us to change America.
00:51:06I wasn't my own man anymore.
00:51:09I was my country's.
00:51:10I don't believe that rolling back regulations on Wall Street will help the small businesswoman
00:51:15expand or the laid-off construction worker keep his home.
00:51:19We have been there.
00:51:20We've tried that.
00:51:21And we're not going back.
00:51:23We are moving forward, America.
00:51:25Under my administration, our friends will see more loyalty.
00:51:28And Mr. Putin will see a little less flexibility and more backbone.
00:51:33If he wants to make America great again, well, he could start by actually making things in
00:51:38America again.
00:51:40We will make America safe again.
00:51:46And we will make America great again.
00:51:51Here and now, I give you my word.
00:51:53If you entrust me with the presidency, I will draw on the best of us, not the worst.
00:52:00This towering American spirit has prevailed over every challenge and lifted us to the
00:52:06summit of human endeavor.
00:52:10Watch C-SPAN's Campaign 2024 live coverage of the Republican National Convention starting
00:52:15July 15th and the Democratic National Convention beginning August 19th.
00:52:20C-SPAN, your unfiltered view of the conventions, powered by cable.
00:52:31And in just a moment, our simulcast of the CNN presidential debate between President Biden and
00:52:38former President Trump will resume.
00:52:40This is happening live from CNN studios in Atlanta.
00:52:52Welcome back to the CNN presidential debate live from Georgia.
00:52:57Let's talk about persistent challenges.
00:52:59You both faced in your first terms and you'd certainly face again in a second term.
00:53:04President Biden, while black unemployment dropped to a record low under your presidency,
00:53:10black families still earn far less than white families.
00:53:14Black mothers are still three times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes.
00:53:20And black Americans are imprisoned at five times the rate of white Americans.
00:53:25What do you say to black voters who are disappointed that you haven't made more progress?
00:53:30They acknowledge they made a lot of progress.
00:53:32Number one, the fact of the matter is more small black businesses that have been started at any time in history.
00:53:38Number two, the wages of black unemployment is the lowest level it's been in a long, long time.
00:53:44Number three, we find them trying to find housing for black Americans and dealing with the
00:53:50segregation that exists among these corporate corporations that collude to keep people out of their houses.
00:53:59And in addition to that, we find that the impact of on the
00:54:07choice that black families have to make relative to child care is incredibly difficult.
00:54:14When we did the first major piece of legislation in the past, I was able to reduce black child care costs, cut them in half, in half.
00:54:23We've got to make sure we provide for child care costs.
00:54:25We've got to make sure because when you provide those child care protections, you increase economic growth because more people can be in the job market.
00:54:34So there is more to be done, considerably more to be done.
00:54:38But we've done a great deal so far and I'm not letting up and they know it.
00:54:42You have 49 seconds left.
00:54:44What do you say to black voters who are disappointed with the progress so far?
00:54:49I say I don't blame them for being disappointed.
00:54:51Inflation is still hurting them badly.
00:54:53For example, I provided for the idea that any black family first time homebuyer should get a $10,000 tax credit to be able to buy their first home so they can get started.
00:55:04I made sure that we're in a situation where all those black families and those black individuals who provided had to take out student loans that were ballooning.
00:55:14That if they were engaged in nursing and anything having to do with volunteerism, if they paid their bills for 10 years on their student debt, all the rest was forgiven after 10 years.
00:55:26Millions have benefited from that.
00:55:28And we're going to do a whole lot more for black families.
00:55:32Thank you, President Trump.
00:55:33And he caused the inflation.
00:55:35He's blaming inflation.
00:55:37And he's right.
00:55:37It's been very bad.
00:55:39He caused the inflation and it's killing black families and Hispanic families and just about everybody.
00:55:44It's killing people.
00:55:45They can't buy groceries anymore.
00:55:47They can't.
00:55:48You look at the cost of food where it's doubled and tripled and quadrupled.
00:55:52They can't live.
00:55:53They're not living anymore.
00:55:55He caused this inflation.
00:55:57I gave him a country with no essentially no inflation.
00:56:01It was perfect.
00:56:02It was so good.
00:56:02All he had to do is leave it alone.
00:56:04He destroyed it with his green new scam and all of the other all this money that's being thrown out the window.
00:56:10He caused inflation.
00:56:12As sure as you're sitting there, the fact is that his big kill on the black people is the millions of people that he's allowed to come in through the border.
00:56:22They're taking black jobs now.
00:56:24And it could be 18.
00:56:25It could be 19 and even 20 million people.
00:56:28They're taking black jobs and they're taking Hispanic jobs.
00:56:31And you haven't seen it yet, but you're going to see something that's going to be the worst in our history.
00:56:36Thank you.
00:56:36President Biden, there was no inflation when I became president.
00:56:41You know why?
00:56:42The economy was flat on its back.
00:56:44Fifty percent unemployment.
00:56:46He decimated the economy, absolutely decimated the economy.
00:56:49That's why there was no inflation at the time.
00:56:52There were no jobs.
00:56:53We provided thousands of millions of jobs for individuals who are involved communities, including minority communities.
00:56:59We made sure that they have health insurance.
00:57:01We have covered the ACA has increased.
00:57:04I made sure that there are eight thousand dollars per person in the family to get written off for health care.
00:57:11But this guy wants to eliminate that.
00:57:12They tried 50 times.
00:57:13He wants to get rid of the ACA again and they're going to try again if they win.
00:57:18You find ourselves in a position where the idea that we're not doing it.
00:57:22I put more.
00:57:23We put more police on the street than any administration has.
00:57:27He wants to cut the cops.
