00:00 In a tragic incident, a woman has been discovered dead inside the belly of a snake after it
00:24 swallowed her whole in central Indonesia, as reported by a local official on Saturday.
00:30 The victim, identified as 45-year-old Farida, was found by her husband and residents of
00:36 Kalimpang village in south Sulawesi province on Friday.
00:41 Farida had gone missing the previous night, prompting a search effort by the villagers.
00:46 The reticulated python, measuring approximately 5 metres, that is 16 feet in length, was found
00:52 with the woman inside.
00:54 According to village head Suwadhi Rosi, Farida's husband became suspicious after finding her
00:59 belongings, leading to the discovery of the snake with a visibly enlarged belly.
01:06 The villagers made the decision to cut open the python's stomach, revealing Farida's fully
01:12 clothed body inside.
01:14 While such incidents are considered extremely rare, several similar occurrences have been
01:19 reported in Indonesia in recent years.
01:22 Last year, an 8-metre python was killed by residents in south-east Sulawesi's Tinanjia
01:28 district after it was found strangling and consuming a farmer.
01:32 In 2018, a woman was found dead inside a 7-metre python in south-east Sulawesi's Munah town.
01:40 And in another instance, a farmer in west Sulawesi was discovered eaten alive by a 4-metre
01:46 python.
01:47 This happened in 2017 when a farmer in west Sulawesi went missing before being found eaten
01:52 alive by the 4-metre python at a palm oil plantation.
01:56 A six-minute video obtained by CBS News showed villagers slicing open the python's carcass
02:02 to reveal the legs and torso of the dead victim, named Agbar.
02:06 Villagers said the victim was likely ambushed from behind.
02:09 Reticulated pythons, known for their ability to swallow prey whole after constricting them
02:13 to death, are widespread in Indonesia and other parts of south-east Asia.
02:18 While reports of humans being killed by pythons are rare, encounters with these giant snakes
02:24 can pose a significant danger to human populations.
02:28 The reticulated python is recognised as the longest snake species globally, with specimens
02:34 reaching lengths of over 20 feet.
02:37 The largest specimen ever recorded, measuring nearly 33 feet in length, was discovered in
02:43 the wild in 1912.
