Disturbing interviews with criminals often reveal unsettling insights into their minds and the motivations behind their heinous acts. Here are some of the most chilling interviews that have left a lasting impact:
1. **Dennis Rader (BTK Killer)**: Rader gave a calm and detailed confession of his crimes, describing how he bound, tortured, and killed his victims. His matter-of-fact demeanor while discussing his brutal acts is particularly disturbing.
2. **Charles Manson**: Known for his bizarre and erratic behavior, Manson's interviews are filled with ramblings and unsettling statements. His intense charisma and manipulative nature are evident, showing how he was able to control and influence his followers to commit murders.
3. **Issei Sagawa**: Sagawa, a Japanese cannibal, openly discussed his crime of murdering and eating a Dutch woman in Paris. His lack of remorse and detailed recounting of the act are deeply unnerving.
4. **Ted Bundy**: In his final interviews before his execution, Bundy attempted to explain his motivations and tried to blame pornography for his crimes. His articulate and seemingly normal demeanor contrasts sharply with the brutality of his actions.
5. **Jeffrey Dahmer**: Dahmer's interviews reveal a chilling calmness as he talks about his murders and acts of necrophilia and cannibalism. His matter-of-fact tone while discussing such horrific acts is particularly disturbing.
6. **Aileen Wuornos**: The female serial killer's interviews show a volatile and emotional side, as she expresses anger and frustration. Her outbursts and claims of self-defense provide a glimpse into her troubled mind.
7. **Richard Ramirez (Night Stalker)**: Ramirez's interviews showcase his lack of remorse and his embrace of Satanism. His chilling statements about his crimes and his indifference to human life are deeply unsettling.
8. **David Berkowitz (Son of Sam)**: Berkowitz's interviews, both shortly after his arrest and years later, reveal his claimed possession by demons and later his conversion to Christianity. The transformation in his demeanor over the years is notable.
9. **Ed Kemper (Co-ed Killer)**: Kemper's interviews are particularly chilling due to his high intelligence and articulate nature. He discusses his crimes in great detail, providing a disturbing insight into his psyche.
10. **John Wayne Gacy**: Gacy's interviews show a man in denial, often claiming innocence despite overwhelming evidence against him. His calm and charming demeanor contrasts with the horrific nature of his crimes.
These interviews not only provide a glimpse into the dark minds of these criminals but also serve as a stark reminder of the capacity for evil within some individuals. Did any of these interviews particularly stand out to you, or are there other cases you find equally disturbing?

00:00Do you feel like wolf's kebabs, right, Frenich?
00:08Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at the most troubling interviews
00:12given by criminals either before or after their conviction.
00:15Shoelaces, huh? You're in trouble now.
00:18Aren't you afraid sitting that close to me?
00:22Jared Baden Clay. It's always creepy watching a killer play innocent.
00:26In the early morning of April 20, 2012, an Australian man named Jared Baden Clay
00:31reported his wife Allison missing. A few days later, he appeared in this television interview
00:36with 9 News. Baden Clay fights back tears as he speaks with the reporter about his missing wife.
00:42I'm trying to look after my children at the moment. They've got three young girls and
00:47we really trust that the police are doing everything they can to find my wife and
00:52we just hope that she'll come home soon.
00:54It's a decent performance with the crocodile tears, but a performance nonetheless.
00:58It wasn't long after this interview was given that a canoeist found the body of Allison lying
01:02on the bank of a creek. Baden Clay was questioned by police and later charged with his wife's murder
01:08and the disposal of her remains. After a two-month investigation, on the 13th of June 2012,
01:15police arrested 41-year-old Jared Robert Baden Clay and charged him with the murder
01:20of his 43-year-old wife Allison. He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
01:26It's a supreme arrogance and
01:33feeling that he could just pull the wool over everybody's eyes and they'd buy it.
01:37Ian Huntley. Two girls named Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman disappeared on the evening of
01:42August 4, 2002. They had left a family barbecue to buy some candy but never returned home,
01:48prompting a widespread search and much media attention.
01:51For two weeks, police and locals desperately scoured the area. It was every parent's worst
01:58nightmare. There was a sense of real fear and dread in the village. People were starting to
02:05get more and more desperate as to what might have happened to these two little girls.
