00:00We are amid a historic presidential election season not only because we are to have a rematch
00:05between Joe Biden and Donald Trump but also because the former president is now sitting
00:10for his first criminal trial in Manhattan just six months before the November election.
00:15Donald Trump is the first president in the history of the United States to go to court
00:19for criminal charges and Trump has been charged with 88 across four cases. The first he is being
00:25tried for is related to hush money payments he made to Stormy Daniels just weeks before
00:29the 2016 presidential election. He is accused of falsifying records and having his then lawyer
00:34and fixer Michael Cohen pay Daniels $130,000 which Trump then covered up. Here's what some
00:41New Yorkers had to say during the former president's first day in court when asked
00:45about his eligibility to run for president. No I don't think he should be allowed to run
00:50that's crazy. As someone that is running for president uh if the fact that he's on trial
00:55that shouldn't be allowed so I disagree completely with him being able to run as
01:00president while being investigated for several civil cases and criminal cases. Those sentiments
01:06seem to be shared by many across the country as well. A recent Reuters Ipsos poll found that a
01:11quarter of Republicans and half of independents surveyed said they wouldn't vote for Trump if he
01:15was found guilty and convicted of a felony.
