00:00 Tunapuna Piako Regional Cooperation Chairman Josiah Austin says the goal of
00:06 Operation Eagle Eye is to have eyes on key areas across the district.
00:11 Through the station council, our municipal police and the TTPS, there are several cameras
00:19 that are going up that are monitored by the Tunapuna Police Station and also
00:25 soon you will see our municipal police station joining in that effort. We are
00:30 now getting the screens and so forth and we will be going into several districts.
00:34 We are going to have a makoia food village very soon and we're going to
00:38 start that pilot program there and then you will find us going into the Korra
00:43 Valley. We have some plans to go into Karapu, Aripu and so forth. So we'll be
00:48 monitoring the dumping sites and the criminal activity in those areas.
00:53 Municipal police will be trained to man the command center. There's a feed to the
00:58 Tunapuna Police Station, a feed to our municipal station and another
01:05 site. So with the complement of staff we have in the municipal police staff, that
01:11 is the police officers that we have there, we will have several of them
01:15 trained in monitoring and surveillance. So it's something that was done with the
01:21 Tunapuna TTPS and now it will be done with our municipal police.
01:26 Tunapuna in particular has been rife with gang activity but the chairman says
01:31 things have settled down a bit. Based on statistics we've seen several murders in
01:38 the past but not so recent. You've seen a curve in that. There were some
01:44 robberies recently but the Tunapuna TTPS were very quick on the scene to
01:50 recover stolen vehicle and so forth. So I mean we have full confidence in the
01:56 response team and our municipal police we're just adding to that. The EGOLI
02:01 initiative is spearheaded by the Tunapuna Station Council in collaboration
02:06 with the TTPS and the business community. Renessa Cutting, TV6 News.