02:10One interview was given with a man named Ian Huntley, who claimed to have seen the girls
02:14walking by the evening they disappeared. However, police were not buying his story and he was
02:20quietly made a suspect. You may, as it turned out, have been the last person to actually chat
02:24to them before they vanished. Yeah, that's what it seems like.
02:28The girls' bodies were found on the afternoon of August 17th and Huntley was arrested for
02:33their deaths. It was later discovered that he had lured the girls inside of his house,
02:37where he ended their lives before dumping their bodies in an irrigation ditch.
02:41Huntley is currently being held at Franklin High Security Prison.
02:46It can be no doubt in my mind that Huntley really enjoyed the notoriety. He liked being a focus of
02:54attention and he loved being interviewed. It also underlines his utter lack of remorse.
03:00Issei Sagawa
03:08The story of Issei Sagawa is both a difficult and controversial one. Sagawa was studying
03:13literature at the Sorbonne University in Paris when he befriended a classmate named Renée
03:17Hartevelt. In June of 1981, Sagawa invited Hartevelt to his apartment, where he tragically
03:27murdered her and committed unspeakable acts on her body. He was arrested while disposing
03:32of her remains, but only spent a brief period in a mental health hospital after being found
03:36unfit to stand trial.
03:38Later in life, Sagawa gave numerous interviews in which he spoke freely on his encounter with
04:00Hartevelt, including a prolonged piece with Vice entitled Interview with a Cannibal.
04:06Needless to say, the contents and the calm demeanor of Sagawa himself are incredibly
04:10disturbing.
04:22Christy Abrahams
04:24In this seemingly heartbreaking interview,
04:26we see a distraught mother desperately pleading for the safe return of her daughter.
04:31This is Christy Abrahams, who can barely squeak out a single word about her missing child Kaisha.
04:41Rather, she hides behind sunglasses and a tissue,
04:44periodically unleashing sounds of pain and grief.
04:52Unfortunately, Kaisha was already dead, and it was her mother Christy who had taken her life.
04:57Later, investigations proved that Kaisha had endured horrible treatment from Christy,
05:01and that she had died after getting kicked and hitting her head on a bed.
05:05Her body was then torched.
05:07Abrahams was eventually convicted of the crime and sentenced to at least 16 years in prison.
05:20Edward Edwards
05:22There's something incredibly eerie about watching a serial killer so calmly discuss their crimes,
05:26as if they were recalling an old childhood memory.
05:29This elderly man is Edward Edwards,
05:31a serial killer who at one time was on the FBI's most wanted list.
05:43After serving time in prison for robbing gas stations,
05:45Edwards killed at least five individuals, including his adult foster son.
05:50In this chilling interview, Edwards is clad in prison orange,
05:53and recounts his crime spree with eerie precision and detachment.
05:59Following his arrest in 2009,
06:01one of his neighbors called Edwards, quote,
06:03a real soft, pleasant guy.
06:05Judging by this interview, we can see how easy it was to be fooled.
06:23The Gladbach Hostage Crisis
06:27There are few criminal events as bizarre as the Gladbach hostage crisis.
06:32On the morning of August 16, 1988,
06:34German men Hans-Jürgen Roessner and Dieter Dogowski robbed a bank and took two employees hostage.
06:40They proceeded to hijack a public bus, with a total of 27 people on board.
06:45Three individuals died in the ordeal,
06:47and the criminals were finally apprehended during an attempted escape in a getaway car.
06:51This hostage crisis became a live media circus,
06:54with reporters directly engaging with the abductors during the ordeal,
06:58providing them with warnings and directions.
07:00The media's conduct was widely criticized afterwards,
07:03resulting in the enactment of a law that prevented future reporters from speaking to hostage takers.
07:09You never truly know who you're talking to.
07:12That man on the street could very well be a serial killer.
07:21The Boy Scout leader.
07:23The other one was an absolute animal.
07:25Maybe one of the most infamous serial killers of all time.
07:29Dennis Rader is better known by his self-imposed nickname BTK,
07:33which stands for Bind, Torture, Kill, his signature method.
