00:00The Philippines is in demand after winning the bronze in the 2024 ABC Challenge Cup,
00:09the first podium finish of the country in the league after more than six decades.
00:15They are next in line for an exhibition game in South Korea.
00:19But before that, they talked to GMA Integrated News.
00:24J.P. Soriano was there.
00:27Strength,
00:30wisdom,
00:32and talent.
00:34They are the biggest asset of the Philippine Women's National Volleyball Team,
00:40the Alas-Pilipinas.
00:42Some say that they made history because after 63 years,
00:48the Philippines made it to the podium finish when they won the bronze after the 2024 ABC Challenge Cup.
00:56The team captain and best setter of the tournament, Gia De Guzman,
01:00seems to still be in the cloud nine.
01:03We were really just taking it one point at a time, one set at a time.
01:06When we scored that last point, it just synced and we were like,
01:10Oh my gosh, we got the medal.
01:12Angel Canino, who won the Best Opposite Spiker Award at ABC,
01:17was the first to think of the name for the country when they played.
01:22As in, in my mind, I was like, Wow, I'm part of this team that had a historic win in the Philippines.
01:30And that moment, I was really proud as a Filipino.
01:36The Alas-Pilipinas Women's Team is made up of the best and multi-awarded volleyball players in the country.
01:44Even though they all met each other before,
01:46it was their first time being on the same team and playing for the same goal for the country.
01:53We really made it a point that every game, every point, if we need to adjust,
01:58everyone is vocal enough to say it and no one is shy.
02:02The Alas-Pilipinas, who were the challengers in the beginning,
02:05admitted that they suddenly became a team,
02:08especially when they faced other talented countries in volleyball.
02:12Honestly, I'm doubting myself if I can be a part of the International Indoor.
02:19Because in my height, it's really nice to feel that I'm part of it, that we're part of it.
02:27But it wasn't a barrier, because I witnessed their training.
02:32Their boost of strength and determination to prepare for their next games.
02:39In the game itself, they were able to perform their dance,
02:42which is called, Masayang Samahan ng Kopunan.
02:46In the middle of the training, I also witnessed that some of them were even doing dance moves.
02:52We also tried how close our Alas were.
02:56Ate Sissy is really the one to be praised, as in, she's so cool.
03:00She really uplifted us, our spirit.
03:03She's very talkative and cool in general.
03:07Ate Sissy always invites me to come back there, because the salmon there is delicious.
03:12I think Ate Sissy too.
03:13Oh, okay.
03:18Because it's a buffet.
03:20We only have a buffet once in a while.
03:23That's why the food is delicious.
03:26I'm really a protein person.
03:30Sissy.
03:31Charma.
03:32Really?
03:33Yeah, you can see her. She has the face of a model.
03:37Oh, me?
03:38Model, model.
03:39That's not true.
03:41After making history in the ABC Challenger Cup,
03:44Alas Pilipinas Women's Volleyball Team was determined to win the FIVB Challenger Cup,
03:50a qualifier in the Volleyball Nations League in July,
03:53and in the next days, Alas Pilipinas will compete again in South Korea
03:58for a friendly match with a local team there.
04:01The target is always the same, get better all the time.
04:04I think I have to keep on pushing and try to bring more players to join us,
04:12and then I think you have to expect for the best.
04:14Right.
04:15Better things are coming.