00:57:29We're providing for equity, equity and making sure people have a shot to make it.
00:57:34There's a lot going on.
00:57:36But in inflation, he caused it by his tremendous mouth fees in the way he handled the pandemic.
00:57:43Thank you. Another persistent challenge is the climate crisis.
00:57:47Twenty twenty three was the hottest year in recorded history and communities across the country are confronting the devastating effects of extreme heat,
00:57:56intensifying wildfires, stronger hurricanes and rising sea levels.
00:58:01Former President Trump, you've vowed to end your opponent's climate initiatives.
00:58:05But will you take any action as president to slow the climate crisis?
00:58:10Let me just go back to what he said about the police, how close the police are to him.
00:58:16Almost every police group in the nation from every state is supporting Donald J.
00:58:22Trump, almost every police group.
00:58:24And what he's done to the black population is horrible, including the fact that for 10 years he called them super predators.
00:58:30We can't in the 1990s. We can't forget that super predators was his name.
00:58:35And he called it to him and they've taken great offense at it.
00:58:37And now they see it happening. But when they see what I did for criminal justice reform and for the historically black colleges and universities where I funded them and got them all funded and the opportunity zones with with Tim, as you know, Tim Scott was incredible.
00:58:54He did a great job. Great senator from South Carolina.
00:58:57He came to me with the idea and it was a great idea.
00:58:59It's one of the most successful economic development acts ever in the country.
00:59:03Opportunity zones and the biggest beneficiary are blacks.
00:59:07And that's why we have the best numbers with them in maybe ever.
00:59:12They're saying ever. I read this morning where ever the best numbers he's lost much of the black population because he's done a horrible job for black people.
00:59:22He's also done a horrible job for Hispanics.
00:59:25But when you see these millions of people pouring into our country and they're going to take the jobs and it's already started and you haven't seen anything yet, it's a disaster.
00:59:34You've 38 seconds left.
00:59:36President Trump, will you take any action as president to slow the climate crisis?
00:59:41So I want absolutely immaculate, clean water and I want absolutely clean air.
00:59:47And we had it. We had H2O.
00:59:50We had the best numbers ever.
00:59:52And we did. We were using all forms of energy, all forms, everything.
00:59:58And yet, during my four years, I had the best environmental numbers ever.
01:00:03And my top environmental people gave me that statistic just before I walked on the stage, actually.
01:00:10I don't know where the hell he's been.
01:00:12The idea that he said is true.
01:00:15I passed the most extensive, most extensive climate change legislation in history, in history.
01:00:22We find ourselves, and by the way, black colleges, I came up with $15 billion for HBCUs, Historic Black Universities and Colleges,
01:00:31because they don't have those. They don't have the kind of contributors that they have to build these laboratories and the like.
01:00:38Any black student is capable in college of doing what any white student can do.
01:00:42They just have the money, but now they'll be able to get those jobs in high tech.
01:00:46We're in a situation where the idea that he is claiming to have done something that had the cleanest water, the cleanest water.
01:00:55He hadn't done a damn thing with the environment.
01:00:57He pulled out of the Paris Peace Accord, Climate Accord.
01:01:00I immediately joined it because if we reach 1.5 degrees Celsius at any one point, there's no way back.
01:01:07The only existential threat to humanity is climate change, and he didn't do a damn thing about it.
01:01:12He wants to undo all that I've done.
01:01:15The Paris Accord was going to cost us a trillion dollars and China nothing and Russia nothing and India nothing.
01:01:22It was a rip off of the United States.
01:01:25And I ended it because I didn't want to waste that money because they treat us horribly.
01:01:29We were the only ones who was costing us money.
01:01:31Nobody else was paying into it.
01:01:33And it was a it was a disaster.
01:01:35But everything that he said just now, I'll give you an example.
01:01:38I heard him say before insulin.
01:01:39I'm the one that got the insulin down for the seniors.
01:01:42I took care of the seniors.
01:01:44What he's doing is destroying all of our medical programs because the migrants coming in, they want everybody.
01:01:50And look, I have the I have the biggest heart on the stage.
01:01:53I guarantee you that. And I want to take care of people.
01:01:55But we're destroying our country.
01:01:57They're taking over our schools, our hospitals, and they're going to be taking over Social Security.
01:02:02He is destroying Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
01:02:09The idea is that we, in fact, we were the only ones of consequence.
01:02:15We're not we're not members of the Paris accord.
01:02:19How can we do anything?
01:02:20We've not able to. The United States can't get this under control.
01:02:24One of the largest polluters in the world.
01:02:26Number one, we're making significant progress.
01:02:28By 2035, we will have cut pollution in half.
01:02:31We have made we have made significant progress and we're continuing to make progress.
01:02:36We set up a climate corps for thousands of young people will learn how to deal with just like the Peace Corps.
01:02:42And we're going to we're moving in directions that are going to significantly change the elements of cause of pollution.
01:02:48But the idea that he claims that he has the biggest heart up here and he's really concerned about about pollution and about climate.
01:02:58I've not seen any indication of that.
01:03:00And by the way, with regard to prescription drugs, one company agreed that they would reduce the price to thirty five dollars, which I was calling for one voluntarily.
01:03:11I made sure every company in the world, every pharmaceutical company cannot have to pay you.
01:03:16And by the way. So every day, millions of Americans struggle just to make ends meet.
01:03:23For many older Americans, Social Security provides a critical lifeline.
01:03:27President Biden, if nothing is done to Social Security, seniors will see their benefits cut in just over 10 years.
01:03:35Will you name tonight one specific step that you're willing to take to keep Social Security solvent?
01:03:40Yes. Make the very wealthy begin to pay their fair share.