07:37Rader murdered 10 people between 1974 and 1991,
07:41and would often taunt the police and media with threatening letters.
07:44BTK began today's letter with a question,
07:47How many do I have to kill before I get a name in the paper or some national attention?
07:52Later in life, he found work as a compliance officer,
07:54and gave an interview with a local Kansas station about animal attacks.
07:58The dogs are somewhat territorial as well as vicious,
08:01and we've been trying to round them up and corral them as best we can.
08:05Little did everyone know that they were speaking to a despicable criminal.
08:09It wasn't until 2005 that Rader was apprehended and given 10 life sentences.
08:14He remains in solitary confinement where he will stay for the rest of his life.
08:20John Wayne Gacy
08:21And speaking of serial killers, it doesn't get more notorious than John Wayne Gacy.
08:26Gacy's name is synonymous with American crime,
08:29as he killed at least 33 males throughout the late 60s and 70s.
08:33Well, anybody that knows, you see, first of all,
08:34you're basing this garbage on what you've heard of me.
08:38In May of 1992, Gacy sat down with CBS reporter Walter Jacobson
08:42for a prolonged interview about his crimes.
08:45What resulted is one of the most infamous
08:47and confounding interviews ever given by an American criminal.
08:50That one mother that gets on television all the time
08:52who thinks I should be given 33 injections,
08:55I think she ought to take 33 Valiums and go lay down.
08:58Gacy continuously deflects blame and insists that he never killed anyone,
09:02despite having already admitted to doing so.
09:05Just take it that I didn't.
09:07Buckovich is not one that I killed, so I don't know nothing about him.
09:10His motives for lying remain unclear,
09:12but the interview depicts a conniving killer working hard to clear his name.
09:16It just goes to show how he got away with it for so long.
09:20To me, clowning was a way of relaxation for me.
09:23You regressed into childhood, you were able to relax,
09:26and you could be goofy if you wanted to.
09:29Stephen McDaniel.
09:30You know that feeling when your stomach drops
09:32and you realize you're in serious trouble?
09:34It is perfectly visualized in this interview with Stephen McDaniel.
09:38McDaniel killed his former classmate and neighbor Lauren Giddings
09:41and disposed of a body part in their apartment dumpster.
09:44He gave an interview with WGXA a few days later
09:47and pretended to be concerned about the missing Giddings.
09:50No, no, no one has seen her since Saturday.
09:52I haven't seen anything.
09:54I mean, I've always heard noise outside,
09:56but it's just people walking by pretty much.
09:59But when the reporter mentions that her discarded remains had been found,
10:03McDaniel completely shuts down.
10:05Howdy.
10:06Had you heard, had you seen anything there?
10:10He may still be playing the concerned friend to some degree,
10:13but he's also realizing that his perfect crime wasn't so perfect after all.
10:18Are you okay, sir?
10:20I think I need to sit down.
10:21Okay.
10:22McDaniel was later nailed for her murder and is now serving life in prison.

10:42Charles Manson
10:44There are few, if any, American criminals as mythical as Charles Manson.
10:48He never heard you express remorse.
10:50Have you never felt it?
10:51Remorse for what?
10:53You people have done everything in the world to me.
10:56Doesn't that give me equal right?
10:58The infamous leader of the Manson family spoke to today's Heidi Schulman in 1987
11:03while inside San Quentin State Prison.
11:05It's a fascinating interview,
11:07as Manson alternates between unhinged comic book villain
11:10and charming intellectual capable of swaying a legion of followers.
11:14Maybe I haven't done enough.
11:15I might be ashamed of that for not doing enough,
11:18for not giving enough,
11:20for not being more perceptive,
11:22for not being aware enough.
11:24The interview includes moments of pure terror,
11:27like when Manson threatens Schulman with violence.
11:29There are also times when he talks literal gibberish
11:32and moments when he just laughs,
11:33relaxes on the table,
11:35and jokes about his incompetence.
11:36Well, I say that, I say that.
11:38There's nothing wrong with being incompetent
11:40because you don't have to do as much.
11:43We don't know which side is the true Manson,
11:45and despite its intention,
11:47the interview only added to the mythical nature of his character.
11:50Did any of these videos chill your blood?
