00:10 That song sounds familiar, right?
00:19 Well, if you grew up in the 1980s, it should be.
00:22 As fans of the local television show No Boundaries now have a chance to see
00:27 the older series once again.
00:29 This time on the big screen, but with a modern twist.
00:33 Director and actor of No Boundaries Marvin Ishmael says, the average man on
00:37 the street will appreciate the film as the characters in the new movie are relatable.
00:42 He says, the new generation will be as excited as the last generation was
00:48 about the series.
00:49 >> What we've done is a sort of a modern slant on that.
00:54 So we have new characters with the same stories in terms of aspirations,
01:00 goals, objectives, needing things in their lives.
01:03 And this film is showing us how do they get what they want.
01:08 >> Ishmael says, the writer of No Boundaries, Horace Wilson, saw the importance
01:12 to remake the hit television show as it showcases the culture of Caribbean people.
01:17 >> I think it was important for us to retell the story.
01:21 And especially if it's because it's set today.
01:24 So these characters still exist all around us.
01:27 People who have left Trinidad to try to make a life for
01:30 themselves in a foreign country, thinking that the grass is greener.
01:34 Only to acknowledge that no, these characters, they're not happy when they're away.
01:41 >> Ruby Paris, who plays Abigail,
01:43 describes her character as independent, calculated, and fierce.
01:47 And while those are some good traits, she says her character is a bit different
01:52 from her energetic self.
01:54 >> I think Abigail is probably one of my more challenging characters I've taken up
01:58 in my acting journey.
02:00 Mainly because she and I are very different in how we approach things.
02:03 So the characteristics may be similar.
02:06 I could find things within myself and within people that are very close to me to
02:09 pull on.
02:10 But when it comes to how she executes those choices,
02:13 that was a learning experience for me.
02:16 She had to rely on survival to stay grounded.
02:22 Ruby had been raised in love and raised in support systems.
02:25 And she had to turn to herself to be her own support system.
02:29 >> While Samara Lalu is embodying the role of Mrs. Pembroke,
02:32 much like Ruby's character Abigail, Samara's character is very much calculated.
02:37 She says her character uses her femininity to get what she wants in life.
02:42 >> My character, when we see her,
02:47 it's using her feminine wiles to get ahead, right?
02:54 That is not me, like personally.
02:57 She comes from a background that was not well-to-do.
03:00 She's always been in Trinidad and found her way to get to the top in some way,
03:06 right?
03:08 And now it's holding on to that when it's in jeopardy,
03:12 that she does whatever she can to really stay in that position.
03:17 Her need to just be taken care of always is the number one priority for her.
03:23 >> The original 1980 series was seen by millions of people.
03:27 The new film is scheduled to be released on May 27th, and
03:31 premieres are planned in Trinidad, Toronto, Washington DC, and in the region.
03:36 The producers also intended to enter it in multiple film festivals worldwide.