01:03:43Right now, everybody making under hundred seventy thousand dollars pays six percent of their income of their paycheck.
01:03:50Every single time they get a paycheck from the time, the first one they get when they're 18 years old.
01:03:55The idea that they're going to I'm like I've been proposing that everybody they pay the millionaires pay one percent, one percent.
01:04:04So no one after I would not raise the cost of Social Security for anybody under four hundred thousand dollars.
01:04:10After that, I began to make the wealthy begin to pay their fair share by increasing from one percent beyond to be able to guarantee the program for life.
01:04:19So you still have 82 seconds left.
01:04:21Are there any other measures that you think that would be able to help keep Social Security solvent or is just is that one enough?
01:04:27Well, that one enough will keep it solvent.
01:04:29But the biggest thing I'll do if we defeat this man, because he wants to get rid of Social Security.
01:04:34He thinks there's plenty to cut in Social Security.
01:04:37He's wanted to cut Social Security and Medicare both times.
01:04:40And that's what. And if you look at the program put forward by the House Republican Caucus that he supports is, in fact, want to cut it as well.
01:04:50The idea that we don't need to protect our seniors is ridiculous.
01:04:55We put we. And by the way, the American public has greater health care coverage today than ever before.
01:05:01And on the ACA, as I said, you're in a circumstance where four hundred thousand people for I mean,
01:05:0840 million people would not have insurance because they have a preexisting condition.
01:05:12Only allows them to have that insurance is the fact that they, in fact, are part of the ACA.
01:05:18And by the way, the other thing is we're in a situation where I talk about education for black communities.
01:05:24I've raised the number, the amount of money for Pell Grants, another eight thousand dollars.
01:05:29Anybody making under seventy thousand dollars a year are going to be able to get fifteen thousand dollars towards their tuition.
01:05:37He just doesn't know what he's talking about.
01:05:39Thank you, President Biden. President Trump.
01:05:40So I've dealt with politicians all my life.
01:05:43I've been on this side of the equation for the last eight years.
01:05:49I've never seen anybody lie like this guy. He lies.
01:05:52I've never seen it. He can look you in the face so bad about so many other things, too.
01:05:57And we mentioned the laptop. We mentioned Russia, Russia, Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine.
01:06:01Everything he does is a lie. It's misinformation and disinformation.
01:06:06The losers and suckers story that he made up is a total lie on the military.
01:06:11It's a disgrace. But Social Security, he's destroying it because millions of people are pouring into our country and they're putting them onto Social Security.
01:06:20They're putting them onto Medicare, Medicaid.
01:06:22They're putting them in our hospitals. They're taking the place of our citizens there.
01:06:26What they're doing to the V.A., to our veterans is unbelievable.
01:06:30Our veterans are living in the street and these people are living in luxury hotels.
01:06:34He doesn't know what he's doing. And it's really coming back.
01:06:38I've never seen such anger in our country before.
01:06:42President Biden, the idea that veterans are not being taken care of.
01:06:45I told you before, by the way, when I said suckers and losers, he said he acknowledged after that he fired that general.
01:06:52That general got fired because he's the one that acknowledged that.
01:06:56That's what he said. He was the one standing with Trump when he said it.
01:06:59Number one. Number two, the idea that we're going to be in a situation where all these millions and millions,
01:07:06the way he talks about it, illegal aliens are coming into the country and taking away our jobs.
01:07:12There's a reason why we have the fastest growing economy in the world.
01:07:15The reason why we have the most successful economy in the world.
01:07:18We're doing better than any other nation in the world.
01:07:21And by the way, those 15 Nobel laureates he talked about being phony, those 15 Nobel laureates, economists,
01:07:27they all said that if Trump is reelected, we're likely to have a recession and inflation is going to increasingly go up.
01:07:34And by the way, worst president history, 159 presidential scholars voted him the worst president in the history of the United States of America.
01:07:42President Biden, thank you so much. Let's turn to the cost of child care, which many American families struggle to afford.
01:07:47President Trump, both you and President Biden have tried to address this issue.
01:07:52But the average cost of child care in this country has risen to more than eleven thousand dollars a year per child.
01:07:57For many families, the cost of child care for two children is more than their rent.
01:08:03In your second term, what would you do to make child care more affordable?
01:08:08Just to go back, the general got fired because he was no good.
01:08:12And if he said that, that's why he made it up.
01:08:14But we have 19 people that said I didn't say it.
01:08:16And they're very highly respected, much more so than him.
01:08:19The other thing is he doesn't fire people.
01:08:23He never fired people. I've never seen him fire anybody.
01:08:26I did fire a lot. I fired Comey because he was no good.
01:08:28I fired a lot of the top people at the FBI, drained the swamp.
01:08:31There were no good, not easy to fire people.
01:08:33You'd pay a price for it, but there were no good.
01:08:36I inherited these people. I didn't put him.
01:08:37They didn't put Comey there. He was no good.
01:08:39I fired him. This guy hasn't fired anybody.
01:08:42He never fires. He should have fired every military man that was involved with that Afghan.
01:08:48The Afghanistan horror show,
01:08:51the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country.
01:08:54He didn't fire. Did you fire anybody?
01:08:56Did you fire anybody that's on the border
01:08:59that's allowed us to have the worst border in the history of the world?
01:09:01Did anybody get fired for allowing 18 million people,
01:09:04many from prisons, many from mental institutions?
01:09:08Did you fire anybody that allowed our country to be destroyed?
01:09:12Joe, our country is being destroyed as you and I sit up here
01:09:16and waste a lot of time on this debate.
01:09:18This shouldn't be a debate. He is the worst president.
