Eric Braeden talks about retirement in latest interview
Transcript
00:00 With Eric Braden getting diagnosed with cancer last year, fans are getting worried that maybe
00:04 it was time for his retirement. After a lot of rumors going around, Braden, himself, finally
00:10 opened up about his retirement plans. So stick around if you want to know all about it.
00:19 2023 was a rough year for our favorite Young and the Restless star, Eric Braden. From going
00:24 through a couple health issues only to reveal that it was bladder cancer, to totally conquering
00:29 it and becoming cancer-free. You can say, Braden and his alter ego on screen share the
00:33 same fighter spirit and nothing can bring them down.
00:36 Braden's journey with YNR started all the way back when he decided to join the show
00:40 as the iconic Victor Newman in January of 1980. So you know what it means, right? It's
00:46 been 44 years since he started playing as Victor. This is his 44th year, which means
00:51 he isn't as young as he used to be. I mean, just by age though, because under there, he
00:55 is still the same as we first saw him. Braden is going to turn 83 years old soon on April
01:00 3rd. And you know what people say? Once you cross 80, actors usually decide to retire.
01:07 So even the fans thought maybe it was time, especially with his health issues last year.
01:11 But it looks like that isn't the case. In August 2023, in an interview with Fox News,
01:16 Braden, with nearly six decades of success in over a hundred TV shows and various films
01:20 since 1961, made it clear that retirement was never on his radar. "The more profound
01:25 answer is that I enjoy doing what I'm doing, I really do. I still feel very good about
01:30 it," he said. The feeling of satisfaction after doing a scene is what has him going
01:35 and it's something he still loves till date. Well, despite an official statement on a national
01:39 channel, people were still talking about his retirement non-stop. So recently, Braden decided
01:44 to put an end to it by himself, for once and for all. Braden took to Facebook, sharing
01:49 a video from his backyard in Los Angeles, to reassure his followers that he has no intentions
01:54 of retiring from his role on Y&R. Addressing the recurring rumors of his departure from
01:58 the show, Braden dismissed them as mere clickbait, showing his commitment to continuing his acting
02:03 career in Y&R. He said, "They serve as clickbait where someone announces I'm leaving. I'm not,
02:08 I don't ever intend to retire, ever. To be frank with you, what the hell would I do?
02:14 Start a new profession? Hardly." Since he is turning 83 next month, he is super proud
02:19 of it and does not want to change his profession even though he could if he wanted to. "I'm
02:23 very grateful to have entertained millions of people. I don't want to become Moblin,
02:27 but that means a hell of a lot to me," he said. Plus, with the recent Newman Family
02:31 storyline of Jordan and Claire coming up, he also gave props to the show's writers,
02:35 led by Josh Griffith, for their hard work. And he couldn't miss out on giving a little
02:40 appreciation for his wonderful co-stars. He says, "The actors and soaps work harder than
02:45 in any other medium, harder than in theatre, film, night time. I have enormous respect
02:49 for my fellow actors because we have to learn an inordinate amount of dialogue sometimes.
02:54 Film actors have weeks or days to prepare. How'd you like an hour? We shoot an average
02:59 of 100 pages a day." Brayden gave a shout-out to Melody Thomas-Scott and that boy who plays
03:04 my son, Adam. Mark Grossman handles it like a champ. Along with them, he also mentioned
03:10 Peter Bergman and Amelia Heinle, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to work
03:14 alongside them. Lastly, he said, "We only exist because of ratings, because a lot of
03:19 you tune in. I want to say, 'Thank you!'" So as long as Y&R continues, you can best
03:24 believe that Eric Brayden is going to be here till the end.
