00:00My soul
00:02One chance is everything we've waited for
00:06It's our time. So let me take it to
00:18That is worthy
00:30Anticipating just to get a chance so we can be great kings that I'm not wasting no more debating today today our future creating
00:38We won the rating
00:42No
01:00So
01:14We're good
01:18Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our pre-match press conference
01:24For the game against new zealand that will be happening here at the brunner academy tomorrow
01:28With me I have a man who did it all with namibia a legend in his own true world
01:35Craig george williams the coaching consultant for team uganda
01:43Hi welcome
01:45Seeing that this is uganda's first world cup campaign t20 world cup campaign
01:50How important is the exposure in this tournament for your team?
01:54Um
01:55Yeah, look, it's um, you know, it's massive. It's uh, you know, the the learning experiences the guys are gaining
02:01You know, you can't get on a training field. You can't get anywhere else
02:04Um, so, you know what the guys are, you know
02:06I was experienced he was learning from the other teams opposition is definitely making us, you know, a better squad a better
02:12Cricketing country a better cricketing community. So
02:15So a lot of lessons taking home
02:18Okay, good to know
02:19So I see batting has been a concern for your team in this tournament
02:23Yes, you had that forgettable
02:25Outing against the western these and even in the game your
02:28Triumph against the png you kind of struggle get losing seven wickets. How can the team develop going forward?
02:36Yeah, so from a coaching perspective, I think what's been disappointing is that the guys don't apply themselves in the game
02:43Um, like they would let's say in training
02:45Um, you know because if you come to our training sessions, you will see a different picture, you know
02:50You'll see guys training high intensity, um, you know sticking to the game plan
02:54playing straight playing late
02:56But obviously when they get out to the middle, you know, they're not able to apply that, you know
03:00So so if you look at it realistically, it probably comes down to a bit of stress, you know the situation
03:06You know, obviously playing in the world cup on tv
03:08You know, those are things like I said that we can't, you know, bring into the training sessions
03:12Um, so, you know moving forward these guys will only get better, you know, you know once they expose to those types of situations
03:19Um, you know every single day we're getting better and better
03:21We're looking forward to the next game against new zealand
03:24Obviously, hopefully we can just apply ourselves better and stick to the game plans, right as you mentioned the next game
03:30Um, how has the time how has your objectives at the start of the tournament differ to how it is now?
03:36Especially within your final game against new zealand
03:40Yeah, so look, uh, we've got quite detailed game plans, uh, we're trying to keep it as simple and basic as possible for the guys
03:46um
03:47But you know, we've set realistic targets, you know to try get as a batting unit
03:51We've you know, I believe we've got very close to a world-class bowling unit
03:56So if we can get something on the board for the guys to bowl out, you know
03:59Then that's obviously going to show the world what we're capable of
04:01Um, you know in terms of the batting we've you know, we're training every single day. We're working with the guys
04:06We're doing video analysis. We're doing technical work
04:09So we're ticking all the boxes. Um, the last box left to tick is for the guys to apply themselves, you know on the middle
04:15So hopefully with one game left against new zealand
04:18The guys have experienced the pressure they've experienced the world cup now three games already in hopefully in the fourth game
04:23Uh, we can see the best of uganda
04:26Yeah, so you said you have experience to work up now visiting these various countries in the caribbean
04:32How has that experience been like from the cultural aspect and actually being able to be immersed in the society like in trinidad and tobago?
04:41Yeah, so look, uh, you know the one positive thing with our squad is that the guys, you know
04:45Are out and about they ask a lot of questions
04:47Um, you know from a coaching perspective
04:49You'd like to see the guys focus a lot more on their games
04:51But what is good to see is that for example when we played west indies our guys are out there asking questions
04:56Um, you know speaking to you know, andre russells and guys, you know trying to get you know
05:00some feedback so
05:01in terms of what we've learned as a squad what the players are taking home that definitely
05:06You know made the most of it
05:08You know, it's a different type of cricket because you're traveling quite a lot
05:11You're practicing late at night. You're getting up early in the morning. You're on airplanes. There's police escorts everywhere
05:16So so, you know, it's a completely new experience for these guys
05:19Um, and you know, I said it before the tournament we you know on the first day compared to the last day of the tournament
05:25We're definitely a much better squad moving forward and hopefully we can take all these experiences back home and teach our youngsters as well
05:31Yeah, so
05:32final question is
05:34What could what can you say are the takeaways that you could take away from this tournament that could improve uganda cricket going forward?
05:42Look, so the you know, the big thing that we keep touching on is uh professionalism
05:47You know these guys we play in associate cricket associate world
05:50You know what, you know what our players have now seen is you know, what are the best teams and what are the standards?
05:57Um, you know, if you look at playing against the west indies, you know how strong you know
06:00How hard they came at us, you know how fit their team is, you know, um, how disciplined there are, you know
06:06Where they're bowling they're batting they're fielding. So so our guys have been able to see that firsthand now
06:11You know when you watch it on tv the whole time you don't get the whole picture
06:14Um, you know, so definitely, you know, it's been an eye-opener for our guys. I think there's a little bit of shock
06:20Um, but you know, they know what the standard is now
06:21so when we tell them in net sessions or training sessions or
06:24Um, you know when we look at fitness, you know, and and all that kind of stuff
06:28You know, I think they'll get a better idea of what their coaching and technical team is looking after now
06:33So so so moving forward, um, our guys know what is the standard the world class standard?
06:38And and and obviously we're going to aspire to try and and get there
06:42Okay. Thank you. I want from the journalists back at home. They say comparing
06:49the other associate nations that are here the nine associate nations
06:53And the way they've been playing against the full members from namibia to png
06:58to oman
07:00Do you feel your team uganda is in a good place?
07:04Well, look, um, if you look at all the associate teams, I think I think we've all struggled a little bit with the conditions
07:10Um, you know and and that's probably the difference between your top ranked teams and your associate teams is how fast they're able to adjust
07:18You know to the local conditions. I mean we've just come from a training session this morning
07:22And I mean our our batting units are hitting the ball better than they did three weeks ago
07:27So it just shows it's taken us a bit of time, you know to adjust to the conditions
07:31And and you can see it with all the associates. I mean, for example oman has just been bowled out for 47
07:36So so the scores have been quite low and I think the associates have just struggled to adjust to the conditions a little bit
07:41So look i'm proud of our boys. I'm proud of
07:44You know the way they've held themselves. I'm proud of the way they trained
07:48like I just said, hopefully we can
07:50Finish off this last game, you know with a better batting performance
07:54I
07:56Thank you for attending our press conference, uh, it was very sincere and futuristic craig williams for you. Thank you
08:04Thank you