01:09:21He just said it about me because I said it.
01:09:23But look, he's the worst president in the history of our country.
01:09:26He's destroyed our country.
01:09:28Now, all of a sudden, he's trying to get a little tough on the border.
01:09:30He came out with a nothing deal,
01:09:34and it reduced it a little bit, a little bit, like this much.
01:09:37It's insignificant. He wants open borders.
01:09:40He wants our country to either be destroyed
01:09:43or he wants to pick up those people as voters.
01:09:46And I don't think we just can't let it happen.
01:09:49If he wins this election, our country doesn't have a chance,
01:09:53not even a chance of coming out of this rut.
01:09:57We probably won't have a country left anymore.
01:09:59That's how bad it is. He is the worst in history by far.
01:10:03Thank you, President Trump. President Biden?
01:10:04We are the most admired country in the world.
01:10:07We're the United States of America.
01:10:09There's nothing beyond our capacity.
01:10:11We have the finest military in the history of the world,
01:10:13the finest in the history of the world.
01:10:15No one thinks we're weak.
01:10:17No one wants to screw around with us.
01:10:19Nobody, number one.
01:10:21Number two, the idea that we're talking about worst presidents.
01:10:25I wasn't joking. Look it up. Go online.
01:10:28159 or 58, don't hold me to the exact number,
01:10:31presidential historians, they've had meetings,
01:10:34and they voted who's the worst president in American history,
01:10:37one through best to worst.
01:10:39They said he was the worst in all of American history.
01:10:42That's a fact. That's not a, that's not conjecture.
01:10:45He can argue they're wrong, but that's what they voted.
01:10:48The idea that he is knowing,
01:10:49doing anything to deal with childcare.
01:10:52He did very, virtually nothing to childcare.
01:10:55We should significantly increase the childcare tax credit.
01:10:58We should significantly increase the availability of women
01:11:01and men or single parents to be able to go back to work.
01:11:05And we should encourage businesses to hold,
01:11:07to have childcare facilities. Thank you, President Biden.
01:11:09President Trump, the question was about what would you do
01:11:11to make childcare more affordable?
01:11:13If you want to take your minute.
01:11:14Just so you understand, we have polling.
01:11:16We have other things that they rate him the worst
01:11:20because what he's done is so bad.
01:11:22And they rate me, I'll show you, I will show you.
01:11:24And they rate me one of the best. Okay.
01:11:26And if I'm given another four years, I will be the best.
01:11:30I think I'll be the best.
01:11:31Nobody's ever created an economy like us.
01:11:34Nobody ever cut taxes like us. He's the only one I know.
01:11:37He wants to raise your taxes by four times.
01:11:40He wants to raise everybody's taxes by four times.
01:11:43He wants the Trump tax cuts to expire.
01:11:46So everybody, including the two of you,
01:11:48are going to pay four to five times.
01:11:49Nobody ever heard of this before.
01:11:51All my life, I'd grow up and I'd see politicians
01:11:53talking about cutting taxes.
01:11:55When we cut taxes, as I said, we did more business.
01:11:58Apple and all these companies,
01:12:00they were bringing money back into our country.
01:12:03The worst president in history by far,
01:12:05and everybody knows it.
01:12:07President Biden.
01:12:08Look, the fact of the matter is that he's dead wrong about —
01:12:11he's increased the tariff.
01:12:13He's increased — he will increase the taxes
01:12:16on middle-class people.
01:12:17I said I'd never raise a tax on anybody
01:12:19making less than $400,000. I didn't.
01:12:22But this tariff is 10 percent tariff.
01:12:24Everything coming into the country —
01:12:25you know what the economists say?
01:12:27That's going to cost the average American $2,500 a year more
01:12:32because they're going to have to pay the difference in food
01:12:36and all the things that are very important.
01:12:39Number two, he's in a situation where he talks about
01:12:41how he has not raised —
01:12:44he somehow helped the middle class.
01:12:46The middle class has been devastated by you.
01:12:49Now you want a new tax cut of $5 trillion
01:12:52over the next 10 years,
01:12:53which is going to fundamentally bankrupt the country.
01:12:56You had the largest deficit of any president
01:12:58in American history, number one.
01:13:00Number two, you have not, in fact, made any contact —
01:13:04any progress with China.
01:13:07We are the lowest trade deficit with China since 2010.
01:13:11You were the highest. You lost hundreds of thousands.
01:13:12Thank you, President Biden.
01:13:14Let's discuss an epidemic impacting millions of Americans
01:13:17that both of you have made a top priority in your first term,
01:13:20the opioid crisis.
01:13:21And for both of you,
01:13:23the number of overdose deaths in this country has gone up.
01:13:27Under your term, it went up.
01:13:29Under your term, it has gone up.
01:13:31Former President Trump, despite the efforts
01:13:32that both of you have made,
01:13:34more than 100,000 Americans are dying from overdoses
01:13:36every year, primarily from fentanyl and other opioids.
01:13:40What will you do to help Americans
01:13:41right now in the throes of addiction
01:13:44who are struggling to get the treatment they need?
01:13:47To finish up, we now have the largest deficit
01:13:51in the history of our country under this guy.
01:13:53We have the largest deficit with China.
01:13:56He gets paid by China. He's a Manchurian candidate.
01:13:58He gets money from China.
01:14:00We have — so I think he's afraid to deal with it
01:14:01or something.
01:14:03But do you notice he never took out my tariffs
01:14:05because we bring in so much money
01:14:06with the tariffs that I imposed on China?
01:14:09He never took them away.
01:14:10He can't because it's too much money.
01:14:12It's tremendous. And we saved our steel industries.
