00:00The 15-year-old boy accused of murdering 15-year-old Alfie Lewis in Horsforth last year is on trial

00:08at Leeds Crown Court.

00:09Alfie Lewis was attacked just before 3pm on Tuesday 7th November last year at the junction

00:15of Church Lane and Church Road, between Horsforth School and St Margaret's Primary School.

00:21The 15-year-old accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, accepts having the 13 centimetre

00:26long knife and killing Alfie, but denies murdering him, claiming it was self-defence.

00:32A bench on Broadgate Lane, close to where Alfie lived, was covered in floral tributes

00:37to the teenager and became a focal point where his friends and family gathered to remember

00:41him.

00:42Alfie was a former pupil of Horsforth School and following the incident, her teacher Paul

00:46Bell said the school was overwhelmed by the kindness and support offered following the

00:51tragic loss.

00:52The trial is expected to last between two to three weeks.
