00:03 In 2011, NASA's space shuttle Endeavour touched down safely for the final time at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida
00:10 after spending 299 days in space throughout the course of its 25 flights.
00:15 Endeavour was originally built as a replacement for the shuttle Challenger,
00:18 which was lost in the 1986 accident that also killed its seven astronaut crew.
00:23 Congress authorized the construction of Endeavour in 1987, and the orbiter first blasted off in 1992.
00:29 Its final launch occurred May 16, 2011, sending a six-member crew into orbit on NASA's STS-134 mission.
00:37 Their mission delivered the Express Logistics Carrier 3
00:40 and the $1.1 billion Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer to the International Space Station, or ISS.
00:46 Endeavour had many successful missions during its run,
00:49 one of the most famous being the start of the construction on the ISS.
00:52 The 1998 mission delivered the U.S. Unity Node,
00:55 which is the passageway that connects the working and living modules, and joined it to the Russian Zarya module, already in orbit.
01:01 This connection led to it becoming an international space station.
01:04 Currently, Endeavour sits in the California Science Center in Los Angeles as a year-round exhibit.