01:14:14And there was more to come, but he hasn't done that.
01:14:17But he hasn't cut the tariffs because he can't,
01:14:19because it's too much money.
01:14:21But he's got the largest deficit in the history of our country,
01:14:25and he's got the worst — the worst situation with China.
01:14:28China is going to own us if you keep allowing them
01:14:31to do what they're doing to us as a country.
01:14:33They are killing us as a country, Joe.
01:14:36And you can't let that happen.
01:14:37You're destroying our country.
01:14:39So, President Trump, you have 67 seconds left.
01:14:42The question was, what are you going to do to help Americans
01:14:44in the throes of addiction right now
01:14:46who are struggling to get the treatment they need?
01:14:48Jake, we were doing very well at addiction
01:14:50until the COVID came along.
01:14:52We had the two and a half, almost three years of —
01:14:54like nobody's ever had before any country, in every way.
01:14:58And then we had to get tough.
01:14:59And it was — the drugs pouring across the border
01:15:03were — it started to increase.
01:15:05We got great equipment. We bought the certain dog.
01:15:08That's the most incredible thing that you've ever seen,
01:15:10the way they can spot it. We did a lot.
01:15:12And we had — we were getting very low numbers.
01:15:15Very, very low numbers.
01:15:17Then he came along.
01:15:18The numbers — have you seen the numbers now?
01:15:20It's not only the 18 million people
01:15:22that I believe is even low, because they — the gotaways —
01:15:25they don't even talk about gotaways.
01:15:27But the numbers of — the amount of drugs
01:15:30and human trafficking in women coming across our border —
01:15:34the worst thing I've ever seen,
01:15:37at numbers that nobody has ever seen under him
01:15:39because the border is so bad.
01:15:41But the number of drugs coming across our border
01:15:44now is the largest we've ever had by far.
01:15:47President Trump, thank you. President Biden?
01:15:48Fentanyl and the byproducts of fentanyl went down for a while.
01:15:53And I wanted to make sure we used the machinery
01:15:55that can detect fentanyl, these big machines
01:15:57that roll over everything that comes across the border.
01:16:00And it costs a lot of money.
01:16:01That was part of this deal we put together,
01:16:03this bipartisan deal.
01:16:05More fentanyl machines, more — more be able to detect drugs,
01:16:09more — more numbers of agents,
01:16:12more numbers of all the people at the border.
01:16:15And when we had that deal done, he went —
01:16:17he called his Republican colleagues and said,
01:16:20don't do it. It's going to hurt me politically.
01:16:22No, he never argued it's not a good bill.
01:16:24It's a really good bill.
01:16:26We need those machines. We need those machines.
01:16:29And we're coming down very hard in every country in Asia
01:16:32in terms of precursors for fentanyl.
01:16:34And Mexico is working with us to make sure
01:16:36they don't have the technology to be able to put it together.
01:16:39That's what we have to do. We need those machines.
01:16:42Thank you, President Biden. President Trump, and again,
01:16:44the question is about Americans in the throes of addiction
01:16:48right now struggling to get the treatment they need.
01:16:50Well, this — because this does pertain to it.
01:16:52He ended remain in Mexico. He ended catch and release.
01:16:56I made a catch and release in Mexico,
01:16:58not catch and release here.
01:17:00We had so many things that we had done —
01:17:02hard negotiations with Mexico. And I got it all for nothing.
01:17:06It's just like when you have a hostage.
01:17:07We always pay $6 billion for a host —
01:17:09every time we say it's a hostage.
01:17:11Now we have a hostage, a Wall Street Journal reporter.
01:17:14I think a good guy.
01:17:16And he's over there because Putin is laughing at this guy,
01:17:19probably asking for billions of dollars for the reporter.
01:17:23I will have him out very quickly.
01:17:26As soon as I take office — before I take office,
01:17:29I said by literally — as soon as I win the election,
01:17:33I will have that reporter out.
01:17:34He should have had him out a long time ago.
01:17:36But Putin's probably asking for billions and billions of dollars
01:17:39because this guy pays it every time.
01:17:41We had two cases where he paid $6 billion for five people.
01:17:45I got 58 people out, and I paid essentially nothing.
01:17:49Thank you, President Trump. Dana.
01:17:51Let's turn to concerns that voters have about each of you.
01:17:54President Biden, you would be 86 at the end of your second term.
01:18:00How do you address concerns about your capability
01:18:03to handle the toughest job in the world well into your 80s?
01:18:08Well, first of all, I spent half my career being criticized
01:18:12being the youngest person in politics.
01:18:15I was the second youngest person
01:18:16ever elected to the United States Senate.
01:18:18And now I'm the oldest.
01:18:20This guy's three years younger and a lot less competent.
01:18:23I think that just look at the record.
01:18:24Look at what I've done.
01:18:25Look how I've turned around the horrible situation he left me.
01:18:28As I said, 50 million new jobs, 800,000 manufacturing jobs,
01:18:32more investment in America,
01:18:34over millions, billions of dollars in private investment
01:18:37in enterprises that we are growing.
01:18:41By the way, we brought off a lot of people,
01:18:44the whole idea of computer chips.
01:18:46We used to have 40% of the market.
01:18:48We invented those chips, and we lost it
01:18:51because he was sending people to find the cheapest jobs
01:18:55and to bring home a product.
01:18:56So I went to South Korea.
01:18:59I convinced Samsung to invest billions of dollars
01:19:02here in the United States.
01:19:03And guess what?
01:19:05Those fabs they call to build these chips,
01:19:09those fabs pay over $100,000.
01:19:12You don't need a college degree for them.
