00:00 The Chargers plan to enter the 2020 season with Tyrod Taylor as their quarterback, but
00:06 coach Anthony Lynn acknowledged Wednesday that Colin Kaepernick is on the team's radar.
00:12 Joining me now from Chargers Report is Jason Hirshhorn.
00:16 Jason, Kaepernick has been out of the league since kneeling back in 2016.
00:21 NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said this week that he supports Kaepernick and encourages
00:26 a team to sign the former San Francisco's 49er.
00:30 Is there a chance though that Kaepernick will be added to the Chargers roster?
00:36 That's what Anthony Lynn was discussing earlier today that Colin Kaepernick is on their workout
00:41 list and he thinks that Colin Kaepernick should be on every team's workout list.
00:45 He's a quarterback with extensive starting experience, obviously led the 49ers to back-to-back
00:49 NFC title games, to a Super Bowl.
00:52 This is a very accomplished player.
00:54 Obviously more than that comes into the calculation with Colin Kaepernick, but for a team like
00:57 the Chargers who want to run the type of offense that Kaepernick did run with the 49ers, one
01:02 that he was very successful in from 2011 to 2014, it makes a lot of sense.
01:06 So it's not something that the Chargers are openly doing now.
01:10 Anthony Lynn said that they were not planning to have a workout at this time, but if something
01:13 were to happen to Tyrod Taylor, to Justin Herbert, to Easton Stick, they would consider
01:18 bringing in Colin Kaepernick for a workout and then potentially bringing him onto the
01:20 roster.
01:21 There's over 125 QB roster spots currently, but not one team has really showed interest
01:27 in Kaepernick.
01:28 Obviously he does have some controversy surrounding him.
01:32 Is that something that the Chargers are concerned about?
01:36 It doesn't really seem like the Chargers care all that much.
01:39 Anthony Lynn, for example, has talked to his players and to the media about the protests
01:43 that are going on in Southern California and around the nation.
01:46 Anthony Lynn actually participated in one of those protests, the one in Huntington Beach.
01:50 So this is not a subject matter that concerns the Chargers.
01:53 They very much believe that it's proper to have those kinds of conversations in a locker
01:57 room.
01:58 They feel like they have the right culture to deal with those conversations and they
02:00 feel like someone like Colin Kaepernick could fit right in.
02:03 Couldn't agree more.
02:04 Jason, thanks so much for your insight on this.
02:05 Really appreciate it.
