Companies who need a long-term worker but don't want to use a staffing agency or want to use one for part of the hiring process can choose to hire directly. The organization posting the job opening will usually post the job description on a well-known job board, screen and sort through the applications it receives, and interview potential candidates until it finds the ideal fit. In certain instances, they might still collaborate with a direct hire agency during some of the hiring process.

Many businesses employ direct hiring to identify a small number of highly qualified, long-term workers, but many also have probationary or temp-to-hire periods.