01:19:14And there's billions, about $40 billion
01:19:17already being invested and being built right now
01:19:19in the United States creating significant jobs
01:19:22for Americans from all over the world.
01:19:25President Biden, you have 40 seconds left.
01:19:27Would you like to add anything?
01:19:28Yeah, I would.
01:19:29The idea that somehow we are this failing country.
01:19:34I never heard a president talk like this before.
01:19:37We're the envy of the world.
01:19:38Name me a single major country president
01:19:42who wouldn't trade places with the United States of America
01:19:44for all our problems and all our opportunities.
01:19:47We're the most progressive country in the world
01:19:49in getting things done.
01:19:50We're the strongest country in the world.
01:19:52We're a country in the world who keeps our word
01:19:54and everybody trusts us, all of our allies.
01:19:57And those who he coddles up to from Kim Jong-un,
01:20:02who he sends love letters to, and Putin, et cetera,
01:20:05they don't want to screw around with us.
01:20:07Thank you.
01:20:08Former President Trump, to follow up,
01:20:10you would be 82 at the end of your second term.
01:20:13What do you say to voters who have concerns
01:20:15about your capabilities to serve?
01:20:17Well, I took two tests, cognitive tests.
01:20:19I aced them, both of them.
01:20:21As you know, we made it public.
01:20:23He took none. I'd like to see him take one,
01:20:25just one, a real easy one.
01:20:26Like, go through the first five questions.
01:20:28He couldn't do it.
01:20:29But I took two cognitive tests.
01:20:31I took physical exams every year.
01:20:34And, you know, we knock on wood, wherever we may have wood,
01:20:37that I'm in very good health.
01:20:38I just won two club championships,
01:20:40not even senior, two regular club championships.
01:20:43To do that, you have to be quite smart
01:20:46and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way.
01:20:48And I do it. He doesn't do it. He can't hit a ball 50 yards.
01:20:51He challenged me to a golf match.
01:20:52He can't hit a ball 50 yards. I think I'm in very good shape.
01:20:56I feel that I'm as in good a shape as I was 25, 30 years ago.
01:21:00Actually, I'm probably a little bit lighter.
01:21:02But I'm in as good a shape as I was years ago.
01:21:06I feel very good. I feel the same.
01:21:08But I took — I was willing to take a cognitive test.
01:21:10And you know what? If I didn't do well, I aced them.
01:21:13Dr. Ronny Jackson, who's a great guy,
01:21:15when he was White House doctor.
01:21:17And then I took another one, a similar one.
01:21:19And both — one of them said they've never seen anybody ace him.
01:21:22Thank you. President Biden?
01:21:25You can see he is 6'5", and only 223 pounds —
01:21:28or 235 pounds.
01:21:31Well, you said 6'4", 200.
01:21:34Well, anyway, that's what you're — anyway.
01:21:36Just take a look at what he says he is and take a look at what he is.
01:21:40Look, I'd be happy to have a driving contest with him.
01:21:43I got my handicap, which when I was vice president,
01:21:46down to a 6.
01:21:49And, by the way, I told you before,
01:21:51I'm happy to play golf if you carry your own bag.
01:21:54Think you can do it?
01:21:56That's the biggest lie that he's ever told.
01:21:57He's a 6-handicap of all.
01:21:59I was an 8-handicap.
01:22:00Yeah. Eight?
01:22:02Never. But I have — you know how many —
01:22:04I've seen you swing. I know you swing.
01:22:06Let's not act like children, Joe.
01:22:08President Trump, we're going to turn —
01:22:09Let's not act like children.
01:22:11You are a child.
01:22:12— to a specific concern that voters have about you.
01:22:15Will you pledge tonight
01:22:17that once all legal challenges have been exhausted,
01:22:20that you will accept the results of this election,
01:22:23regardless of who wins?
01:22:25And you will say right now
01:22:27that political violence in any form is unacceptable?
01:22:31Well, I shouldn't have to say that,
01:22:32but, of course, I believe that.
01:22:34It's totally unacceptable.
01:22:36And if you would see my statements
01:22:37that I made on Twitter at the time
01:22:39and also my statement that I made in the Rose Garden,
01:22:41you would say it's one of the strongest statements
01:22:43you've ever seen, in addition to the speech I made in front of,
01:22:46I believe, the largest crowd I've ever spoken to.
01:22:49And I will tell you, nobody ever talks about that.
01:22:51They talk about a relatively small number of people
01:22:54that went to the Capitol
01:22:55and, in many cases, were ushered in by the police.
01:22:58And as Nancy Pelosi said, it was her responsibility, not mine.
01:23:02She said that loud and clear.
01:23:03But the answer is, if the election is fair, free —
01:23:07and I want that more than anybody.
01:23:09And I'll tell you something.
01:23:11I wish he was a great President
01:23:12because I wouldn't be here right now.
01:23:14I'd be at one of my many places enjoying myself.
01:23:18I wouldn't be under indictment
01:23:19because I wouldn't have been his political, you know, opponent.
01:23:23Because he indicted me because I was his opponent.
01:23:26I wish he was a great President.
01:23:28I would rather have that.
01:23:30I wouldn't be here.
01:23:31I don't mind being here.
01:23:32But the only reason I'm here is he's so bad as a President
01:23:35that I'm going to make America great again.
01:23:37We're going to make America great again.
01:23:40We're a failing nation right now.
01:23:41We're a seriously failing nation.
01:23:43And we're a failing nation because of him.
01:23:46His policies are so bad.
01:23:48His military policies are insane.
01:23:52They're insane.
01:23:53These are wars that will never end with him.
01:23:55He will drive us into World War III.
01:23:57And we're closer to World War III than anybody can imagine.
