00:00 What will happen around VAR next season?
00:10 From my point of view, I think it's a necessary part of the business side of football. I totally
00:15 understand the fan engagement side, it's tricky. But it's such a big business now, you need
00:20 as many of these details to be correct as possible. The use of it is obviously in question
00:25 and I understand that. The offside for me is a given, I can't really work out this idea
00:30 of tolerance. At the end of the day, you're offside, you're offside. That's what it's
00:33 there for. If you're offside by a toe, you're still offside. I'd like to know if they do
00:37 that in the 100m sprint. No, sorry, we'll give it to the second one just even though
00:40 they didn't quite win it. So that one's clear for me. That's the good side of VAR, personally.
00:47 The challenge is trying to bring it to a much smoother operation. There has been some mistakes
00:53 made, they've got to be eradicated of course. But I still think that, like I say, I'll go
00:57 back to the beginning, the business side of football is so powerful and it's so apparent
01:04 that it's vital to some clubs, including ours this season, that therefore you want them
01:09 decisions to be correct. But in balance to that, as I said, the fan engagement side and
01:13 the fan side of it, then that's a trickier situation. I don't agree, I must say, this
01:19 thing that's growing with power, this idea of Mike and Refs, I think they're under enough
01:23 scrutiny. I don't know why you'd do that. But it seems to be the next step. That's what
01:27 I read in the papers.
01:28 Is that like a true defender?
01:30 No, I just think, why add even more scrutiny to them? They've obviously had a tough season,
01:35 that's been well documented, why add more? Give them less, take the pressure off them,
01:39 allow them to have some form of professional enjoyment of doing their jobs. It's very tough
01:44 being a referee and a linesperson, so therefore for me it's like taking it off them. Don't
01:49 add more on. Anyway, look, that's my personal opinion. I think give them less and let them
01:55 focus on just getting on with refereeing and try and enjoy the professional side of it,
01:59 because it's not easy for referees or for linespersons, as I said.
