00:00These knocks keep coming, it's Everton Football Club, it's been three years of knocks, three years of negativities it seems to me and there's certainly been lots of it around and we've brought most of that on.
00:08Myself as manager, I played my part in it more recently as well, so there's no brushing it away.
00:14But the club really has allowed itself to be too open to too many.
00:17If you think about the bottom half of the Premier League, it doesn't really talk so much about other people having bad runs or anything.
00:23They all talk about Everton because we've made it an easy story, we've got to change the story.
00:27I've been trying to, they told me when I got here to tell the truth, that's all they wanted the fans.
00:32I told them the truth at the end of last season, I wasn't spraying champagne around, I said look there is miles to go, absolutely miles to go to correct this situation.
00:39This season has proved that.
00:41You alter it back in a different way and you go well has there been progress, 35 points, yes, with six to go, it's out the window.
00:47I've cleared my mind of it and I think everyone should because whether it's right or wrong and all the rest of it, the facts are the facts and the table says what it says.
00:55So now we've still got lots of work to do.
00:57So with that then, the situation, I think some fans feel the wider club is in limbo at the minute.
01:03Don't know what's happening with the takeover, don't know what's happening with an appeal.
01:06How do you then with the players, if you can park that, how do you get the players to park all that?
01:12It's not easy because the noise around here is so intense.
01:15Rightly so, I've got used to it, big badge, big club, that's what comes.
01:21So growing and handling that expectation, myself, the staff, the players, some have been here longer obviously and understand it better.
01:27Seamus and Andres has been in and out and things like that.
01:31So there's a handful of players that understand it differently but that's part of the club, that's part of what it is.
01:36It's been a negative story for three seasons now.
01:39We're the only ones that can correct it along with the help of others but we've got to start the process.
01:43We've had spells of nearly starting that, we've had spells when it didn't quite go to plan of course
01:48and this has been a really tough spell, I just added more fuel to it by Monday.
01:52It just adds more fuel to the Everton story, we've been trying to correct it.
01:56To give you a bigger picture view, I didn't walk in here and it's just like a building plot where it's perfect
02:02and you go right, put the foundations in, we'll build it, it'll be amazing.
02:05I walked in and that wall falls down and as I'm repairing that one, that wall falls down
02:09and then when I repaired that one, that one falls down and something else turns up.
02:14So it's a constant work in progress, hence why I said last summer, this ain't going to be a walk in the park.
02:19We've just taken one step but there's lots more steps and there still is way, way, way more to go
02:25before Everton gets back to being the Everton that everyone thinks it is.
02:28But there's a lot of hard work to be done but it needs to be done quickly, of course.