01:24:01We are very, very close to World War III.
01:24:04And he's driving us there.
01:24:05And Kim Jong Un and President Xi of China,
01:24:09Kim Jong Un of North Korea —
01:24:11all of these — Putin — they don't respect him.
01:24:13They don't fear him.
01:24:15They have nothing going with this gentleman.
01:24:17And he's going to drive us into World War III.
01:24:21You want a World War III, let him follow and win
01:24:25and let Putin say, do what you want, NATO.
01:24:27Just do what you want.
01:24:29There's a thing called Article 5.
01:24:31An attack on one is an attack on all.
01:24:33A required response.
01:24:35The idea — the idea —
01:24:37I can't think of a single major leader in the world
01:24:40who wouldn't trade places with the job
01:24:42I've done and what they've done.
01:24:44Because we are a powerful nation.
01:24:46We have wonderful people. It's because of the people,
01:24:48not me. It's because of the American people.
01:24:50They're capable of anything.
01:24:51And they step up when they're needed.
01:24:52And right now, we're needed.
01:24:54We're needed to protect the world
01:24:56because our own safety is at stake.
01:24:58And again, you want to have a war,
01:25:00just let Putin go ahead and take Kiev,
01:25:02make sure they move on,
01:25:04see what happens in Poland, Hungary,
01:25:06and other places along that border.
01:25:08Then you have a war.
01:25:10President Trump, as I come back to you for a follow-up,
01:25:13the question was, will you accept the results
01:25:16of this election regardless of who wins?
01:25:19Just to finish what he said, if I might.
01:25:23Russia, they took a lot of land from Bush.
01:25:26They took a lot of land from Obama and Biden.
01:25:30They took no land, nothing, from Trump.
01:25:33Nothing. He knew not to do it.
01:25:35You're not going to play games with me.
01:25:36He knew that. I got along with him very well,
01:25:38but he knew not to play games.
01:25:40He took nothing from me.
01:25:42But now he's going to take the whole thing
01:25:44from this man right here.
01:25:46That's a war that should have never started.
01:25:48It would have never started ever with me.
01:25:52And he's going to take Ukraine.
01:25:54And, you know, you asked me a question before,
01:25:56would you do this?
01:25:57He's got us in such a bad position right now
01:25:59with Ukraine and Russia
01:26:02because Ukraine's not winning that war.
01:26:04He said, I will never settle until such time.
01:26:07They're running out of people. They're running out of soldiers.
01:26:09They've lost so many people. It's so sad.
01:26:11They've lost so many people,
01:26:13and they've lost those gorgeous cities
01:26:15with the golden domes that are 1,000 years old,
01:26:17all because of him and stupid decisions.
01:26:21Russia would have never attacked if I were president.
01:26:23The question was, will you accept
01:26:25the results of the election,
01:26:27regardless of who wins, yes or no, please?
01:26:29If it's a fair and legal and good election, absolutely.
01:26:34I would have much rather accepted these,
01:26:37but the fraud and everything else was ridiculous.
01:26:41And if you want, we'll have a news conference on it in a week,
01:26:44or we'll have another one of these in a week.
01:26:46But I will absolutely, there's nothing I'd rather do.
01:26:50It would be much easier for me to do that
01:26:53than I'm running again.
01:26:55I wasn't really going to run
01:26:57until I saw the horrible job he did.
01:27:00He's destroying our country.
01:27:01I would be very happy to be someplace else
01:27:04in a nice location someplace.
01:27:06And again, no indictments, no political opponent stuff,
01:27:10because it's the only way he thinks he can win.
01:27:12But unfortunately, it's driven up my numbers
01:27:14and driven up to a very high level
01:27:16because the people understand it.
01:27:19Let's see what your numbers are when this election is over.
01:27:22Let's see. You're a whiner.
01:27:24When you lost the first time, you continued.
01:27:27You appealed and appealed to courts all across the country.
01:27:30Not one single court in America said any of your claims
01:27:34had any merit.
01:27:36State or local, none.
01:27:38But you continue to provoke this lie
01:27:41about somehow there's all this misrepresentation,
01:27:44all this stealing.
01:27:45There is no evidence of that at all.
01:27:48And I tell you what, I doubt whether you'll accept it
01:27:50because you're such a whiner.
01:27:52The idea, if you lose again, you accepting anything,
01:27:55you can't stand the loss.
01:27:56Something snapped in you when you lost the last time.

01:29:05to make America great again.
01:29:07Is that our dream has been earned
01:29:11for progress and for peace.
01:29:13Taxes will go up.
01:29:16And anyone who says they won't is not telling the truth.
01:29:20With our beloved nation at peace,
01:29:22we're in the midst of a springtime of hope for America.
01:29:25Because we are the party
01:29:27that believes in the American dream.
01:29:30Read my lips.
01:29:32No more taxes.
01:29:35I still believe in a place called hope.
01:29:41Here's the question for the American people.
01:29:44Who do you trust in this election?
01:29:46The real choice is whether we will build a bridge
01:29:48to the future or a bridge to the past.
01:29:51I have unlimited confidence
01:29:54in the wisdom of our people and the future of our country.
01:29:57I stand here tonight as my own man.
01:30:00They had their chance.
01:30:01They have not led.
01:30:03We will.
01:30:04I'm John Kerry, and I'm reporting for duty.
01:30:09These four years have brought moments
01:30:11I could not foresee and will not forget.
01:30:13It's time for us to change America.
01:30:17I wasn't my own man anymore.
01:30:20I was my country's.
01:30:21We have been there.
01:30:23We've tried that, and we're not going back.
01:30:25We are moving forward, America.
