00:00The late registration of birth certificate is a hot topic now. The process is being studied to avoid abuse.

00:10In the Senate's investigation on the identity of Bambang Tarlac Mayor Alice Ko,

00:19the late registration of her certificate of live birth was stopped.

00:24She is already 19 years old when she registered her pregnancy.

00:29The Philippine Statistics Authority is asking the Senators to stop the process and to verify it.

00:36If the birth certificate came from a liar, they can get a passport and they can say that they are Filipinos.

00:45That's right, Senators.

00:47According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the birth certificate is being processed at the level of the Civil Registrar

00:54and they have no participation in this.

00:56However, according to some Senators, it is possible that there are syndicates that are involved in this.

01:03The PSA is already studying how to stop the process so that it will not be abused.

01:09They are submitting only documentation.

01:14That's why due diligence on the part of the Civil Registrar to conduct validation on the supporting documents

01:25and the PSA will issue supplemental guidelines on delayed registration.

01:30According to the PSA, in 2022, almost 1.4 million Filipinos registered their pregnancy in the country.

01:39While almost 128,000 Filipinos did not register their 30-day pregnancy.

01:46In total, the PSA said, there are 3.7 million Filipinos without a birth certificate.

01:53The reason why a person's pregnancy is not registered immediately is also the reason.
