00:08 Look, you want to save the world? You're the great humanitarian? Take the gun.
00:12 [rock music]
00:21 I woke up one morning wondering what's wrong with me. I'm in my mid-40s, I have kids, I have a job,
00:28 but I refuse to stop skateboarding and I refuse to stop going to live punk shows.
00:33 None of my old friends do. They have all but one grown-up and pronounced the scene dead.
00:38 The only friend that I know of from the day 77 or 80 or 82 is an ex-hippie. He's now 60.
00:45 He doesn't skate, but he never turns down an offer to go to a show.
00:48 Whether it's some dingy warehouse or a club set in a mini-mall, he's game.
00:53 I don't play an instrument, so I thought I'd ask the hippie this question,
00:56 and I asked him, "What's wrong with us?" And he said, "Well, we aren't dead yet."
01:00 [rock music]
01:12 So this is really an exploration and sharing with my favorite local bands.
01:17 I decided to ask them a bunch of questions that might help me come up with an answer.
01:23 [rock music]
01:41 This motherfucker moved from Brooklyn to start an LA hardcore band when LA hardcore was not
01:48 happening in LA at all in 2001. I joined in summer of 2002 when we were called The Problem,

02:57 Thirty years.
02:58 On and off.
03:01 Yeah, there's been some lapses, but...
03:02 And there's Axl.
03:04 I was born in Florida, that's it.
03:06 So was I, so...
03:07 And we had decided we'd start a band called The Skulls, so we did, and that was in '77.
03:11 Very short-lived scene at the mask, and here we are now in 2009, almost 2010.
03:17 And in 2007 I put together a band, The Billy Bones, with my good friend here, Mr. Alex Gomez.
03:24 I played with several different bands, US Bombs, The Authority, The Livingstons.
03:28 My name is Drew Milford, and I'm playing with Billy Bones.

03:54 The Gears!
03:55 The first time I saw The Gears was at the Santa Monica Civic.
04:01 They played with X and The Blasters.
04:03 It was 1981.
04:04 They bent one of my fingers.