01:30:27Under my administration,
01:30:28our friends will see more loyalty,
01:30:30and Mr. Putin will see a little less flexibility
01:30:33and more backbone.
01:30:35He wants to make America great again.
01:30:37Well, he could start by actually making things in America again.
01:30:42We will make America safe again.
01:30:48And we will make America great again.
01:30:52If you entrust me with the presidency,
01:30:54I will draw on the best of us, not the worst.
01:30:57This towering American spirit has prevailed
01:31:00over every challenge.

01:31:17Once again, waiting for the CNN presidential debate
01:31:27between President Biden and former President Trump
01:31:29to resume.
01:31:30A reminder that we will get your reaction
01:31:32to what you've seen and heard tonight
01:31:34as soon as the debate is over.
01:31:35Our live simulcast continues from Atlanta in just a moment.
01:31:45It is now time for the candidates
01:31:47to deliver their closing statements
01:31:48as predetermined by a coin toss.
01:31:51We're going to begin with you, President Biden.
01:31:53You have two minutes.
01:31:57We've made significant progress from the debacle
01:32:01that was left by President Trump in his last term.
01:32:06We find ourselves in a situation where, number one,
01:32:09we have to make sure that we have a fair tax system.
01:32:12I ask anyone out there in the audience
01:32:14or anyone out watching this debate,
01:32:17you think the tax system is fair.
01:32:19The fact is that, I said,
01:32:21nobody even making under $400,000
01:32:23had a single penny increase in their taxes and will not.
01:32:26And if I'm reelected, that'll be the case again.
01:32:29But this guy has increased your taxes
01:32:32because of the deficit, number one.
01:32:34He's increased inflation because of the debacle
01:32:37he left after the way he handled the pandemic.
01:32:40And he finds himself in a position
01:32:41where he now wants to tax you more by putting a 10% tariff
01:32:45on everything that comes into the United States of America.
01:32:48What I did, when, for example, he wants to get rid
01:32:52of the ability of Medicare for us to be able
01:33:00to negotiate drug prices with the big pharma companies.
01:33:02Well, guess what?
01:33:04We got it down to $35 for insulin instead of $400.
01:33:11No more than $2,000 for every senior,
01:33:14no matter how much prescription they need.
01:33:17You know what that did?
01:33:18That reduced the federal debt by $160 billion over 10 years
01:33:25because the government doesn't have to pay the exorbitant prices.
01:33:28I'm going to make that available to every senior all along,
01:33:32and it's happening now, and everybody in America.
01:33:35He wants to get rid of that.
01:33:37We have, I'm going to make sure that we have childcare.
01:33:39We're going to significantly increase the credit
01:33:41people have for childcare.
01:33:43I'm going to make sure we do something
01:33:44about what we're doing on lead pipes
01:33:47and all the things that are causing health problems
01:33:50for people across the country.
01:33:52We're going to continue to fight to bring down inflation
01:33:55and give people a break.
01:33:56Thank you, President Biden. President Trump,
01:33:58you now have two minutes for your closing statement.
01:34:00Like so many politicians, this man is just a complainer.
01:34:04He said, we want to do this, we want to do that,
01:34:06we want to get rid of this tax, that tax,
01:34:08but he doesn't do anything.
01:34:10He doesn't do, all he does is make our country unsafe
01:34:12by allowing millions and millions of people to pour in.
01:34:16Our military doesn't respect him.
01:34:18We look like fools in Afghanistan.
01:34:20We didn't stop Israel. It was such a horrible thing.
01:34:23That would have never happened. It should have never happened.
01:34:25Iran was broke.
01:34:27Anybody that did business with Iran, including China,
01:34:29they couldn't do business with the United States.
01:34:31They all passed. Iran was broke.
01:34:33They had no money for Hamas or Hezbollah,
01:34:36for terror, no money whatsoever.
01:34:38Again, Ukraine should have never happened.
01:34:40He talks about all this stuff, but he didn't do it.
01:34:42For three and a half years, we're living in hell.
01:34:45We have the Palestinians,
01:34:46and we have everybody else rioting all over the place.
01:34:49You talk about Charlottesville.
01:34:51This is 100 times Charlottesville,
01:34:531,000 times Charlottesville.
01:34:54The whole country is exploding because of you,
01:34:57because they don't respect you,
01:34:58and they have to respect their president,
01:35:00and they don't respect you throughout the world.
01:35:03What we did was incredible. We rebuilt the military.
01:35:06We got the largest tax cut in history,
01:35:08the largest regulation cut in history.
01:35:10The reason he's got jobs
01:35:11is because I cut the regulations that gave jobs,
01:35:14but he's putting a lot of those regulations back on.
01:35:17All of the things that we've done,
01:35:18nobody's ever seen anything like it,
01:35:21even from a medical standpoint, right to try.
01:35:23Well, we can try space-age materials.
01:35:26Instead of going to Asia or going to Europe
01:35:28and trying to get when you're terminally ill,
01:35:31now you can go and you can get something.
01:35:32You sign a document.
01:35:33They've been trying to get it for 42 years.
01:35:37But, you know, what we did for the military
01:35:38was an incredible choice for our soldiers,
01:35:40where our soldiers,
01:35:42instead of waiting for three months to see a doctor,
01:35:44can go out and get themselves fixed up and readied up
01:35:48and take care of themselves, and they're living.
01:35:51And that's why I had the highest approval rating
01:35:53in the history of the VA.
01:35:54So all of these things.
01:35:55We're in a failing nation,
01:35:57but it's not going to be failing anymore.
01:35:59We're going to make it great again.
01:36:03We're going to make it great.
